I grew up in Telford from 1980 - 2008. It has some fascinating history. Nice video, now to find the next one!

When we were kids we always replied when unsure about where we were going on holiday that year " to Ketley Sands". I always thought that was due to the large sand pit on Ketley Rec. So I learned something new today.

Thanks Ian. That's a great story! Thanks for sharing it here. It's great to hear stories about the area that normally I would never have heard.

Yeah I remember when the place was demolished and the locals saying that the ground was contaminated and would need cleaning up before anything else could be built there. Personally I'd not live there I know what's under the ground.

Very interesting and informative. But C and G should have been Coalbrookdale and Granville Colliery.

Thanks Neil - glad you enjoyed it. I had so many ideas for each letter so I picked a C and a G that I thought might not be so well understood. I need to finish the second half of the alphabet and when I do I will be interested in your comments.

@AnthonyFrancisJones 4 года назад
@@neilwilliams2409 Thanks - that's very kind - the Corbetts are coming back in the second half of the alphabet... I felt a bit mad filming drain lid covers! As you point out there is so much more to say and so many other areas to visit - I had a long list for each letter - would love to do it all again but it is amazing how long it takes and if I am not sure of something finding primary sources rather than regurgitating unchecked stories. What I wanted to do most of all is share why Telford is such an interesting place as I have done with some of my London films. Now I must finish the second half....!

I'm suprised it's not part of Wales. From what I understand it's close to the Welsh border

Yes, close and boarders moved all over the place over the years but sits in its own unitary authority within Shropshire but it is not a county!

Sorry I just want to try to learn Welsh and practice from time to time. Lol. It's a difficult language to learn but my ancestors might have been Welsh. I know my 2nd great grandfathers name was James Welsh Kemp. One of my 4th great grandmother Sarah Gosse Kemp was the great aunt of Sir Edmond Gosse. Not sure if you've heard of him. I never heard of him until I researched my paternal grandmothers ancestry. Her great grandparents the Kemps came from Poole Dorset England in the 1830s to 1840s
@AnthonyFrancisJones
@AnthonyFrancisJones 4 года назад
@@2380Shaw Facinating - you have a poet's blood - Welsh, not easy to learn but for the literature alone worth the challenge. Close by to here in Oswestry (still England) you hear lots of Welsh spoken especially by older people.

Telford is not Ironbridge look at a map . I was once in Mexico 🇲🇽 and somebody asked where are you from I said Telford they replied traffic lights and roundabouts lol
@AnthonyFrancisJones

Thanks Nicholas - did I say that? You are of course right. It is in the Unitary Authority of Telford and Wrekin. Whether you can say Ironbridge is 'in' Telford I am not sure!

@@wiggysworld - Yes that's right - remembering that the J&CMB has been 'replaced' recently as it was taken and completely rebuilt. Regardless, I have found it hard to find primary sources for a few of my scripts so I am always up for corrections.
