Tegan and Sara performing a stripped down and truly outstanding version of The Ocean. With them on stage playing the violin is Owen Pallett. Live in Toronto at the Polaris Music Prize gala on September 20th, 2010. www.teganandsara.com
Oh, Jesus, this gave me goosebumps. Tegan's so sad when she's singing this song, especially in this version. My eyes are filled with tears. God damn whoever broke Tegan's heart.
I can't believe I never heard that they were playing there! I was in Toronto on the 20th too! I'm so jealous! I love this version of The Ocean it's so addictive :D
i watched this live too! as soon as the violin started i was thinking.. oh crap. just when i thought the song was perfect.. they had to go and BLOW MY MIND. ive watched it about 50 times now..and its still like hearing it for the first time!! btw, wish i had money so i could have bid on their poster
This was such a good performance, it is my hundredth time watching this, they both have out of this world vocals, and are both hot. They are the only reason why I'm still here. They help me work up the courage to come out to my parents and I can't thank them enough. I love them so much. Best version of this song ever
I'm fairly certain that every single fan in the world cried when they watched this... did you see the twitter feeds? This song shows how wonderfully amazing they truly are.
This might be out of tune (as a lot of people have mentioned) but that makes it a million times better because Tegan Quin can do whatever she wants and it's PERFECT.
At the 2004 ACL Festival they canceled last-minute and Tracy Bonham took their place. She tried playing Walking With A Ghost in their honor but quickly gave up when she realized she didn't know anything but the chorus. She also played a scorching version of LZ's Black Dog. ...oh sorry, Tracy Bonham plays violin, that's what got me on this tangent.
@courtiepuff , I was thinking the same thing. It adds a new layer to the song. I love their accoustic perfomances, you can really her how well their vocals harmonize together.
she sounded mad like she was grrrr but its cool i still love this song it just shows the diffrent ways this song can be sung fav.. and im puting on my computer for later lol
@kati903 Twenty three words: They wrote the song so they can play it in any tune they please and it will still sound like a master piece! Just saying...
omg my heart like stopped....they didnt win for THIS?????? blasphemy!!!! but sainthood goin gold is awesome. well in Canada. now 4 the states!! i love Sara!!!! XD
Hmm its not really unnecessary its just the style in which they wished to sing the song you are entitled to your opinion, but its not unnecessary most Tegan and Sara fans love this version as do I
Disagree completely. The violin and electric are pretty intense during the verses and then they almost cut off completely, which just adds to the stillness and power of the chorus. I think this version is so emotional thanks in part to the chorus basically just consisting of Tegan's voice and the acoustic
