In case of Sonic 2, the lady is right to say it's pixelated. Sonic games were designed with pixelated graphics to make use of artifacts on a CRT Television, so the pixelated waterfall and the bushes in Sonic 2 would look transparent instead of a mesh of pixels. In fact, Sonic 2 looks way better in a television of that time, than it does in modern consoles and monitors.
You really understand✨ ......for this very reason I have more than one CRT Television to play vintage Sega cartridges on them, the colors are incredible on it✨...I only use the flat TV for the Sony 1 and Sony 2.
The dude saying i was still trying to figure the controls lmao 🤣 Button A: jumps Button B: jumps Button C: jumps. Theres just literally one button 😅 what the actual......
Christ this makes me feel old (I'm 46). I find it hard to come to terms with the fact that many young people have never played on these consoles. The fact they missed the golden era of gaming (along with movies and music too!). I actually feel sorry for them because everything these days is legit garbage.
indeed, it was slept on and that is a sad fact. but evidently some people played it because we would get Viewtiful Joe in the future as well as Mad World which is very comic book like.
Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2, Comic Zone were easily in my top 5 favorite Genesis games. I remember one morning I played Comic Zone and got so far before school, but I didn't wanna start over, so I let the system run all day. It was nuclear hot when I got home.
Crazy that out of all games it's Comix Zone that got the highest score. It's usually to brutally hard for most people. Super underrated game though, I love it.
Comix Zone is an amazing game. I never played it on the console but I did play it on Windows. The first time I saw it, a schoolmate was playing it in IT class. I was mindblowed 🤯
All of these kids seem like fun to hang with - only that I’m 42 and that would be creepy. Couch coop was the best and it’s clear they immediately felt it too.
Me over here shouting at the screen during Comic Zone: "No! Stand on top of the crate and push against the wall. Then w/ the space created, push the crate so it falls and blows up the barrels..."
Shining Force and Shining Force II are *amazing* games, but they don’t lend themselves to this kind of format. It takes a fair amount of time to get to the first battle… plus, it really starts to click when new characters join and existing characters level-up. Hours of time would be needed to appreciate these games (for someone new to the genre). They aren’t pick-up-and-play games. But I love them! :)
3:24 - "Still kind of lost there on what controls do what" Well all the action buttons do the same thing. And start pauses the game. The dpad moves Sonic. Truly a complicated control scheme. :D
Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Rocket Knight Adventures, Outrun, Splatterhouse, Alien Soldier, Kid Chameleon, Golden Axe, Wonder Boy, Shinobi, I can keep going, I love my SEGA Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast and still own all of them
6:48 , this is misleading. They did NOT beat the level.. there was a significant part of the level left including the main boss and another sub boss. The guy they faced with the knives was only one sub boss. Source: I had this game in the 90s and literally played it to death
@7:26 The girl is not so far off.... Street Fighter was based from Final Fight which is sort of a rival to Streets of Rage back then. They both came from Capcom and were originally released for SEGA so we can't really say they're definite rivals.
FInal Fight was based on Street Fighter . and usually never competed against Street of Rage as the first one was an early game. Streets of rage was actually taken from an early idea of an arcade presentation of Street Fighter which was supposed to be a beat 'em up as the audience use to perceive it. As such thing never materialised , SoR was born
@@TizerisT. funnily enough they didn't apply the same logic while naming a science-fiction platformer that's completely unrelated to both games *Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight*
Sonic and Streets of Rage were two of the very best franchises of the 16-bit era and they will be with me forever. I was about 13 when they first released and I still feel magic even now.
In the 90s, video games thrived on simplicity and joy, where pixelated worlds fostered pure, unadulterated fun. Their uncomplicated design effortlessly connected players, nurturing a spirit of cooperative competition and healthy interaction, proving that sometimes the simplest games create the most profound connections.
