I love your beautiful voice. You are a very gifted vocalist, and I hope you continue pursuing your classical training. This was another very enjoyable reaction and analysis. This is quickly becoming one if not the favorite Dimash performance for me, and it invokes a very visceral response in me, just as "Ave Maria" did. Dimash sang "Ikanaide" for the Tokyo Jazz Festival in January of 2021 from what looks like his studio at home. According to several native Japanese speakers, Dimash's pronunciation of the lyrics is nearly flawless. One native speaker, who gave a detailed analysis, stated that he is "expressing Japanese more (better) than Japanese." Goro Matsui, who wrote the lyrics to "Ikanaide" posted on his Twitter account that he has never heard a foreigner sing in Japanese in such a beautiful way. Tamaki Kōji composed the music and performed the song in 1989. "Ikanaide" became the title song for the Chinese-Japanese TV series "Farewell, Li Xianglan," filmed that year. It is the story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a beloved Chinese-born Japanese actress and singer during World War II who hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. Following the war, when the Chinese became aware of her Japanese heritage, she was accused of being a spy and sentenced to death by firing squad for treason and collaboration with the Japanese; she had been involved in the production of Japanese propaganda films. Thanks to the intervention of influential friends, she was cleared of all charges but urged to leave China or risk being lynched. She resettled in Japan, where she would continue to enjoy a successful acting career. In the 1950s, she moved her acting career to Hollywood and Broadway under the name Shirley Yamaguchi but returned to Japan in 1959, retiring from acting. She would go on to become a TV presenter and eventually a politician. She did not return to China for nearly 20 years. In 1990, "Ikanaide" was translated into Cantonese and sung by Jacky Cheung using the same melody. Later, the song was rewritten and translated for Jacky Cheung to Mandarin under the title "Late Autumn." In 2004 the Taiwanese singer Terry Lin adapted the song into a new version titled "In Deep Autumn," with lyrics written by Daryl Yao. Dimash chose the 2004 Taiwanese version arranged by Terry Lin with Mandarin lyrics for his performance at the 2017 "I Am A Singer" competition but gave it his own interpretation and titled it "Autumn Strong." This song went on to earn Dimash the "Best Foreign Singer" award during the Golden Melody Award in Hong Kong. I've only been a DImash fan about a week after seeing him sing this most extraordinary song on the NHK World airing of the Tokyo Jazz Festival 2021. I literally dropped everything when he started singing and sat in awe with goosebumps on my skin and tears in my eyes. I know a little Japanese but even not knowing the exact meaning behind the lyrics, his amazing delivery made me an instant fan. Instant Dear haha! I've since been researching into Ikanaide's history, Koji Tamaki, etc and you shared much of what I've read and heard so far. I'm currently watching the movie Sayonara, Ri Koran on another YT channel but it's in 24 parts with rather poor English translation. The Chinese and Japanese versions have completely different lyrics. Both are based on a true story. The Chinese version is sad, says goodbye, just as the leaves fall in autumn and autumn comes ... irrevocably. The Japanese version does not want to accept the loss, is full of pain, pleads, suffers ... heartbreaking. I am totally fascinated how sensitively Dimash differentiates between the feelings of sadness and loneliness in the Chinese version and loss and pain in the Japanese version and conveys them to the listener... it tears my heart apart and the tears keep flowing. I have never heard anything like this from a singer in my entire life. That is true mastery. * The original Japanese version Ikanaide/ Don’t Go(composed 1989) is by Koji Tamaki (*1958, Japanese songwriter). The sad true story... very touching: It is about Yoshiko Yamaguchi (*1920-2014), a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. Just want to add that the first Chinese version of the song is actually title Lei Heung Lan (Cantonese romanization) which is a Cantonese movie track for a join Chinese Japanese production of a film about Yamaguchi san aka Li Xianlan. It was then later adapted as Deep Autumn for the majority Mandarin audience. I personally prefer the lyric of the mandarin version as the image of leaves dancing in the autumn wind, uncontrollably coming together and blowing apart the autumn wind. It parallel how the wind of fate has influence Yamaguchi san's life which somewhat mirror the relationship between China and Japan, sometimes closer sometimes apart and eventually fell to the ground. A lot of English translation of the lyric only emphasis on the parting sorrow and misses this part. The first Cantonese version lyrics are quite different from the Mandarin one. For starters, its first line talks about Spring wind. And the whole imagery is as if a man looks at an old photograph and try to piece together the story similar to the movie Somewhere in Time. One thing people usually don't notice is how Dimash masterfully controls the distance between the Mic and himself. While he was singing the operatic part in head voice, he stepped back a little away from the Mic, and it changed in volume, his voice is so powerful that he had to do it and it still conveyed a lot of power throughout, afterwards he closed the distance. Most people don't look at these minor details.

There's science support (at least in sports) that practicing variation of techniques actually increases your learning speed. He's certainly has seemed to go that route in his singing.
This song is the original version of the song AUTUMN STRONG which Dimash sang in Mandarin. It's about Yoshiro Yamaguchi a Japanese singer who left Japan during WW2 to live in China and she was known as the Judy Garland of China. She changed her name in China but no one knew that she was Japanese and people loved her. When WW2 ended her identity was revealed and the people who loved wanted her gone to Japan. She left to Japan never to see China again.

Such a beautiful song!! I mean... I'm not even a fan of him but all that I've heard of him from your videos, I really think I need to listen to him!! Also, Ikinaide is Japanese for Don't Go... This song is about trying to stop someone from leaving his life, which is so perfect for the way he is telling the story. I love Japan, the good and the bad! It is a country I've been close to since 2011 so if anything can make me a fan of Dimash, this can! The English words to this are actually very dramatic and beautiful. The Japanese too!!
