*Obsession is an obssesion really. EXO is amazing!*

What you saw in the "Obsession" MV was that EXO's doppelgangers were actually their alter ego clones and they were using their superpowers, such as Chanyeol with his fire power, Sehun uses his wind power to deflect the arrows, Baekhyun uses his power of light as a saber in the fencing battle, and Suho (the one with red hair) controls water in the room with all the pictures of water, etc. to fight their other selves. You see the planet on fire in the end of the MV because it's supposed to show how the world is coming to an end as EXO (the good guys in all black) and X-EXO (the evil ones in the colorful outfits with crazy hair and makeup) battle for control, etc. (Each of the members are playing 2 different characters -- there are only 6 people in this MV.) X-EXO has been created by the evil Red Force and EXO and X-EXO are fighting each other. EXO are trying to prevent X-EXO from taking over and corrupting humanity and X-EXO are trying to stop EXO from finding the Tree of Life and putting the two halves back together and restoring peace, etc. To truly understand EXO you need to be aware that EXO debuted in 2012. "Mama" is EXO's debut song and MV and it is how EXO was introduced to the world and it explains the group's concept -- and since then, everything SM does branches off from that storyline. From day one, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers. Now you also need to know that In the beginning there was 12 members and they were split up into 2 groups EXO-K and EXO-M. EXO-K sang and performed their songs in Korean and EXO-M sang and performed those same songs in Mandarin Chinese. EXO-K had 6 Korean members and EXO-M had 4 Chinese members and 2 Korean members. So to really understand their full origin story you have to watch both the K and the M version of "Mama", because the EXO-K version focuses on the K members and their powers and the EXO-M version focuses on the M members and their powers. However, since then, 3 of the 4 Chinese members have left the group (short answer to focus on their solo work back in China) but there is still one Chinese member left, Lay. (Any performances or MVs you watch that took place prior to May 2014 you will see all 12 members.) However, now -- because they no longer have enough Chinese members -- they no longer do separate promotions, but they still produce almost all of their MVs and main songs in both Korean and Mandarin they just now promote all as one big group EXO with 9 members. However, in the "Obsession" MV there are only 6 members -- Suho, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, Kai and Sehun -- because 2 of the members -- D.O. and Xiumin -- are on hiatus during this comeback as they serve in the military; and due to the political issues between the Korean and Chinese government, Lay -- their Chinese member -- was unable to participate in activities with the group. So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. However, the introduction of "Obsession's" part of the story really threw all of our theories for a loop and it has made us question everything we have ever thought was happening in EXO's storyline. The MV starts out with the red and blue light because it's supposed to represent how EXO are currently battling with X-EXO and the Red Force for control. In EXO's MVs when you see red light or anything that is red, this represents the Red Force, and when you see blue light or anything that is blue, this is thought to represent EXO. Therefore, when you see red and blue in one scene or purple -- red and blue mixed together make purple -- this is showing how the line between the two sides is being blurred and they are fighting each other, etc. Since "Obsession" some think maybe EXO has been trapped somewhere from the very beginning and it has been X-EXO that we have been following all along. But I think it's still even more complex than that. I think at times we have been watching EXO and at times we have been watching X-EXO -- with the release of "Obsession" we have only just discovered that the story hasn't necessarily been showing EXO the whole time. With the new information provided to us through "Obsession," it also makes me question how Lay fits within the X-EXO/EXO storyline. Maybe he is one of the members who has been able to break free or avoid the Red Forces' control. In Lay's solo MV for "Sheep," the Allen Walker relift version, we see everything burning outside as if an apocalypse is happening. Maybe "Sheep" is showing us the planet burning from Lay's viewpoint, like we see the world burning at the end of the "Obsession" MV. Also, I believe that the storyline in "Obsession" is connected to SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV storyline. If you pay attention to what Baekhyun and Kai were wearing in "Obsession," those outfits are very similar to the black outfits that Baekhyun and Kai are wearing in the "Jopping" MV. Kai is even wearing the same backpack parachute in both MVs. Which seems to be SM Entertainment's way of making sure we see the connection between those MVs. So, it is thought that, as part of SuperM's storyline, Baekhyun and Kai have gathered the best of the best of SM's groups -- Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT and Ten and Lucas from WayV -- to help them battle the Red Force, and maybe, eventually, take down X-EXO. Just like the Marvel Avengers come together as individual superheroes with their own storylines to create the Avengers and to fight evil, it is thought that SuperM is coming together to create the ultimate supergroup to help EXO fight the evil and corruption inflicted on humanity by the Red Force. Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order, so we as EXO-L (EXO fans) have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of all of their teasers, MVs, song lyrics, albums, concert VCRs, choreography and even live performances and piece it all together to understand the story behind it all. And not only are EXO's and SuperM's MVs and storylines connected, but pretty much all of SM's groups have storylines and concepts that connect together, which is designed to become part of one giant graphic novel or movie in the SM Culture Universe. To help you pinpoint the powers being used in EXO's MVs and live performances, here is a list of the members and what their special power is. EXO-K 💦 Suho (Kim JunMyeon) is the leader of the group and he is a lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control water (Fun fact: Suho in Korean means guardian, as in the guardian of EXO. That's why as the leader of EXO, his stage name is Suho.) 