11:34. Word to write by. Right there. "Its not so much about writing what you know, as much as it is bringing what you know, to something that you don't"
It's amazing to see the amount of thought that goes into something like that; getting the little things, that the audience doesn't even *consciously* realise they're experiencing (like the intertwined musical themes), just perfect. :)
We're new to the musical theatre network and we're currently writing a musical of our own :) Just wanted to say that this video really inspired us to push ourselves out of our comfort zone when it comes to composing. Like you, we've never actually done this before so it can seem daunting at times, but we're really getting into our stride! Thanks for inspiring us, and have a look at the songs we've written so far on our musical journey! (They're on our channel) From the Moongod team
So when I saw that this was 19 minutes I was like... should I really spent 19 minutes of my life watching this? I decided yes because I love AJ, Carlos, & Ali. So I started watching it and I look down to see how much longer & I am already half way done! This was so short! lol But so good!
this randomly popped up in my recommended last year and through this i have discovered tha los, starkid & tin can bros. aj, ali and carlos (and now some of the others i've discovered) have challenged, inspired and encouraged me by their wisdom and openness to share their experiences. these are some clever folk! (understatement of the year). i am very grateful to have found this. also, they look and sound EXACTLY the same! so crazy.
Has A.J Holmes managed to return to this project, with his current commitment as Elder Cunningham in Book of Mormon? btw, I was interested in BOM when I heard A.J was going to be in it.
You three are an incredible inspiration to me. I have some crazy ideas, but you've helped me see that even crazy ideas can be worth pursuing. The musical sounds wonderful and I hope that I can see it someday. Good luck, here and beyond!
This was helpful! I just started writing a musical (with no theatre background). Wish I had a couple people to bounce idea's off like this. Fortunately I'm only writing to hopefully see it in my local melodrama, no need to orchestrate. Just need to make some piano accompaniment (well within my talents). Such a fun art form!
cool how every few years i stumble back to this video and have an epiphany recognizing another one of these three people, first carlos with the flash, then aj from a festival i saw where he was an accompanist, then ali from ucb improv (and obviously they're all affiliated with starkid but i never got sucked into that)
When it's two am and you started writing a musical of your own with some friends through google docs and the anxiety starts kickn' in. XD. But really, this helps.
I’m just sitting here waiting for AJ to go: If I could do anything, I think I would... shrink myself, to the size of a mouse.. I’d leave the world of men behind... forever! And live amongst the mice... And I would bring technology, and Art to those uncultured swine... I would build tools for their mouse hands, out of toothpicks and marshmallows... And I would be their king.. NAY! THEIR PRINCE.. GILDEROY THE MOUSE PRINCE Ruling from my grand castle, inches high, carved from the finest cheeses .. And there I would dwell with my three mouse-wives... and my twelve mouse concubines... oh! Heheheheheheh... Oh but the wars we’d have with the frogs .. Terrible!.. Just terrible!.. The atrocities they’ve seen... Yes!... That is my dream!..
I think it was filmed but I don’t think they released it on RU-vid like the StarKid shows were because, like they say, once it was performed it needed a lot more editing. After that I think they just ran out of time and opportunities to run the show.
