Mussels.... And the beach is man made. And I've been around that river my whole life all throughout the county and NEVER seen anything like a dead cow floating in the river.
I've been reading that the pool and the old beach house are all slated to be torn down. I'm a little concerned about what's happening with Ft. Boonesborough. It's being neglected.
I see that bathhouse and I remember loads of kids, buying ice cream at the concession stand (garage door things). A place from my childhood. My Grandmother lived on the road on the other side of the river, past Ford. This beach was where I spent many fun days swimming in the river.
That's what the garage door thing is! When we were there, I kept thinking I knew what that was for but couldn't remember. I remember going on a field trip there in fourth grade and being allowed to swim in the river basically unsupervised. It's wild how things have changed. Hope you're doing well!
I bet after a long week of dealing with the British and the natives, the settlers laid out on that beach and sipped moonshine cocktails to unwind. Which is probably why no one has ever asked me to join a militia. :)
This beach was very popular back in the pioneer days. Few people know this is where the drink "Sex on the Beach" was invented, but it was called "Relations on the Beach" back then.
