Alot of people don't realize that it's not that he's outta shape. Adrenaline is pumping and he needs to remember to breathe. Slow it down Coach slow it down.
Adrenaline doesn't do this. The man is wildly out of shape. We've all watched dozens, if not hundreds, of videos of officers pursuing on foot. And guess what? They never sound like this guy.
He was a about a mile away with his back towards the cop. I guess that’s what they teach you in the Academy shoot people in the back when they’re running 🏃♂️ away from you and kill them and pretend to cry so you get off Scott free.
Adrenaline is why he's so winded , it would seem most these comments have never experienced this kind of fear. It kinda has a heavy toll .... He said he fired 4 shots , only two were fired, he emotionally breaks down at the end . Betting it's his first time having to do this.
its the adrenaline dump. if you get into a fight/flight situation that causes an adrenaline dump, you go from breathing normally to sounding like you just ran a marathan in about 60 seconds.
These replies have never experienced anxiety. Yes clearly he's experiencing an adrenaline dump but everything started to go out of control for him for a second there. He handled it very well all things considered.
I just watched about 40 of these videos, and I have to disagree. I've seen cops running all day long, further distances, and none of them sounded like this guy. He seemed more like he was having an anxiety attack or something.
@@syberphish it could be a mix of both, different people have different reactions but ive had a dump like that and couldnt stop breathing super heavy like he did and it wasnt any panic, but good point we dont know for sure.
@@syberphish it's not really about the running at all. Adrenaline dumps cause rapid shallow breathing cuz your body tries to bring in more oxygen to push it and more blood, to your muscles
@@kevinc233 He's breathing heavily cause of the adrenaline rush, haven't you ever had one before? You start breathing heavier, your heart starts pumping harder, I personally think he was only breathing that heavy cause of the situation that just went down, not because of the running...

@@alanvasquez2760 agreed, just because the cop thought it was a real gun the kids back was turned and was halfway down the alley. The cops life was not in danger.
Man this is sad, someone lost their life due to a mistake in judgment. Tempe PD is made up of good people, I imagine this officer is severely damaged by this. Policing is incredibly tough
Do you know people within Tempe PD? Im by no means anti-cop, but Tempe pd has a pretty bad reputation, at least thats what I hear living in the surrounding area. Ive heard they sometimes take officers who get fired from other departments for misconduct. But I know nothing. No hate.
I'm sorry I will never understand why police shoot and kill people who are running AWAY from them. Gun or not how is a person running away a threat to the police? By all means if he is running towards the police they have every right to defend themselves. But I would never feel threatened by a person running away.
@@railla252 I wouldn’t shut yourself off from the possibility of learning by stating, “I’ll never understand”. It’s not too complicated, there are several factors. If the person is a perceived threat, if the nature of the call is violence, if they have a violent past and are under current federal warrant, if they have a weapon, etc. There are many policies that are freely available to the public’s eye that describe different practices of the police. If you wish to understand I suggest you look them up. Policing is a very hard job, you’re tasked with upholding the law in the midst of millions breaking it. Constant stress, and fear dominate their existence.
He pursued on foot without any backup? Just shot into the alley from too far away with no concern about his shots hitting homes and backyards? So many mistakes. This person was not qualified or experienced enough for this kind of work.
You guys must not know how it feels when this type of adrenaline really kicks in! There’s no fucking way you can control it, it is not that he’s out of shape!
A person don't carrying around a replica gun just to show it off to his friends ... they carry it to make withdraws at convince stores and borrow peoples cars against their will ... Another one off the street .... Good Stuff !
That cop really sounded like he was gasping for his last breath. I think it was more than just adrenaline, I think it's a combination of panic, adrenaline, trying to talk into the radio while running, and donuts.
Adrenaline, heartrate goes up exponentially. Same happens with a lot of fighters like boxers. They train for 10+ rounds easily, but are (often) gassed out when they have a real fight.
Police departments have physical fitness tests to JOIN the force but I don't know that Tempe PD cares afterward. This guy was very overweight and incapable of doing his job so he killed the person as the easy way out.
Quite simple actually. If it was a real pistol and he rounded that corner he could easily setup a ambush on the officer when he rounds the corner. Officer wasn’t going to take a chance so he shot
I've been a police officer in the Army and in the county I live in (25 years) and you only have milliseconds to decide what the person has in hand and to fire or not. I shot a kid when I was deployed to Somalia (1993) when we got fired at when I was gate guard at the stadium in Somalia. so I know what he's going through
DEAR OFFICER Don't give up on us. We are not all bad. I know not all cops are bad. WE NEED YOU. Your family needs you. We need you to keep it together. Don't hurt yourself over the poor actions of another.stay strong. WE NEED YOU

