This Doom Patrol is obviously more inspired by their early comics corny history than the more cerebral Grant Morrison run, but it's still great to see them. I personally love this season, even if it isn't as grand scale as season 4. FYI, in case you didn't know, Mento and Rita are Gar's adopted parents in the comics. The Doom Patrol is basically his family. Mento is the guy who was an old man in the current live action show. And Cyborg was never on the Doom Patrol in the comics. Oh and also, Deathstroke is absolutely a Titans villain. He was created by and debuted in the New Teen Titans run in the 80s. It's only been recent years where comics have tried to push him as a Batman villain.

I remember in a Static Shock episode Static asked Batman where Robin was and he replied he was with the Titans and I thought they were referencing the Teen Titans cartoon.

15:10 Eric is right, Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke the Terminator, was first created as a villain for the Teen Titans. He first appeared in New Teen Titans #2, December 1980. He didn't go up against Batman until much later.

The final season already? Man, it feels like only yesterday we saw the Titan's first battles with Cinderblock and Plasmus!

Ah, yes. The Doom Patrol. I liked how they gave us some backstory on Beast Boy before he joined the Teen Titans in this episode. Can’t wait to see how you’ll like the last season of this show. 🙂

Slade was never a Batman villain. He was always a Titans and Robin villain. it is only recently he has been associated with Batman. Slade (Deathstroke the Terminator) in the comics was so Legendary, that people assumed he was a Batman villain. He also inspired the Terminator franchise and Deadpool. That just goes to show you how badass Robin is as his arch-villain is Slade and Batman's is Joker. Not saying Joker is not lit, mind you.

Originally Mento wasn't the leader of the Doom Patrol but was rather an associate to the team in the comics. He did play a huge part in Beast Boy's life as his adoptive father and the two didn't exactly like each other in the comics. I like how they kept that by portraying him in Teen Titans as his former mentor who was really strict towards Beast Boy.

My absolute favorite arc of the show, not just because of Doom Patrol appearing, but because of *Beast Boy totally being the best.*

Trivia The Titans' finding of the inanimate Robot Man is based on a scene from the comic New Teen Titans #13 (November 1981). Throughout the episode, Beast Boy refers to the Doom Patrol by their given names rather than hero names. This episode implies most of Beast Boy's personality and antics are an act to mask his sadness with the Doom Patrol. When Beast Boy plays the tuba, he plays the first few bars of the Teen Titans theme song.

Can't believe we've reached the final season. I love how in this episode we see Beast Boy's serious side and how much the Doom Patrol means to him. Glenn Shadix was also amazing as the Brain and Monsieur Mallah. Still miss him very much.

Continuity This is one of the few episodes where Beast Boy shows a serious side. This episode marks the first appearance of the Doom Patrol members: Mento, Elasti-Girl, Negative Man and Robot Man. This episode also marks the first appearance of the Season 5 main villains, The Brotherhood of Evil: The Brain and Monsieur Mallah This episode shows us the first time (chronologically) Beast Boy transformed into a Tyrannosaurus.

I believe they didn't mention Batman because Justice League was playing at the same time as Teen Titans, so they weren't allowed to cross the two shows since they were different showrunners and styles.

The Doom Patrol! The Brotherhood of Evil! It's another storyline loosely adapted from the classic 80s "New Teen Titans" comics. So cool that they did this. Also love how they recreated a classic cover/panel at 6:03 , the image of Robotman disabled and strung up.

Season 4 is probably the best, but I'll always love season 5. It's just so different from all the other seasons, with only two episodes that are completely disconnected from the main plot.

The first episode you guys watched of teen titans Beast Boy introduced himself as “ex Doom Patrol Beast Boy”

One of my first introductions to Doom Patrol. I fell in love with Doom Patrol property with the HBO show and it made retroactively seek out the comics (the recent one with Gerald Way is so good) and all the other appearances they had, especially with this one.

"It's so weird to see them so competent." And like 100 percent less vulgar. Still can't rewatch this episode without expecting Mr. Robot to yell, "THA F***!!!"

Cyborg's origin being conected to the motherbox is New52 BS and came after the Teen Titans show was finished. His OG backstory is that of a high school student getting into a car crash and his father gave him experimental prostetics. Over time Cyborg becomes more and more robot until golden Cyborg, which is another canof wurms.

Mento was the old dude on HBO max’s doom patrol season 1 episode 6. He’s the dude that makes everyone see an illusion at the facility

I was just looking up Glenn Shadix, he's that albino guy Huntress tried to kill in Justice League Unlimited. Cool to hear him again.

Goofs When the Doom Patrol were introduced in the beginning of the flashback, Negative Man's belt had no buckle. After Beast Boy answered Cyborg's question by telling him the messenger probe has found him, his chin accidentally turned into the same color as his human skin. Also, his right arm turned grey instead of black. While the locator pod was scanning Beast Boy to make sure it's him, the four Titans aren't in the kitchen behind him.

Both the Incredibles and Teen Titian Doom Patrol music were early 60's inspired so the similarity makes sense. There are certain musical phrases in The Incredibles that I swear are straight out of 1965's Thunderball.

Funny enough, due to them doing this season now, they might be more emotionally connected to Gar when they go back to Young Justice Season 4.

Welcome to Season 5, the Final Season of the Show, with the Brotherhood of Evil Arc, which is also the Beast Boy Arc.