💡Baekhyun is a main vocalist and his superpower is the ability to control light 🔥Chanyeol is the main rapper and lead vocalist -- his power is the ability to control fire and his spirit animal is the phoenix. 🌏D.O. (Do KyungSoo) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control earth (dirt) which gives him strength/force ☄Kai (Kim JongIn) is a main dancer, lead vocalist and sub-rapper and his power is teleportation (Kai means opening as in a door or gateway, so his stage name is meant to symbolize his role in the group.) 🌪Sehun is the youngest member of the group and he is a lead rapper, lead dancer and a vocalist -- his power is the ability to control wind EXO-M ❄Xiumin (Kim MinSeok) is the oldest member of the group and he is a lead vocalist and lead rapper and his power is the ability to control snow/ice (frost) 🦄 Lay (Zhang Yixing) is the Chinese member of the group, he is a main dancer, lead vocalist and rapper -- his power is the ability to heal anything. 🌩 Chen (Kim JongDae) is a main vocalist and his power is the ability to control thunder/lightning/electricity (As you can see, Xiumin and Chen were given stage names that sounded more Chinese so they would fit in better in EXO-M because they are the Korean members of the Chinese group) The Chinese members who are no longer part of the group, but are still an important part of EXO's storyline: 🐉 Kris was the leader of EXO-M he was a main rapper and vocalist -- his power was the ability to fly and his spirit animal was a dragon (Kris left the group in April 2014.) 💭 Luhan was a main vocalist and his power was telekinesis (The ability to control things with his mind) (Luhan left the group in October 2014.) ⏰Tao (Z.Tao) was a lead rapper and vocalist and the martial artist of the group, so he did the flips and stunts in the group's routines. Dem jointz is a killer producer, if you like this you will like a lot of the songs he produces! He has a signature "incoming" or "dem jointz" or "and now, the breakdown" tag at the beginning/middle of his songs so you'll always know if he's on it. Anyways im so glad you enjoyed EXO, I would love to see you do a deep dive into their discography if you're feeling them. EXO was a sleeper hit for me cause SKZ was my entry into kpop. I love them. I definitely support you going through choreography and dance practices! Especially Strat Kids! EXO's live "Obsession" performance is most definitely, 100% live -- it's a live recording of their performance. Not only is their dancing amazing, but they are also singing live the whole time. It may be hard to believe because their vocals are so stable while performing this intense choreography, but as an SM Entertainment artist they have been training their whole career to build endurance and stamina in order to be able to sing live and continue to sound flawless while performing in concert for 3+ hours. That is one of the reasons why SM is known as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, because they put a huge emphasis on finding and developing amazing vocalists. Even SM's rappers get intense vocal training -- on top of being impressive rappers, most of SM's rappers could fill in as main vocalists as well. When Kpop groups release a new song and album they do all different types of promotional activities to keep fans interested and to get people excited in order to drive album and merchandise sales. If you can keep people talking about the song and album and get them excited about all the promotional activities it is most likely going to make people want to buy the album or purchase the song on streaming sites, so everything a Kpop group does is designed to be a marketing tool to sell more products. Fun fact: In the behind the scenes footage we saw how the EXO members kept up the act between the EXO and X-EXO stages and when they interacted with the audience in between the performances they pretended to be EXO during the EXO stage and they were their more sinister X-EXO characters during the X-EXO version. LOL Even behind the sense they stick to their characters and storyline. :D Shindong from Super Junior -- a member of one of SM Entertainment's senior groups -- and his production company were the ones that directed this whole performance and video shoot. (Shindong and his company are also the ones that produce all of SM's @the stage videos.) And the fans weren't really "singing along." What you heard is called fan chants, which are orchestrated things that fans say during specific moments in live performances. Sometimes fan chants are designed by fandoms and they are distributed through the network of fandoms so that everyone learns them and knows what to do, and other times they are designed by the Kpop group's company and given to the fandoms to distribute and make sure everyone knows the chant. Almost every song that is a maintrack song that the group promotes with will have a specific fan chant that goes with it, and you will hear the audience doing the same thing every time they perform the song live. So not only will the audience be reciting specific lyrics during the performance, but what you also heard was during the dance break the fans were shouting each of the members names. Even the moments when the fans scream or cheer are often done at specific times and for and exact length of time as part of the fan chant. If you ever see any behind the scenes footage of Kpop groups performing at weekly music TV shows, you may even notice the film crew making sure the audience is ready to recite the fan chant because it's all part of the performance. With his solo works, he mostly sings ballads and is knowing as the "OST king" since he's done many osts for kdramas. The rapper is Chanyeol who is the main rapper in EXO and a part of the subunit EXO-SC (a subunit duo of EXO consisting of their 2 rappers). I'm really glad you liked this song, I highly recommend Tempo for you to react to next. They don't sound the same but they went crazy on that song, but honestly anything you react to from EXO will not disappoint. In Korea they're nicknamed "nation's pick" because of how loved and respected they are there for their music. I can't wait to see you react to more EXO !!!

