Both of u are good-Americans. You've done homework prior to visit. You care about history (I'm Thai but live in CA for 15 years. I can sense most Americans don't seem to care about history). Stacia used the term "Lanna" (northern Thailand), I'm impressed. Actually, Lanna is not just a dynasty. It was once a Kingdom. After Ayuthaya Kingdom won battles over Lanna, from that point on, Lanna was included as part of Ayuthaya (Later, Thailand). It's similar to England & Scotland story.... As far as my favorite temple in CM, I'd give it to "Wat Umong" (tunnel temple). It looks ancient. There're tunnel / cave system run through the temple, act as path ways to link each chambers...... Overall, u 2 have done really good job in vloging, explaining, etc... and by u 2 have interest in history, that'll enhance your travel experience cuz u explore places in depth. I'd say u 2 are 1% of American tourists who do that, ha ha ha.... P.S. I'll show this vlog to my American neighbors, they don't even know what CM is.
Thank you for this comment!! We love America, but it’s unfortunate to hear that sometimes tourists just go through the motions. Hopefully our videos can help share some information with future travelers ☺️❤️ I saw the tunnel temple, which looked incredible!! Maybe that’s something we will check out soon. Thanks for your added info and we appreciate the support! Cheers to you in Cali 👋
agree!! lots of tourists visit Thailand to express and do what the are not allowed in their land. Poor Thailand to be a place of bad behavior explosion.
American here, totally agree. Many are brainwashed into "faux green leaders" proclaiming "going green" while exhausting a carbon trail of there own higher than 99.9% of people per capita.
Thank you!!! I love learning about the different places we travel to and it makes me happy to hear when people like it too :) Hope you have a nice weekend!
OMG you guys!!! Just started following you & I'm already in love! Stacia, I LOVED how you handled not being able to go into the temples with not only grace but explained it in a way that viewers can be more thoughtful about stepping outside of their own ethnocentric mindsets and still enjoy the experience.
You guys are back in Thailand! Welcome to my hometown, Chiang Mai! :D Hope you have a great time here. Those are real silver :) The total budget of this temple is 25 million baht, it is said to be the first silver temple in the world.
One of the better videos I have seen posted to RU-vid. There was no over exaggerations, no talking heads but rather honest straight forward narrative of what was being viewed. We are going back to Chiang Mai after a 40+ years and we are looking for new information. Thank you both for taking the time to put this together. Very well done.
I love your slo-mo shots. Your choice of music to overlay the slo-mo shots was perfect. I am glad you both were able to experience the culture/religion of Buhda.
Gosh, you both put in so much effort in learning about the beautiful places you visit and in turn educate us. I don’t do simultaneous search on Wikipedia anymore since I discovered your channel. Thank you and love you guys !
Thank you for the nice comment 😊🙏🏻 Although, Wikipedia may have more info than we do haha 😂 Really glad to hear you enjoy our videos. Thanks for the continued support ❤️
I love these videos! And I'm learning so much when it comes to editing and slo-mo just by watching. I'm in Thailand now and you guys were one of the main reasons I came. Thank you SO much!
Loved to see this amazing places. I’ve learned so many details of this place. Now I’m planning to visit this place. Never knew until now. Thanks so much to the both of you. Take care and more power 😍
Gorgeous video! Watching all the beautiful b-roll footage got me so emotional. Not just because it was moving, but because when I was in Thailand for a week I wasn’t able to visit any temples. Watching your videos helps me experience all the things I wanted to do while I was there. 😭 So thank you for that. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much Sorany Var!! So glad to know you enjoyed the video and it helped you see some places you weren’t able to experience. We have some more awesome Chiang Mai videos coming soon. Stay tuned 😊
Beautiful video as always , I’m hoping to go back to Chiang Mai in January, and visit the Silver temple . I love the design and detail of the temples , but I didn’t visit that one . Great artistic videography , well done .
Thank you Brian! Yes, Chiang Mai is amazing. We have been loving it here. We are extending our visas for another month and going to explore even more. Hopefully on your next visit here you can visit the one you missed 😊
Aw thanks Linda!! I love sharing info of things I learn. Hey, I think we will be back in KL for New Years if all goes well. We will have to meet and say hi again at the colorful Batu Caves! ☺️
Best B roll and music choices, as always. Chiang Mai is definitely on my list! It looks super nice. Really excited to take advantage of all the flight opportunities from here in KL. Keep up the awesome videos. 🍻
That's awesome. We just finished a year in Hanoi. Got to see lots of Vietnam, but not much else. Bangkok, Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China. So many more opportunities from here in KL! Definitely going to have to re-watch some of your old Malaysia vlogs to get inspired. We'll be spending at least 7 months here, so we can manage to fit in Indonesia, Singapore, Cambodia, Australia and a bunch of others. Looking forward to seeing what you guys are up to next! Any solid plans after the Chiang Mai extension??