Tennessee vs. Garner. Gives the officer permission to shoot at a fleeing suspect if that suspect is perceived to be a threat to that officer or the public for instance a suspect running from the officer and what appears to be a firearm in hand during the simple stop and talk is a perceived threat to the public
That's so sad on both sides of what took place in this incident! By the officer hypoventilating from shooting the guy & after he got the news from the other officers notifying him that it was just a kid with a toy gun.😔😔😔 & Also as well!!! Why in the world would that kid take off running from the officer?? Is mind-boggling🤔🤔🤔
@Islam Islam people come in all shapes and sizes you could have a 30 year old girl who is 4’ 6” that at first you might think is a child you are an ignorant person lol
He took off running probably cause he’s a kid and was afraid of getting arrested or in trouble, one thing for sure is I’m a Hispanic born in the U.S and when I was around his age I took a toy gun to school to show off to my friends, cops came busting in the classroom and took me, he then told me I could’ve got shot by them for that toy gun, my parents never taught me anything about laws since they were just poor hard working immigrants who didn’t know much about that stuff, while it might be common sense for a lot of you, as a kid you never imagine a cop killing you for a toy gun, you just see cops as protectors but don’t see when they can and will use lethal force, that’s just my experience though .
@@michaelu2562 okay brother I'm sorry to hear that & that's not good to hear at all whatsoever that's for sure!!! Panic, adrenalin and the body trying to catch up with its supercharger. In times of extreme stress the mind recruit massive amounts of reserve energy that must be recharged with oxygen.
Police chasing the guy running with the gun on his hand. What do you expect? Do you need the police to shout and ask whether it's a toy gun or a real one?
They are required to audibly declare who they are. You don’t know what the boy saw. A man behind a trash can with a gun at ready? Or the badge? You can’t tell anyone what the kid saw.
@@agoniaXdunya is the same for the officer I get what your saying but in the first place what was the kid doing there by himself knowing the dangers that follows ina close valley like that he should have adult with him and don't say that his a kid and maybe he was going to a friend still he needs an adult to take him to his friend house and back home because now in days were leaving in a place where there's more kid trafficking than before and more kills by bandits