exo was the firsr group i came across back in 2016 they were my first introduction to kpop. they trully amazing. the guy that raps the fanthom part is my bias chanyeol! the guy after that sings is chen vocal king he is married with 2 kids

It may be hard to believe that they sing live, but they actually do it with dance, and that is why they have been called the kings of vocal. One of the most important characteristics of EXO is that they are a group with great consistency between all its members in terms of vocal and performance, and they are also known for the terrible synchronization between the members. The member whose voice you liked most is Chen, who is one of the strongest Vocals in K-Pop are known for their strong voice and wide range, as they move from high to low layers with great ease. They are called the golden throat of K-Pop and the King of Ballad as well. As for Rapper Chanyeol, he is one of the idols who have tremendous capabilities. He is a musician, composer, writer, producer, distributor and vocalist as well. In the end, EXO is one of the bands. Which has been characterized by its own music for years and is one of the strongest K-Pop bands in live performance. They have the strongest line of vocals in K-Pop in addition to the dancers. @13:52 Regarding the coordinated screams from the audience - it is called a fan chant. I have noticed that some idols/idol groups, like New Jeans and aespa, make videos with a guide to the fan chant. Otherwise I have a feeling that the fans just coordinate this stuff online in forums (?) whenever a new song is released. Maybe someone who knows more can correct me if I am wrong about the latter.

You can check out their obsession live performance in EXO & X-EXO versions. Obsession's concept is about their alter egos as you noticed, they're two of each members. They're fighting themselves. EXO against their alter ego/bad persona(X-EXO).

