In late August of 2021 we embarked on an incredible 8 day backcountry canoe trip down the Lady Evelyn River in Temagami. We put in at Gamble lake and return the same way, going down to Katherine Lake where we based camped so we could do day trips to the South Channel waterfalls and also Helen's falls in the Trout Streams

Man, those portages look like they've busted few ankles of the years...there were so many boulders. Great vid, awesome waterfalls but too bad about the supper that hit the ground! Its happened to us all! Cheers!

Thanks! Yeah, we did have a few close calls on the portages, very rugged but worth the efforts. The water falls were unreal. Lesson learned on the frying pan handle lol.

How fun is that. The falls are somewhere I’m sure my boys would love to visit. What a beautiful and peaceful spot you found! The water is like glass!! -Erinn

Nice, how'd you find the portages, would you go back? This trip has been on my bucket list.

I would absolutely go back. The portages are more technical and difficult than ones in Algonquin because they have a lot of boulders over rock .meaning the ground is constantly uneven and taking out/putting in is challenging. The big waterfalls also have very steep elevation in their portages but they are all realitivly short (less than 300 meters). I would take your time though and you should be able to do it. Having patience and watching your footing is key. Totally worth it though!

Looks like you had a great trip Darren! Was this the trip you went on after you stayed the night at Samuel de Champlain Provincial Park?

Enjoying this idea of base camp and visiting the falls from there. Bucket list trip for us. 🛶🏕 someone may have already mentioned that there is a steel part at the end of your handle that you are suppose to slide down to prevent that mishap. (Speaking from experience 😜)

Lol yep learned that the hard way about the handle. Highly recommend base camping on katherine lake if you get the chance, easier access to both channels of waterfalls