I always love seeing your videos about Thailand. I was happy to see this video coz I have just been in 3 of these temples last month, May 2019. I agree that the Silver Temple is indeed unique and one of the best. I've always loved Chiang Mai and I can't wait to be back hopefully for Loi Krathong this year.
Love your video! I just returned from my 13days in Thailand and didn’t know about the first two temples while I was in Chiang Mai otherwise I would have find a way to visit them.
Thanks so much! Very happy to know you enjoyed the video 😊 Sorry you weren’t able to see the first two temples. The silver one is amazing! But I hope the video helped you experience some of it through our eyes ❤️
I love how you guys mentioned not being offended about the 'no women allowed' restriction. A lot of tourist try to force their country's rules or should I say 'American' rules onto other cultures and religions for that matter. I could see a group of western foreigners getting offended and making a big fuss about this. Thank you for this! Stay blessed. P.s, I mentioned on your insta story, that silver temple is straight out of those Asian fantasy movies. Such a gem!
Yeah, we always stay respectful!!! I would be embarrassed to see someone from the western world protesting this rule. Thank you for your support and for enjoying our videos, we truly appreciate it 🙏🙏 And yes, we love the silver temple, I think it’s our favorite one so far in our travels!! Cheers
Just came back from 10 days in Thailand a few days ago - it wasn't enough time to see everything! Thanks for showing beautiful footage of what we didn't see!
Thank you so much! Glad you’re enjoying all the videos 😊 We have a Bangkok series from a few months back if you’re interested. Welcome to the DBVfam ❤️
stacia, good thing ryan is there to document everything inside the temple. and i agree with you that we must always respect other cultures. that hurts!!!!
Jan Lim I know!! I got lucky to have him there to film the insides ☺️ The inside of the silver temple is beautiful looking! Yeah, I read some blogs that women (well, backpacker girls probably) were protesting and yelling at the guards of the temples for stopping them from entering. How rude of those women, I am embarrassed for all women hearing that!
@@staciasleight3369 yeah that really rude of them, they should realize that temples are holy for their faithfuls, so they must respect that. how's your head?
Jan Lim haha it’s okay Jan, thanks for asking. Hurt for the rest of the night but not much past that. I must be thick skulled 😂 But we already kinda knew that 😜
Beautiful indeed. In fact, I would say that your skills are superb and I really appreciate your patience, application of mind in capturing the real pictures of the world. I wish you every success in your life. Have a wonderful and fantastic journeys ahead!! Best regards, Nassa
Thanks Bing!!! ❤️ These temples were sooo pretty, especially the silver temple. Very different from the ones in Bangkok too! We hope you’re having a good weekend, cheers from 🇹🇭
Another great video !with great information and editing .Your hard work is obvious guys .There is another special thing about you is that you reply on each and every comment which also needs time and effort.I appreciate it.I love that you divide the work between you but I have a suggestion why not to swich roles in one video so Ryan takes the information and picking the places part and Stacia films the video and edit it.Just even for one video ,it will be so much fun and new to the channel.
You are, hands down, my favorite vloggers. Love you both [not said lightly]. The information, professionalism, enthusiasm, research and artistic quality that you demonstrate time after time is unparalleled. /salute
@@DeathByVlog I do. It's part of the research I'm doing for retirement next year. That's also why I noted your Chaing Mai comment, about it being a place where you both could live. Your comments about the good and the bad and the wasteful helps a lot.
Exquisitely shot opening montage !! Great job bro !! A camera is only as good as the cameraman...and you have the 'eye'... Great video showing us interesting places that we otherwise wouldn't know about.
@@DeathByVlog and thank you guys also for engaging with your subs in the comments section. So very few youtubers ever takes the time and it means a lot to us!! Have a blast and be careful as we're in the monsoon season on these part of the world.... Cheers !!
Thank you. We try our best to respond to almost every comment. We know that if the channel keeps growing that won’t be possible as much. But for now, we feel it’s only right to respond if the person took time out of their day to watch our video and leave a nice comment 😊❤️ Actually, we love the rain sometimes. When we were in Vietnam it rained once a day and it was so intense! We would sit out on our balcony and watch it. Never saw rain like that before 😮
Your vision of the world is so amazing true the lens ! Both of you are truly blessed , and I feel special for have the opportunity of enjoying that view ! Awesome work .
We were in Chiang Mai last November, too. We hit the mountain villages and walked the stairs to Wat Doi Sutep first and were too tired to hit any temples the rest of our time in Chiang Mai
Love this video, and what I love more is the respect you show by explaining why women are not allowed in. You're so right. This is why more people need to respect cultures in different countries... Chaing Mai is one of our favorite places in Thailand to go, have been everywhere you have shown.. Next trip will be 10 times to Thailand... Cheers!
Again, what a great video! And very informative! I 'll be in Chiang Mai just for 3 days at the beginning of January and that was very helpful. Keep enjoying life! Cheers from Crete, Greece!