EXO is the real deal. They don't just produce songs but they have a unique storyline that they've been sticking to since debut. Even in their solo acts. You're in for a looong and fun ride with them. I'm very proud to be their fan.. before I wasn't a kpopers I was very reluctant to listen to Korean songs except for drama osts.. I thought k.pop groups only showed dance and visuals.. but when I got to know exo through acting D.O in the drama.. I immediately fell in love with exo because of the love shot song, then i listened to a lot of their songs, and i think exo almost never failed to make me fall in love more.. not only the king of visuals, but all the members have capable voices, their kinship is very strong , with the characters of each member being equally strong so nothing really stands out from them, all of them are the main stars, not to mention their treatment of exo.L who they consider friends, in my opinion that is enough and not excessive which makes fans have limits separate not to interfere with their privacy, that makes exo.L a fandom that is very mature and wants all exo members to be happy with their choice of partner in the future.. in my heart I immediately say that exo should be the highest standard in the world of kpop, exo is a solid group and multitalent.. maybe I'm too late to become exo.L but I really love them ❤

This group has almost all genres, discography is one of the best in kpop, definitely in top 3. famous for their b-sides, won album of the year in a row till award shows kicked them out, choreographies are famous among street dancers, rapper is different from typical rappers, has no one style , like "10 rappers in 1 man" styles. In 10 different exo songs, he sounds like 10 different rappers. Major in r&b, you find a lot of kpop groups are being heavy on hip-hop, but this group and their agency heavy on r&b sounds + experimental music. Their agency is like a lab.Exo - sc subunit has a lot of hip-hop songs(check; day dreaming).

EXO got them Vocals. Chen is the one you kept talking about. His high pitch and runs helps to bring out all the other outstanding vocals of Baek, D.O., Suho and rappers, Chanyeol and Sehun. Of course Kai and Xiumin (both my biases) bring a lot to the group as well. - EXO presence is outstanding.

4 rappers ( XIUMIN ,KAI ,CHANYEOL ,SEHUN ) 5 vocalist 9 dancers .they all wrote some songs but they also got they're version of 3racha -CHEN ,CHANYEOL ,BAEKYUNG these 3 guys wrote most of the songs amoung all members ,but Lay ,Sehun ,Kai also wrote or co-wrote some songs .

Oh my god, you got the backstory! They’re fighting their inner demons. There’s two versions of each of them, and all the fighting is going on between their own versions, not between each other. At the end, the bad version reaches up from inside and snaps the good version’s neck. The bad versions are left standing. If you noticed, the live stage is shot a little oddly. That’s because it was done twice-this and the other version with them in the colored fits. Then the two were spliced together. It’s BRILLIANT!

It's been awhile since I stopped watching Teddy's reactions, but when this popped up I had to see it. I started my Kpop journey as a Stay but when I came upon EXO, the whole game changed for me. There is just no other band like EXO. That's fact. And that "unorthodox singer" Chen is basically the best thing that's happening in Kpop right now. He is the absolute king. Noone will convince me otherwise, ever.

Chanyeol, the phantom rapper is a really amazing rapper. Chen is the singer you noticed and his vocals are something else. Baekhyun started the song and along with D.O. they make up some serious powerhouse singers in K-pop. Let's not overlook Kai's crop top agenda, man restarted that fashion trend (70's were something else lol). I'd love to see you react to "The Halluci Nation - R.E.D. Ft. Yasiin Bey". Halluci Nation is a Canadian first peoples group that does electronic / hip hop mixed with reggae elements and influence of First Nations music. Yasiin Bey is Mos Def, and that name speaks for itself, a true legend.

They are confident but not overly so. They do strut even in every day life especially when together just like they can be very funny and goofy. They grew up together as trainees so they know that each of them has each other's back. Accdg to them, they are family so they know that each one of them takes the slack especially when one member forgets the words or the dance when performing. But Kai is on another level. He does have a big dose of charisma.

EXO is a top tier group. It is one of the most versatile and vocally gifted one. All members are great singers, as you will be able to see if you listen to some of their solo projects, but the vocal trinity (Baekhyn, D.O. and Chen) are out of this world in so many levels. Let me tell you that once you listen to a few more songs, you will be hooked and will want to listen to all of their discography. You would not be wrong to do so as some of their B-sides are much better than their main tracks for both the group and solo projects. If you want to verify what I am saying, listen to their pre-debut song "What is love" and debut song "Mama" to see what level of greatness they possess since in the very early days when they were super young and with little experience. Also it may help you to react to a few EXO guides/compilations as you'll listen to some song snippets and it will give you an idea how unique they are. They are worth it of your time. Enjoy the journey.
