In the early 1900s the federal government and private companies invested heavily in a dam network that allowed us to build here and extract minerals. I don't know the percentage but if these dams fail a massive amount of East Tennessee goes under water.
You obviously have never been to east Tennessee if you built on a mountain it would cost a ton of money to make an access and take a hour to drive to the top so they are put in the flat areas which are often where the creeks are
@@jimsecrist4222Overflowing the dam is better than a breached dam, because it means only the excess is being released. Most large damns have some sort of spillway intended to compensate for typical weather situations. This is not normal in any way.

Very annoying they said the damns failed and Douglas reservoir was gonna be flooded up to the road on 25 that was 12 hours ago, the water has only risen 10 feet. It was down about 20 ft. They should say damn failure is possible not that it's happening
It was unfortunate that we had a nontropical weather front cause 2-3 days of rain before Helene arrived. There is just nowhere for the water to go 😢 I am fortunate to be between Knoxville and Chattanooga where we had a lot of rain some wind but no significant damage.
