Teen Vogue Editors Tried Breathing Through a Straw to Feel What It’s Like to Have an Asthma Attack 

I used to have regular seizures and they never found a reason for it. I dont have them anymore but I did have asthma attacks until about 8 months ago and I havent had one since which is good

When I was born I was a micro preme and I was born 1 pound 15 ounces I came out dead and I had blood on my brain my lungs had also collapsed and as soon as I was born I was taken away from my mom and I am so lucky to be alive I just had my first asthma attack and I believe it was an asthma attack because I was talking to my brother and I lost the ability to breath and I just started panicking and thank god my inhaler was there or else I would have most likely died from suffocating. Just the feeling was so instantaneous and shocking that I am still shocked and it happened an hour ago and it sucks it really does as soon as I realized I couldn't breathe I panicked and threw up for no reason and I my first thought was "am I going to die right in front of my brother"? and I kind of just searched for my inhaler and my brother got my mom and I took a few puffs off the inhaler and my lungs began to open up.

Lauren x I have Asthma (Mild Asthma) and I have never gotten an Asthma Attack since I was 6, I got it in a field. Triggers are the worst.

do some swimming , it really improved my asthma , even though im going tru an asthma attack right know ,it goes and comes when you get older

I think it’s only to help simulate how you feel when you aren’t getting enough air or something

Now that I’m thinking about it that was a tad aggressive, but you breathing through the straw is what it is constantly like for me trying to breathe, it is ten times worse when I’m having a full asthma attack. Please be aware that asthma is a disability and that it is always hard, not just when we are running or having an asthma attack.

It feels normal because for us it is normal but for non asthmatic people it’s really difficult

iiiEllxrie sorry I guess I shouldn’t have made a generalization but for most people the straw thing is very difficult, especially if they have to exercise with it

The asthma machine it helped a little when it happens I was In the pool of a water slide I felt as my breath kept on leaving and the worst thing is that I love singing I want to be on Broadway but I can't if I don't learn to control my asthma I said
