I don't see how everyone all over the world doesn't just completely love Tegan and Sara. They are the most awesome, adorable, deep yet humerus duo and they know 100% how to write good music. Not like most artists today. They are TRUE musicians and AMAZING people :)

I come back to this song every once in a blue moon, and realize, again how incredible it is. One of the best songs that Sara has written.

The more I listen to the album the more I seem to enjoy it. I do still prefer their older stuff don't get me wrong but I think there is a definite place in the world for stuff like this too. It's pop, but at the very least it feels like pop with a brain. That in itself is incredibly rare.

I can't stop laughing

when i heard this song, it made me think of what it would be like to be one of the ordinary people in a superhero movie, who have no choice but to just stand back and watch while some mutant in tights tries to save the world from some evil whackadoo hell bent on destroying it. or someone who tries to be a superhero but fails and then somebody else saves the day.

I took it as you telling your fans that you are normal people who lucked out, not someone who is a "hero"

I'd actually argue theres a lot of creative merit here. Sure it's not what a lot of us fans expected maybe, coming from them, but to say theres no creativity or insight to be found just doesn't seem right. No, they're not commenting on politics or the state of the world exactly but they're still writing songs about human emotions, and they're all places that anyone whos been in a relationship can relate to. It takes creativity to portray that side of things as well.

I can't remember who it was.... but I remember a while ago listening to an interview of someone and they said they felt every band should go through a sort of period like this. Not nessesarily just a "pop" phase but as you said, a bit of a "selling out" phase where they learn what they really want and then go from there. Whether that be more of this or going back to their older style who knows but everyone gets bored of doingt he same thing over and over... why not let them experiment?
