this version has a very slight latin feel .... brilliant and I love it. but I have to say Rolls Royce ... has its original by a whisker IMHO. x p.s much older than you as you may guess.
You’re right Teena always had a Latin soul vibe going on in her songs it’s beautiful it’s because she was immersed in Latin, black creole etc multi culture from a young age.
My first time hearing this was in 5th grade when I heard it on New York Undercover. It was one of the first times a song actually brought me to a stop and got me to just wanting to hear the song without caring about what was happening in the show.
Just saw a rerun of that episode of New York Undercover on BET & heard that voice singing that song at the end. I said that sounds like Tina Marie. And then I ran back to the TV and it was her! Man, I forgot had bad Tina Marie was back in the day. She got pipes!! And don't get me talking about the duet she did with Rick James in Fire & Desire. OMG, I can listen to that song over & over again!
Damn this women could sing... I actually like her version more then the original.. The picture of Teena Marie was always my favorite. It was the Irons In The Fire which had her awesome song I Need Your Lovin on it.. Miss her like crazy... Teena should have been a household name.. Great talent for sure...

Teena Marie was known as the Ivory Queen of Soul and is one the first female rappers as evidenced on her song Square Biz. She wrote, performed, arranged and produced all of her own material on her 13 albums. She recorded for Motown, Epic, and Cash Money records. She began her career with Rick James, and over the years she has recorded with Smokey Robinson, Gerald Levert, Lenny Kravitz, Snoop Dogg, Howard Hewitt, Patrice Rushen, Faith Evans, and Kurupt among other artists. Lovergirl was a huge hit on the R&B and pop charts. Teena whose nickname was Lady T, is deeply integrated into black music, she is highly respected by the black community. If you mention the name Teena Marie to any black person they will know her music instantly because she is that much a part of black music and culture.
@@solja625 I felt the exact same way, was so shocked and saddened that Teena Marie had died, and my heart also broke for her precious daughter, Alia Rose. There are--and have been--so MANY fantastic, incredible singers, BUT for me, Teena Marie is at the top!! And I was planning to go to a memorial concert being held in her honor, in 2011, but developed an infection in my knee replacement in April, 2011, and had to be hospitalized for another surgery at that time. I was SO DISAPPOINTED, had really looked forward to witnessing the songs and memories, by people like Keith Sweat, and so many others. Teena Marie was a treasure, a unique gem, that cannot be replicated; but she will live on forever in her beloved music. GOD BLESS, Teena Marie🙏🏽💞
I have been a huge Tina Marie fan since the early 80s I saw her in 1983 @ the Ventura theater I and saw her @ the Gibson Universal theater with Rick James two weeks before he past they opened up the concert singing fire and desire. She was one of the best female singers of all time and if you dont agree remember she worked with rick james Bitch!!!!
Never could understand when I was younger why I named all my dolls Teena Marie. She had the best voice and yet I was too young to know who she was until my adult years, yet all my dolls' names were again Teena Marie. She will be missed and her voice never gets old.
I remember the day my brother brought her home in a pair of overalls. She had a flower in her long flowing hair and it was just magical. She went on to get a contract with Motown and my cousin is married to Terry Barry’s Son for over 34 years now and she sang Ave Maria at the Catholic Church a cappella and my goodness it just resonated it was like 1 million angels such a wonderful and beautiful person rest in perfect peace
Wow, I had no idea that Tina covered this song ! I always love this song first heard it rollerskating back in the early 1980s on the DJ would call out” we’re going to slow it down for a couple skates and couple skate only “ . And then the bright lights with them and it became a nice couple skate song. Nice memories.😊 oh and by the way, she could really built out of serious square Biz when it’s time to let’s get everybody back on the floor for all skate, all skate in the regular skating direction !!!!! 😀😀😀😀

Oh, the world is a less wonderful place without her angelic voice.. listening to her alters my conciousness and makes pure emotions bubble up from my soul..
Voice, piano, heart, soul (gone to heaven, bless her), and all poured out in music. Such a gift I could never forget nor fail to feel a love in myself and her in the same moment that has lasted over forty years. Words cannot express the gratitude she deserves from everyone who knows the value of what she gave us and how we have been humbled by her love and talent (ability) to communicate her thoughts so beautifully. Love ya, my brown sugar covered in snow. I so wish I could make your castle smile again.
My late wife and I danced to this song when we met 1984 in a back yard party in East Los Angeles ca.throughout the years we danced to it in our living room.she passed 5 years ago so I play it on her grave site my grandkids and I listen to this great song all the time thinking of her I miss her so very much.wishing on a star get down baby girl sing it for me and her
Teena Marie Lady T.(Tee) did a nice job with her rendition. Soulful and Loving for her time. Great track. Became aware of her version from listening to another artist's cover of the same song. While we know Rose Royce original composition was hands down the best. This is also well done.
I started listening to Sarah Vaughan in the late 90s it's incredible for me to listen to this and see that Teena Marie it's actually channeling Sarah Vaughan in this song I've listened to several times and I thought she was singing flat in 20 why she's singing like that an early age she is actually channeling Sarah Vaughan this woman is incredible
Thank you for this video. Tina Marie still stands in my view as one of the four or five greatest female vocalists in the history of popular music. One could argue that she was the greatest but that would be an entirely personal, totally subjective claim. Clarity, precision, accuracy, power, pitch control, breath control, technical excellence, aesthetic excellence, emotional impact: Tina Marie had it all. R.I.P., Lady T.
🌎🙏🙏🙏 Thank God I have overcome the world. I will always honor my marriage and family. I will always keep your family in prayer. Thank God I am healthy back home with my family. I will always honor my marriage and family.
I'm wishing on a star To follow where you are I'm wishing on a dream To follow what it means And I wish on all the rainbows that I see I wish on all the people who really dream And I'm wishing on tomorrow, praying it'll comes And I'm wishing on all the lovin' we've ever done I never thought I'd see A time when you would be So far away from home So far away from me Just think of all the moments that we'd spent I just can't let you go, for me you were meant And I didn't mean to hurt you, but I know That in the game of love you reap what you sow I feel it's time we should make up, baby I feel it's time for us to get back together And make the best of things, oh, baby When we're together, whether or never I feel it's time we should make up, baby I feel it's time for us to get back together And make the best of things, oh, baby When we're together, whether or never I'm wishing on a star To follow where you are I'm wishing on a dream To follow what it means And I wish on all the rainbows that I see I wish on all the people who really dream And I'm wishing on tomorrow, praying it'll comes And I'm wishing on all the lovin' we've ever done I'm wishing on a star To follow where you are I'm wishing on a star To follow where you are
