Richard Lloyd made his name as the guitarist for the underground rock band 'Television'. Having joined the band (Richard Hell - Bass, Vocals, Tom Verlaine - Guitar, Vocals, Billy Ficca - Drums) in 1973, he and Television manager Terry Ork discovered CBGB the following year - the club out of which American Punk music developed. Signed to Elektra in 1977, the band recorded two seminal albums - 'Marquee Moon' and 'Adventure', and despite the stature of these works now, at the time they failed to break Television into the big time, and they disbanded in 1978.
In this interview Lloyd discusses the New York underground scene in the 1970s, Andy Warhol, CBGB and the host of acts who emerged there (including The Ramones), his time in Television and the UK Punk scene they inspired.

Blown away by the stories and history. So sad regarding Tom death, and know Richard has been i'll for a while. Richard saying they each were missing the other part the other guy had is so perfect. Richard could play flawless melody repeats, Tom just stylistic and more chaotic. Peace, I regret never making it to CBGBs or Max's. What a fool I was in hindsight, instead spending years at Downtown Beruit and its legendary jukebox. Long live those days!

"I'd already walked out on everybody. Either they sucked and I said, 'Geh, I could be at home practicing'. Or they were really good, and I'd go, 'Geh, I'd better start practicing!'" Lloyd just cracks the fuck out of me everytime

Richard's leads on Marquee Moon are some of the greatest ever put to tape.

@dogsquadindia Tom has a very odd sense of phrasing that sounds fairly off the cuff while Richard's leads are very assured and straight forward

It's too funny how much Richard reminds me of my one friend's dad of about the same age. And he is not a musician of any kind, but he just has like the same tone and cadence, haha.

Richard Lloyd is a work of art.And like most works of art he bears only a passing resemblence to the "facts" on which the work is based. 90% of this story is fiction.

And the reason you know this is why? What did he make up? Are you his shadow?

+Bob Amato if you can't see that Richard is a fucking liar then you're stupid

No need to use profanity, What is he lying about? Are you willing to slander a fantastic musician because of your jealousy? Leave it alone.

Got two names for you Richard. Robert Quine Marc Ribot just to name a couple. And Quine is the one guitarist most widely recognized as the real inventor of the new lead guitar style born from the east village/CBGB scene of the 70's..

What question are you responding to? Do you think you're "telling" him something he doesn't know? He even mentions Quine at 4:17.
