I got a Tektronix 2213A. I'm the first owner. I bought it brand new from Tektronix back in 1985. As I remember I paid $1,200 for it.

The mallory capacitors are original. the other nichicon ones would be the replaced ones. I can tell from the video that someone has been in that scope and see a few bodges.(hope that's how it is spelled). but nice looking unit. I have the exact model and see Mallory in mine from the factory and actually all of them look original even the other brands. Great video(5 years later). I enjoy this fun electronics field/hobby.

This is a well made, informative and helpfull video. Nice to see that this abused and neglected piece of test equipment got a second life. Thank you for sharing. I would have loved to see you going through the full calibration of the unit. At that point in the video, where you considered to readjust the measured -8.58V, I literally sat infront of my Laptop shouting out loud: NOOOOO!!! Don't touch that! Those -8.6V are the internal reference voltage to all other voltages. Adjusting it means you definetly have to recalibrate everything. BTW, my dog also sniffs and identifies bad capacitors with a high grade of convidence. Reading some of the comments, I do not understand what some people find so funny or unusual about that :)

Thanks for the nice comment! I actually planned to do a full calibration of the oscilloscope, but following the manual I realised that i don’t have all the necessary test equipment to perform it correctly, so I decided not to do it... Dave

Yes, and certain dog breeds detect cancer in humans. Most dogs can detect a drop of blood in an Olympic sized swimming pool.

Did you ever get to calibrating the scope?

I have a 2213 fully functional. But I couldn't remove the power supply shield, the rear screws T7 didn't come, I would have to drill the head and replace them afterwards. Cheers.

I have one just like it, but when I turn up the intensity I get waveforms offset by 90° to one another.

Hi, nice video, however, I'm still waiting for your (promised) next video that shows the realignment since the EEV Blog video of 2225 alignment is just NOT the same as needed for yours so...... Nice videos by the way...Tnx.

Can someone recommend me where to get capacitor replacements?

The mallory electrolytic caps don't have the vent fracture points is that why you are replacing them ? I noticed you didn't check their ESR and what is the dog supposed to smell, leaking electrolyte ? How did you train him/her to do that. Where is your service manual on that particular model, then you could find out what that mysterious component is with a single lead. I am a tech with over 20 years military background and civilian work as well, I wouldn't work without the tektronix service manual and they are for the most part so well written. I am interested in your video for I too have won a tektronix cro , a model 2215 on ebay. I have many cro's but I need a light one to carry out repairs on electronic organs. The tektronix power transformer types other than the relatively new (1983-4 or there abouts) types with SMP supplies , like the 465's I own are just too heavy to move around a large electronic instrument. I worry about buying older cro's on ebay for one doesn't know if the tube is stuffed or there is a HV transformer that has shorted turns that is not available except out of another u/s cro. Very interesting anyway, I hail from Australia and every piece or decent test equipment we get down here has to come from the northern hemisphere. We used to make our own test gear, (BWD electronics was one company for oscilloscopes) but all that is now dust. Regards Rob

Hi, thanks for the comment. I agree, i love old manuals, there's everything you need to know about the instrument. The mysterious component on that board was indeed a transistor with something that seems to be a pcb that act as a shield on top (was connected to ground). I did check the ESR of those capacitors but didn't film it, some of them were still fine, but changed anyways, i generally don't really trust old capacitors.. The HV and the tube, well.. i got lucky. The oscilloscope on ebay was listed as untested and talking with the seller i realized he didn't even know what an oscilloscope was.. so i got it for a bargain price.

I’m not an engineer and you seem to know what you’re doing but still, I would have brought it up to voltage slowly, tested it with a known sine wave, and checked PS voltages first. Then locate the “firecracker” RIFA caps (there should be 3, possibly the IEM plug has one.) Then the electrolytics, etc before ordering any parts.

Btw, I liked the “sniff test” :)

i got a tekt 2213 at a 2nd hand store for like 5$ working but i see you replaced the caps, do you have a list of what was needed and where they go on the power board, my unit works great but i would love for it to last a long time!

Hi, nice score for a tektronix! Well, i really don't remember the list of capacitors that i've replaced, i just followed the schematic and replaced the main filtering capacitor on the supply board. Here's a link to the service manual, here you can find the schematics and the drawing of all the components on the board: w140.com/tektronix_2213_service.pdf Hope that helps!

Did you ever complete the alignment/caibration video? I can't find it. TIA

Hi, yes i shot that video a while ago, but unfortunately i lost the footage.. i'm actually reshooting the calibration video (with better equipment too) and hopefully it will be out soon!

In the meantime i suggest you to have a look at the EEVBlog's calibration video of a Tek 2225 scope, different model, but very similar internally. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mHODWDBcQDg.html

I have a problem of finding the caps where did you get them? Are they all the same make I am talking about the ones you pulled and show it to the good dog. Did you higher values? After you Recapped it did you still have that buzz when power was turned on. So many questions Sorry. I keep looking at the Video to see if I can see the list of Caps.
@DaveElectronics
@DaveElectronics 5 лет назад
Hi, i got the replacements from ebay. After replacement the buzz was gone. Anyway i found the moment in the video when i show the list, if you pause at 19:32 you can see it. Here is what i could see: 4x 840uF 12V 2x 270uF 40V 1x 33uF 160V 1x 470uF 50V 1x 10uF 100V 1x 2,2uF 160V 3x .01uF 4kV Hope they are correct.. By the way i replaced the odd values with very close ones.. is not always good to higher the capacitance value. If you can get higher voltage values (with the same capacitance) is even better. Hope that helps. Dave

Hi, sorry, i don’t have it anymore.. but you can easily find everything you might need in the service manual of the instrument (w140.com/tektronix_2213_service.pdf)
