The '03 TMNT was underrated across the board. It recaptured a lot of the 80's goodness while being a bit more grown up and working with the expanded TMNT universe so much more than series before or really since. It wasn't perfect but it did give fans a lot to enjoy just like Nexus.
Yes, I agree with both of you. The series tried to be a blend of the Original comics and the 80s series. I think it did that really well. It needs more love. 😁
Actually tmnt 2003 was faithful to the source materials of the comics. And one and only the tmnt creator was heavily involved in the show. Mirage studio wanted to make what tmnt franchise actually is and only one that was respect Ed the source material of the comics after that nothing else.
I played it. It was more stealth than most TMNT games with puzzles added. Core beat em up mechanics remained and as a result this game is an underrated gem.
A truly underrated game. I have actually played this game back in the day. Thank you for making videos on games that others never talk about. Videos like these are what really makes me want to watch all your videos.
The Play-Station 2 version of this game was and still remains one of my favorite TMNT games of all time. I loved everything about it. Heck if it was available on the PS4 I would get it in a heart beat!
After that little message at the opening just wanted to comment that you're doing a great job. Your content is a great look at games I might have overlooked and cool shit like in depth looks at characters from fighting games I was curious about but never bothered to do the research. Very much one of my most enjoy channels.
Yup as others have said, Mutant Nightmare was the last 2D Konami TMNT game and it was on the Nintendo DS. The Turtles in Time Arcade unlockable on the console version uses arranged versions of the DS Mutant Nightmare music instead of the original arcade tracks.
Yeah I also suspected that TMNT 3 on the Game Boy probably inspired this game, it might not exactly be a Metroidvania, but it shares a lot of similar ideas, mechanic, themes etc.
GBA was a Godsend for me since i also craved more 2d games at that time. im also thankful for indie games... they proved 2d games on console can still be viable, so AAA publishers came bak to 2d... hopefully we get more remasters n new games, like mega man 11
Great video as always, I hope this time it gets the traction it deserves from youtube. Especially as content about these less "nostalgic" titles is so unexplored. Can't wait to see more of it!
Great video again Top Hat but just a slight correction as TMNT 3: Mutant Nightmare on the DS from Konami was 2D as well. Solid platformer beat 'em up that, once again, has each turtle having their own specific story and levels. It was also the very last TMNT game made by them.
The TMNT games have been varying in quality greatly since Nickelodeon took over. When the best game since Nick took over was a very divisive platinum created game you know you got problems. That said I'm very excited for revenge of shredder more than any game involving the TMNT in the last 20 years probably.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu I'm SUPER hyped for Shredders Revenge, especially since it's being developed by former developers of the FANTASTIC (but VERY overlooked/underplayed) GBA version of TMNT 2007 and Scott Pilgrim Vs The World. That thing is bought day freaking 1.
Man, I love this game so much growing up. 14:07, ah yes...the Ultimate Ninja. He was in the show due to him wanting a duel with the Shredder but unfortunately, Shredder was "killed" in action before he could do it so he fought Leo instead. He also happens to join forces with a red dragon named Drako and I won't spoil much for those wanting to watch this awesome piece of nostalgia for me. 15:10, armed with that Tengu Sword/Goblin Sword that he loves so much. Also, there's another game on the DS...it's called TMNT 3 Mutant Nightmare and it's also pretty good. Also...damn, the music in both games is lit! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YAesHqt3or0.html
Absolutely loved playing this game as a kid on my gba. Always loved the difficulty of Japan and New York back then and I actually couldn't beat it until years later. Gotta hand it to the music as well
The next mutation was absolutely the worst thing to ever happen to TMNT ever. So poorly written, so poorly produced people always blame the Venus character but honestly it was just literally everything about it that doomed it from the get-go. I was glad they gave it a couple years cool down and people to forget about that absolute dumpster fire. The 2003 version was not just a return to form but an absolutely fantastic much more faithful version then even the 84 turtles.
This isn’t the last 2D Konami game. TMNT3: Mutant Nightmare was the sequel to this one but it was on the NDS. It’s great but the final boss (which can only be seen by beating the game on hard) is freaking hard and I never beat it
It's actually pretty funny RU-vid tells me every video your wife posts but not all your videos and I will subscribe to you first of course either way I search out the top hat
I mean it ran I think like 5 years so maybe till 2008 or something like that. I know there was quite a gap between that show ending and the 2012 version on Nick. Still yep it's been quite a while.
Hi top hat gaming man I was just like to see you thank you for for showing these awesome games growing up in the 90s Turtles with one of my favorite games and I can appreciate this game
The gba games actually look better in art style than their console versions. All three them felt great unlike how stiff and homogenous the home console games by contrast. The first 2003 game is just a plain fun brawler/platformer with nice minigame diversions. The second (the one in the video) is a mixture of Platformer elements including even metroidvania-esque elements with the turtle elements, the stealth and the combat. The last gba TMNT title is just a nicely done 2D sidescrolling brawler.
If I may ask out of curiosity 🙂 what are your thoughts on mutant nightmare ds, I feel that one is good as well *personally of all 3 portable games, I really enjoyed the first game the most, I honestly felt like it was the most well made, I put an in depth comment about my thoughts on the mutant nightmare video*
Had the 3d games on gamecube at the time but the gba games slipped by me. If you do a TMNT movie game review in the future, make sure you play it on gamecube, ps2 or 360. Avoid the wii version 🥴😅 Just the waggle ruins it. Shaking the wii remote basically replaces A and you're just shaking to attack for 20 minutes at a time to complete a stage
I played the TMNT movie game back in the day on PS2 I believe. That was back when I was still doing a lot of renting over actually buying and I was glad I did too cuz I beat that game in just a couple days. Not a bad game but the fact you can only play one turtle at a time was too bad. (By which I mean no co-op)
Now that's quite an unconfirmed statement that nobody played it back then. It was almost as popular as the first one, especially for a poor contingent of the children, whose parents were unable to provide them with the computers. As for myself, I first played it when I was traveling around the country to my grandparents and my father bought me a disk before the journey for "road entertainment". And since I've already played the FoTFC, BFTS and the first 2003 game, It was quite intriguing to try the well-known project from another perspective and with different priority (stealth instead of fighting). Yes, the lack of weaponry was annoying, but considering the fact that in the show were a lot of moments, containing the "funny stealth mode" in a decent amount of episodes, this wasn't so unusual and out of league. In classic TMNT games - say no to secrecy as the show proposed, in 2003 - way to go!
In 2004 no one played it because the kids that grew up with the turtles were already probably boning their girlfriends and had no time for ninja turtles lol
Unfortunately pretty much anything based on TMNT after that 2005 movie game has been less than great. The best I guess one being that platinum produced mutants in Manhattan game. Not bad just much less than great.
I think the notification bell is switched off for your channel. When I click on the bell I get a pop up saying that this feature has been turned off due to content on this channel being for kids. I know it used be on, but noticed it was off after you mentioned notifications in the video.
or im subbed to so may channels that youtube only puts so many videos that even though i am subbed to your channel i hit some unknown cap of total number of videos on my subscription page that i miss your videos.
@@lordjubilus Ok, I have looked into this...I am 50% wrong, which also makes me 50% right! The game I covered was indeed the last Konami developed 2D Turtles game...they did later publish a Hudson developed game on the DS.