oh well that's mature!! It's not the parents fault that this young person, who is old enough to know the difference between right and wrong, made a choice to run away from a cop holding a toy gun that looks real. There's a reason that kid used a gun like that. It's his own fault. Nobody else's. Obviously, you aren't a parent. The reason these things happen is because of the choices that kid made himself. ThePrinceThat WasPromised or is it still a toy ? So running from a cop with a toy gets you killed ? Cops are allowed to be executioners ? Was his life in danger I don’t think so. Another case of an officer shooting a child in the back !
David Burgmeier id calm your ass sir. Have you been a Leo, a veteran? I’d guess not spewing out that trash. The police officer involved was obviously distraught over what had happened. And until you go out and put your ass on the line DAY IN AND DAY OUT, then maybe you can have a say. Till then keep your ignorance where it belongs, and watch and learn
Poor officer for this event definitely left him mentally scared for life, the young man shouldn’t have ran , especially knowing if he’s carrying something resembling a gun could get him shot, especially when a lot of them are realistic to be more interesting to kids . It’s a tragedy for the hound mans family . I pray for them both
Police said Arce turned toward Jaen, causing him to perceive a threat and fire his weapon. Body camera video shows that to be a lie, that Arce never turned or broke his stride running away down the alley when the officer took careful aim and fired at the distant teen, pausing between shots to aim again. The officer, in fear for his life, will not be charged.
They shouldn't lie, but if you run from cops, you're not being civilized. We live in a 1st world county and are civilized. Why is this hard for people to understand.
Hunter running is not a death sentence. US soldier kills a kid with a gun without being shot at will end up in Leavenworth. Cops want to dress, act, and get the respect of military but don’t want Rules of Engagement or the training.
Never turned. How is this a justified shooting? Running away, yes stupid. But the kid was 14. Kids aren't allowed to be kids anymore in the US. I still don't understand how it's okay for a cop to just start shooting at someone running, even if they have a gun, airsol in this case. It's Arizona. I thought they allowed guns in that state.
Jason Scott so if I see a person dressed as a cop running with a gun should I shoot them? What if they aren’t a cop and just dressed as one to get people to open their doors? Should I shoot first and then ask questions later? Don’t play the what if scenario. In the military you cannot open fire on to someone unless shot at. We need to start playing the “what if” scenarios with cops. Shoot first ask questions later
Jason Scott any cop that doesn’t immediately give name and badge number should immediately be drawn on because what if they are a criminal impersonating a cop, you don’t know. It’s better to be safe
I'm asking questions few others don't wanna ask: Why did the officer fire on the 14-year old from such a distance? Why did the officer not render first aid prior to his cover unit arrivals. And why did the supervisor applaud the officer saying "you done good!"
I can't tell if you're joking so I'll assume you're be serious, 1.) From what he knew the kid had a gun and just because he isn't a threat to him doesn't mean he isn't a threat to the people around him and in the area 2.) He didn't provide first aid because you're more likely to kill a suspect preforming CPR then saving them not only that but the suspect can still be dangerous they just dont know. From everything he knew he did a perfect job you're just looking at this from an emotional and not rational point of view.
Man I feel for both sides here, the kids and his family and that officer. Kid lost his life and his mother a son and the officer lost his career and who knows what kinda trauma this brought him and his fam. I know losing a life and career dont compare but all because of this dumb kid being a dumb kid and an officer doing his job. A job that I don't even think is compensated properly for what they go through on a daily basis. Just sad all around 😞

Nicholas Martin wdym bro? if he had a gun and he’s running away WITH a gun, hell yeah it was right to shoot em, he could’ve easily like ambushed the cop/cops around the corner of the alley, ditched it in the alley, or possibly take a hostage or something. Smh
if you are running from police and you are armed, you will be perceived as a threat. its not that hard to understand. it is very easy to ambush, take a hostage, or just kill who is in your path if you are allowed to run while having a dangerous weapon in your hands.
@@wilson4180 Well if the children isnt responding to the police and has a gun in his hands ( even if its a toy gun the police dont know) then i think its not very hard to see why someone would shot a 14 yo child.

This police officer f’ed up that day and he knew it the moment his finger left the trigger firing those two deadly shots. Hence his uncontrollable breathing the closer & closer he got around the corner. He killed a kid with a fake gun from a distance without being sure what was going on. I don’t want to see Tennessee vs garner comments either. How do you justify killing a kid because you thought. One thing I'm sick of seeing, consistently, on this these videos, is cops telling other cops to turn off their body camera/sound. There is a culture of hiding/obscuring evidence whenever something like this happens and I think it's a symptom of a much larger problem.
That's because once you shoot someone in the line of duty it becomes a criminal investigation. They are not trying to cover something up, they turn them off because that's what the union and the PD agreed upon. In the case the officer did something inappropriate, they don't want any statements made on the record without the presence of an attorney. We have the same rights as you.

There seems to be quite a few officers out there that are mentally unfit for the job. By that I mean, I see a lot of adrenaline dump and panic attacks. I don't know if it's in their training. But every first responder should go through a complete psychiatric evaluation. I have no problem with officers shooting criminals and actually believe they should shoot more. It's the in battle and after battle mentality some officers struggle with.
Shoot more? Like shoot an unarmed man point blank seven times in the back? That kid never turned back to face the cop or point the toy gun at the him. My question is why won't citizens like you see what the rest of world sees in a clear video as an unjustified shooting and just admit the the cop made a bad mistake?