They never name drop Batman but there are a few references and things that allude to Batman

Cultural references The Doom Patrol theme music is a homage to 1960s spy/action movies - which embodies the tone of the Doom Patrol comic book of the 1960s.

This is so vintage I love it. SEASON 5 is so cool.

As someone who has been reading a lot of Fantastic Four comics recently, the similarities between them and the Doom Patrol were quite apparent to me as well. Looking up both their debut dates and considering the massive popularity of the FF at the time, I imagine that the Doom Patrol might have been made as DC’s response to them. Not to say that any of the FF invented those power sets though. Marvel had Thin Man before Mr. Fantastic and DC had Plastic Man before him as well. And The Human Torch was almost entirely lifted in terms of name, appearance and abilities from the android Human Torch from the 40s. Perhaps they more greatly popularized those powers though. Either way, always nice to see the FF’s influence in superhero media and a bit more pulp in these stories 😊

Season 5, not as big as season 4 but still awesome. It's Beast Boy's time to step up!

Im so fucking excited for this season, seeing beast boys development was one of my favorite parts when watching

It be interesting if you guys ever did Batman the brave and the bold, the Doom Patrol also have a episode dedicated to them in the show. But... I won’t spoil anything, but let's just say the ending is actually quite sad for them.

Funfact, 5th season was never dubbed in polish, therefore almost no polish kid knew this season even exists. For us whole show ended with trigon gone

If the Teen Titans get renewed for a 6th season I had an idea for a 2 part season opener. In the season opener, the laboratory in Jump City is attacked by Legion of Doom Members- Captain Cold, Cupid, Bane, Cheetah & Zoom(I would give him a black suit similar to his Flash TV version). The Titans confront the LOD Members, Flash is the first of the JL Members to show up by attacking Zoom. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow & Black Canary appear quickly after Flash. The Titans & JL work together to fight off the LOD, but they manage to escape with equipment. At Titans Tower Robin asks Batman what the LOD want, to which Superman responds by saying Luthor is trying to make Superman clones. Green Arrow says they suspect Luthor has a hidden base near Jump City and are here to find it. Batman wants assistance from the Titans which they agree to. The JL & Titans pair up while searching near Jump City, Cyborg & Green Arrow are a pair, WW & Starfire, Superman & Raven, Black Canary & Beast Boy. Flash is by himself and then Batman & Robin are a pair, We get moments between the others before showing Batman & Robin. There’s a long silence between Batman & Robin, Batman ends it saying that Robin has done a great job leading the Titans. Robin says, of course, Bats has been keeping track, to which Bats responds to see that he’s safe. Robin says “so you can show feelings”, Batman answers “I do care about your well being & it’s great that you're happy here.” Flash radios saying he found the base, the Titans & JL enter the base & find where the LOD is. Lex claims they’re too late, he hits a button and the pods open, releasing Superboy & Amazo. After a long battle Amazo is destroyed and the LOD escapes abandoning Superboy. The Season 6 two part opener ends with Robin becoming Nightwing & Superboy joining the Main Titans team. Later in Season 6 the Main Titans team also gains Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern & Cassie Sandsmark/Wondergirl as members as well. The Villains for Season 6, I can think of, are a group called the Ultra Titans(Based on Deathstroke’s Titans) lead by Ravager(Rose Wilson), Batgirl(Cassandra Cain), Bombshell, Match, Sungirl & Catgirl(Kitrina Falcone). The Ultra Titans start to have what is a friendly rivalry with the main Titans and win over fans. But It’s revealed eventually that Slade is the actual leader using this team to gain an advantage on the main titans, also Slade did find the Brotherhood of Evil and he freed Gizmo, Mammoth, Seymour, Billy Numerous, Kid Wickit, Overload, Plasmus & Cinderblock. Kid Flash, Jinx & Titans East do help in fighting Slade & the Ultra Titans.

15:06 Sorry Rick, but you’re completely wrong. Slade/Deathstroke was ALWAYS a Teen Titans villain from his very first appearance. This misconception of being a Batman villain has only been around since the last decade, no thanks to things like Arkham Origins and Ben Affleck’s Batman solo movie that made people think he’s a Batman enemy for some stupid reason. Slade has been a Titans villain for decades, and always will be.

Is it this season in which Raven goes and does a babysitting episode? I always appreciated that episode lol

The doom patrol episodes are some of my favorite in the show.

Has anyone ever wondered that the brotherhood of evil seems very similar to the evil con carne characters? Think about it, you gotta highly intelligent brain with a large mammal sidekick, a military general and a woman in tight latex, kinda similar right? No…just me? Ok then

I would recommend you to not watch the last episode of this season. The episode before the last actually ends the story perfectly and the last one just opens new storylines that should have been continued in the cancelled season 6. It is therefore not a great experience to watch the last episode and it (at least for me) ruins the franchise a bit and I wish I had never seen the last episode.

I honestly feel season 4 and 5 should be swapped around. I mean they liteally just saved the universe from a omni-powerful demon lord. These guys feel kind of lame in comparisson.

Sadly, this is my least favorite season. I didn't care for the introduction/focus on so many new superheroes that I had no emotional connection to. I watched this show growing up because of Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Beastboy, with Tera and Slade being the only other characters I cared about. This season did nothing for me at all, but I'm glad to still watch your guys' reactions. Season 4 should have been the end as it was "The End", but that's personal taste.
