This 'old' Telford looks fascinating. The kind of place I wish I'd been able to visit.....were it still here.😔

Excellent montage, just could have done with extending each photo for a slightly longer period. But I managed to identify most places!

Sadly I only remember the new town Telford but mum and dad told me of their memories in Dawley and dad in Oakengates where they lived. Looking at the pictures it was beautiful green fields and lovely villages. Thank you for doing the video.

What is that beautiful track? Goes very well with the pictures. Sadly, like a lot of people I never experienced it how it once was. Was 2000 the first time I visited Telford.

Love this. Would be handy to have the names of the places written in the video

As a small boy, I remember calling at the forest Glen side window to buy ice cream after walking up & down the Wrekin it was a very popular place on a Sunday afternoon back in the early 60s

Yes, I remember when Salop as it was known was only just starting to be taken over by Telford New Town. There were still plenty of pretty rural areas and I have fond memories of Madeley.

I have grown up in 21st century Telford, and I’m sad to say I don’t recognise half these places even know I have probably been to all of them 100 times.

Aye, for two years of my dad’s life as a Dawley lad this is what he knew (1966-1968) before everything was amalgamated into one big overflow slum for the brummies and scousers, bloody hell if this never happened then life would be so much better, the fact that we’re nearing Stafford in size and apparently now reach the Staffordshire border is nothing short of bloody stupid.

Very true it was Scousers and Brummies, good and bad imports re council housed or bought housing late 60's. Spent 2 years at Sutton Hill, emigrated Oct 71. Knew all the old towns before they were squashed. Luckilly still around 10 mile to Staffs border.

Are you sure these pics are just from a couple of years before 1960s? That looks like a totally different century, judging even by how people are dressed, not mentioning the quality of the pics.

This film does jump between different decades. One minute you're looking at scenes from the Edwardian period, then you're looking at a street from the 1950's, and then you're looking at a street scene from the 1930's. Basically it looks like this film covers from around the 1890's right up to the early 1960's - just before the new Telford started to take shape.

Good old days before grooming gang's and corrupt councillor's. Welcome to Telford and by the way your welcome to it.

I have to visit Telford often with work, and it’s always struck me as a bland, faceless place built for greedy capitalism. It’s always felt tragic. Now I’ve seen this it’s made it look even worse. To think what the town could have been if that bloody awful ‘town centre’ and all the surrounding retail parks hadn’t taken over 🙁

If you'd have seen what was where Telford Town Centre is now was in the 1960's, you would realise they ain't done such a bad job. All that was there was mile after mile of industrial slag heaps from the coal mines, it was ugly.
