@@katuk8173my mother covered up the rape of my 3 year old sister by our uncle. I was 6. She told me if I ever told anyone they would putt me in jail. My sister took her own life at 25. A few months before, she came to my house, drunk, and told me about the rapes. I didn't have the courage to tell her that I had told our mother. My mother died in 2011. My hand was on her chest when her heart stopped beating. I needed to make sure the bitch was dead. Myy sisters and I each had 5 minutes alone with her body. I gave her all the baggage I had been carrying for 45 years. It helped me heal, but to this day I still wake up with my 3 year old sister's screams in my head. My mother not only turned my sisters against me, she turned my oldest son against me as well. I've never told him about what happened. I have, however, told my daughter and youngest son, and I wrote a letter to my oldest son, to be given to him in the event of my death, knowing full well my sisters will deny it ever happened. I've watched this documentary about these amazing men several times, and I know their pain. Because I lived it. I will be forever grateful for them being two of the most courageous human beings on earth, because I can't imagine I'm the only person they've helped by telling their story. My mother broke me. I was a broken child that grew to be a broken adult. Sending love and kindness from Toronto kiddo. We didn't deserve to be broken. No child does. 🤍❤️🤍❤️🤍❤️

Like a coal has to go through extreme pressure and heat to become a diamond... That's exactly what Marcus is... Very very few people at the age of 18 have the maturity to decide something so painful. That 18 yr old boy was nothing less than an angel on earth... His love for his brother, is beyond imagination... I can actually see him teary eyed, letting his brother live a happy life while he bottles everything inside... Any 18 yr old would want to share, cry, loose his mind if in today's world... Blame other for their life, destroy his own life. But here we have Marcus... Who not only stabilized himself but took the responsibility to make a happy life for his brother. Walking alone on the thorny path. A big warm hug to you Marcus. I cried and cried for both the brothers... The mother looked so crazy and twisted in the pictures itself... I feel so sad and heart broken, imagining those little boys with that psychopathic hag....

I have just watched this on Netflix, and it is an amazing piece of film. The brother who remembers all the horrendous details of their childhood, the pain is etched in his face, the twin who had no memories of it does not bare these lines, he should not fault his twin for not telling him, as I think he was trying to spare him the horrors of it. 2 very brave men talking openly and honestly about a subject that few survivors of childhood sexual abuse feel they can talk about.
@YugeYun
@YugeYun 4 года назад
Yeah that was my first impression. The brother with the memories looks like he had a really rough life compared to the other twin. He looks older and his voice is rougher. Although the other twin knows the truth, he still doesn't bear the details of what happened nor the emotions attached to them. Sometimes I wish I didn't remember my childhood for growing up in an alcoholic family. It's really destroyed my life so far.. I'm unable to work and possibly suffer from depression and anxiety for the rest of my life. If not remembering it all could make me a functional human being, I think I would take it.

I sobbed through the entire thing. I fully understand why Marcus omitted those horrible experiences from Alex once the burden of being a victim of sexual abuse is far too painful. I myself was sexually abused when I was a child and what hurts me most, up to this day, is that I told my mother about what had happened and she did nothing about it since she had locked herself away in her grief after my father's death. Never felt more abandoned in my life and it took me years to say a word to anyone else about it. If I had had someone to help me copy with those horrific experiences back then, maybe I wouldn't have dived into the dark paths of depression, suicidal thoughts and alcoholism that consumed me for years. Now, thankfully to years of therapy, I started allowing myself to heal, to forgive. I found wonderful friends that I can call family; connected with amazingly talented human beings through my deep passion for the art of Drag, and finally found new meanings to life.

@Pamela Lindy I think deifying parental figures was, in retrospect, a mistake in human cultures. Our ancestors knew there were monstrous parents but chose to put all parents on pedestal in a vain effort to establish a subconscious control, a gripping imprint in the back of humanity's mind that might have served as part of a moral compass, but at the same time, barred children from seeing them as real flawed humans, which in turn, warped the resentment and unsolved frustration into far uglier impulses and outlooks. Parents are not infallible.

Part of me thinks maybe it shouldn't have stayed a secret until they were 54, but I also get why Marcus hadn't wanted to tell. He didn't want to have to leave the fantasy they'd been living. And I also understand Alex. That he knew only bits and pieces of information and that not knowing what's real and fake is horrifying. And I understand his need to know the truth. As horrified I was at the cruelty of their mother, I was just as struck by the incredible strength and bravery of both Marcus and Alex, each in their own way. They are both so entitled and right to their own feelings, Alex with his need to know his past, and Marcus with his need to protect them both, to rewrite their past. Neither of them could have done anything different. The years they lost with one another in their adulthood is just one last evil thing this woman did to them. They didn’t create the rift, she did. They are two beautiful and amazing survivors and I can only hope that the next phase of their lives are as beautiful as they always deserved and shared each with the other. I hope they know, Marcus in particular, that the incredible strength he showed by exposing the evil they both endured from their “mother” will help others who have suffered child sexual abuse to know that they are not alone and that their feelings are valid and okay and that they shame is NOT THEIRS, but belongs only to their abusers. i just finished watching this. Blown away. I went in not knowing anything of what this would be about....only the title and that it would be true story of two twin brothers. So beautiful.... i feel such awe and honor for what beautiful souls these two men are; incredible that they are such loving and gentle men even after the abuse they grew up in. i feel very grateful for their making this and sharing it ....i feel such strong resonance and i don't know why.

Felt the same. I was also thinking how Marcus turned out to be such a stand up loving humanbeing. After all the horrors he went through, he could have turned out an abuser or hated the object that caused him this trauma, mothers or women in general. Or numb his pain with drugs or alcohol. But he ended up marrying and having a family. Whatever devine power held him together wow 🙏🙏.

The people that have said to Marcus that he should’ve told his brother can’t even relate to their story and their horrific experiences! I cried watching this! These two are such incredibly strong men! What a disgusting and disgraceful human being their mother was!! And not having a good and loving father.. I can’t stand it either that she got away with it with her death. In that sort of situation there is never a right or wrong answer. I understand where Alex is coming from and i understand where Marcus is coming from but i will never understand the true magnitude of the horror they went through. Their bond was strong, but the pain was too great for one man to handle. A huge thing to confront [and only those who have experienced sexual abuse can understand this] and a massive burden for Marcus to carry for them both, Many people who have been sexually abused sometimes take decades to even confront it, never mind talk about it. The biggest betrayal came from the mother, its unimaginable to most people the absolute horror of it from a mother who knew right from wrong but simply didn't care. The twins were not treated right from the outset, living in the shed. They were just bodies [hence the photograph] to be shared with their elitist friends, and people in power isn't that what it's all about? POWER and CONTROL over the other, no matter what money they had or not. Ultimately now all has been revealed it's proven that their bond was shook, but unbreakable, The courage of Marcus to stand up and say NO is something he should remember. I admit I cried when watching this, an amazing documentary.

You actually answered a lot of my questions. I was curious why did they live in the shed? Why so many rules? Why the photo with there heads cut off? why this why that? But you said it perfectly. CONTROL and they were just bodies. The mother was obviously a very selfish woman. Probably cheated on her husband. I still have a lot of curiosities about there family/ home life. Sounds like the mom was maybe a hoarder too. I don't understand why she kept all there gifts from them. That's weird and cruel.