Sega Genesis was my first console. There sre games on it I have always considered better than even many of today's games. My top recommendations are: Gauntlet IV (hardest game ever made!), Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Rolling Thunder 3, Sonic Spinball (best Sonic game imho), and Barkley Shut Up & Jam. Before playing a Sega Game, you should look up the game manual. Sega games came with a cool little booklet that tells you game lore, controls, tips & tricks, etc.
looking at this kids having fun and smile when playing the game remains me of younger me..thats the same face i make when i play games in my younger age..Ahh the memories~ Well done, joe..keep educate them..They must know how we all roll back then and this is how we roll back then, kids..😊 Thanks for the down of memory lane.
yesss street of rage!!! i remember me and my neighbour always mad at each other because of that friendly fire ,so we always decided to stay on top and bottom lol
Altered Beast is stupid easy to finish. I used to beat it without taking damage. There's nothing random about it and the beast attacks are the perfect directional attacks for the bosses.
I wish you would have gave them the six button controller. The original 3 button controller wasn't that good while the six button is still one of the best controllers ever made even today. Even if the game didn't utilize all 6 buttons like Street Fighter 2 the six button controller just sat so well in the hand and the D pad was amazing. It's a night and day better experience. The Sega Genesis came with the six button controller later on in its life so it came stock with both controllers at different points in time.
@@segadreamer I don't think so, or at least I can see the start button and it looks like the old 3 button. Plus the design looks like the old 3 button as well. I thought I heard them say A button? Were you a fan of the 6 button? I remember when I first got one I thought it wouldn't be that big of an improvement but I was so wrong and that design sat in my hands so well I was shocked.
Sega Genesis was such an awesome console to grow up on. Nostalgia overload here. And Sonic 3 & Knuckles is still one of the most epic games ever created.
Gunstar Heros is amazing, one of my favorites of all time. The mixing of the gun types was so good and I haven't seen alot of games do that (trackers for life lol). The only one that comes to mind is Magicka, idk. I loved all these so far except for Altered Beasts, if I recall correctly it was a downgrade port of the arcade version.
My favourite Genesis Games are Sonic 2, Shining Force 2, Shining in the darkness, Landstalker and of course Dune 2. Dune 2 was my introduction to Arrakis, way back in 1993/94.
We were a nintendo house, but my friend had a Sega and I used to play Altered Beast and Sonic all the time on it... that's all she had. You should introduce them to the Atari next 😀
Dude, comix zone was my jam in the day. It went so underappreciated back then. And I love how much they all liked the game in this video. It holds up to this day, glad to know I had good taste as a kid :)
Aww. . . No Golden Axe, Ecco The Dolphin, Battletoads, Castle Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, The Lion King, Robo Cop Vs. Terminator, Primal Rage, Any TMNT Game?! Hoping For A Part 2 Of People Playing Sega Genesis Or Any Classic Video Games For That Matter! 🤞
@@Instrulnomical Indeed, but I think the intention here was to pick specific games that defined the console's spirit. Anyway, I agree there were many other games to pick from.
As Sonic fan who grew playing Genesis it hurt a little bit to hear them say😢 “I played sonic on the DS” Sonic & Knuckles combo cartridge is still all time great gaming product.
Almost feels like the parents failed them a little I was born in 83 but had a older brother and sister so I experienced everything from the mid 60s to current pop culture so awesome also why I don't connect to with people my age as well as older
That was NOT the entire first level of Streets of Rage 2 - you had to go into that bar, beat up everyone, then go into the back alley and beat the real boss of level 1!
I'm 90's kids. The Sega Genesis was the very first gaming console that I had the pleasure of owning. I used to get so frustrated and quit playing often back in the '90s when I was trying to beat Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles (1994). I also recall the Game Genie for Sega Genesis.
I'm 90s kid from Ukraine. Sega stuff is amazing, i've handled a looot of games. But in late 90s was a playstation era... In Ukraine only rich kids had playstation, so.. i played it only at my rich friends home😂
@@sasapetroski981ahah, i remember my friend Arthur... We played from dusk till dawn;) he's father had a lot of money, so he buy good tasty food, we eating and playing;)
