I wish I'd written a letter like this to myself. When I was 15 I was in an abusive home. My mother and her boyfriend would make care for my 4younger siblings and at night I was sexually harassed by them and their friends. One time they even set me up to be raped but i managed to get away thanks to someone leaving a knife on the sofa arm. I ran to my bedroom and called my boyfriend. I didn't know the state and my mother's family were taking steps to get us out of that house. Thank God we were. I ended up being the foster child of neighbors who'd known me since I was little. They had 2grown sons and always thought I was a lovely little girl. I'm so glad they took me in. They gave me all the love and guidance I needed to be a better human and not a bitter one. From the time I was a very small child I believed only God and my tiny tears doll loved me. I prayed every night for God to send me someone to love me. I'd never been held hugged or kissed as a child. I was also told I was stupid and the ugly duckling of the family. I had ADHD back in the 50's/60's so no one knew why I couldn't sleep at night or sit still. I was beaten so much I still bear scars. My foster parents treated me like I was their own child. I will forever love them, they've been gone a long time but I've never forgotten them. They live in my heart and soul. I know they will be in heaven waiting for me. By the way I became a nurse and for over 30yrs I gave back the love and care I was taught by my foster parents. This song would have been just what I would have written to myself. So to all of you teenagers out there, no matter how bad things are, remember your future is up to you. Just BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. It's my prayer for all of you. Stay strong and focus on tomorrow. @@breakfree38it's not a story, but fact. I could write a book on my life with my family, years of pain and hurt. Years of being beaten with everything from a cast iron skillet to a belt to once having a pair of scissors thrown at me landing in my leg pretty deep. When I was sick they wouldn't take me to the doctors till they burst and I was septic and close to death, I was 9 at the time. So so many things I could have written, but all true. Not a story. I could show you the scars if you'd like. I pray no child ever goes through what I did, but I know that people do these things and worse to their children. It's a shame these kinds of people are allowed to have kids, but I know God will punish them. And to you, I'm glad you didn't have a childhood like mine or else you wouldn't have said "good story". If I've maligned you wrongfully in anyway I apologize, but it sounded like you didn't believe me. Thought I was just looking for attention. I never ever spoke of my childhood till I got in my late 60's, just for the comment you made. Who would believe me.? I have court documents and even proof it all did. I wish you all life's blessings and pray your never abused in your whole life. God bless you.

Still remember how over 10 years ago our first Japanese lesson in school was to sing this song in class. And now I'm crying as an adult and how relatable this 'letter' is today.
I am not even Japanese, Still I am here listening to this masterpiece everyday, idk why but it feels so Relatable even though I have no clue about Japanese, might be because music has no language! Loads and loads of love ❤
Wow... I was listening to this back in highschool not knowing the meaning of the song. Now that I'm an adult, I deeply relate to it. My teenage years is as rocky as it gets but I'm glad I survived one of the crucial time of my life.
Thanks to this song. I have been able to keep going. I have been severely depressed since 3 years or so. Can't even study properly like I used to do earlier. Now I'm in my second year in college and I'm just an below average kind student. I keep on comparing how in my school I used to be so active engaging, never losing hope kinda, always giving my 100% in all irrespective of results. I don't know I used to do that.. now I feel worthless and.. most important thing is I'm not proud of myself anymore, I am not able to have self respect anymore, I'm really really feeling so small and inferior. For some it maybe that I'm stressing too much about grades and all..they might be true. But I can't help if this is how I feel, it took me a lot of courage to get out of my house to join college , for the past 1½ years... I have been hopeless, tired. No no one knows but I have cried multiple times to sleep. Grief, sadness...are not words enough to express how deeply dissapointed I'm in myself. It's like I keep on getting a hit even after being dead. It sometimes hurt but at this point it feels like...souless. I don't know why but I've cried so much that I'm forcing myself to not cry right now. Hope that it gets better. Hope that I gain some self confidence once again. Hope that I can smile (genuinely) again..