Thank you! Hope you get to see some of the places we are visiting when you come here. Chiang Mai is really a great place. Also, thank you for watching and commenting 😊
Yay!! You guys made it to Doi Suthep. Isn't it just stunning? I hope you enjoyed your visit to Chiang Mai. So much to see and take in, and the most amazing, loving and beautiful people as well. Can't wait for my next visit back next November. 🙏❤
@@DeathByVlog Yeah, the weather was absolutely perfect this time around, and very minimal humidity. Definitely lucked out 😀. I was so so close to extending my stay another 30 days as well but my bosses would've killed me! 😂 But I'm for sure staying for a couple months next time, and really doing some serious thinking about possibly moving there. You just feel so welcome and at home in Chiang Mai. I'd like to get out of my cooking job here at home and do a little street food cart there during the high season doing my Jambalaya with local Thai ingredients. 🤔... We will see, anything can happen. So where to next? Or ya just gonna stay in Chiang Mai and setup shop? I know it's tempting!! 😉
Hello Tria! Thank you and welcome to the channel. Great to have you here. Be sure to check out our Indonesia videos from the past two months. We had so much fun in Bali ❤️
I'm grateful because you are willing to explore and explain it for us. can not to not fall in love with your vlogs. this inspiring me and my friends to go there next february. thank you for always bring your 100% effort and heart on each vid. greeting from indonesia :)
Hi Endah, so happy to hear you’ll be taking a trip yourself soon. That’s amazing! 😀 Thank you as always for your support of the channel and for the nice comments ❤️
RafaelQ snow nooooo. I saw all the pics. Looks nicer than it feels I’m sure! The weather is great here in Chiang Mai right now!! About 85 during the day and gets down to 70-75 at night which is perfect. Midday is humid but it’s generally good weather. We sure will miss having a white Christmas though! Hope this winter isn’t too brutal for you
Great video guys. I need to come back and check these temples out. It would be nice to see a drone shot. How's the food in Changmai? Keep up the good work. I would love to see Stacia eats grasshoppers and other bazaar snacks on the street. 😁😁😁
Thanks Devon! Glad you liked this video. It’s definitely one of our favorites 😊 The food here in Chiang Mai is great. Lots of nice restaurants and cafes. If you want to watch Stacia eat bugs, follow us on Instagram and watch our IGTV videos. There is one video from a night market in Krabi and Stacia eats bugs and Durian 😂
Haha... I can’t wait to see the expression on her face. Ryan, you need to man up and get some too. My wife and I enjoyed watching you guys videos very much. 😇🎭😎
Great video as usual. These three temples are really beautiful. Love your video. I could add a bit more info on the forbidden ladies to go into the temple. I'll make it very short. Thai people believe that the period blood of ladies has witchcraft effect. Therefore if the ladies who are on period go into the temple and step across a sacred item that buried beneath, then the sacred item will lose its positive good luck charming protective effect. They can never know who is on period. So the best way is to forbid all ladies to go into places that have a sacred item. This is the shortest version I could explain. Hope it helps. ^_^ BTW my fav temple is Wat Phratat Doi Suthep. It is like a heart of Chiang Mai people. (Chiang Mai is my hometown). 👍😄😃
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed this one. We appreciate the additional information about the women not being able to enter the temples. We love facts 😊
Yes!! I have been reading your latest comments and really love how knowledgeable you are. I so appreciate you sharing this with us too. Glad to have you here on the channel. If you'd like, feel free to type a list of "must try" northern thai foods for our food video! That would be very helpful to hear suggestions from a true local :) cheers
@@ThailandSecret In Southern Indian state Kerala there's a temple called Sabarimala Temple and women are not allowed inside for the same reason. (Though the ban has recently been lifted by the Supreme Court of India)
That's interesting ! So you have included Doi Suthep temple's visit in your itinerary. Great ! Previously, I had to walk up and down the steps. And the Entrance have 2 Nagas (one on the Right and the other on the Left side). Remember, the Batu Caves steps in KL, Malaysia ? It was similar. 1 Btw, you can also buy a Travel Insurance policy. 2 Fyi, towards November to January every year, it is supposed to be the raining (monsoon) season. So, you may like to carry an umbrella. Happy holidays. Cheers
@@DeathByVlog We went for the first time when you had to climb the steps, and trust me being a smoker it was no small feat! Now i ride up lol. Have rang the bells many times up there, must be why we go back so much :) Cheers!
Ouch Stacia! Been there...Done that. I used to run network cable in our attic at work....There's a huge I-Beam that bears my name on it from nearly knocking myself out. I can guarantee you, that that I-Beam I smashed my head on did not budge. I hope you're okay. Great video guys. Sucks these old traditions still remain in effect in this day of age. I guess some countries are afraid of change.
Oh my gosh you got knocked out?!?! That must have been soooo hard. Well, glad you were okay and I am feeling much better as well. Hope you’re having a great weekend so far John ☺️
👍🏼👍🏼Stacia really did her homework!!! Great job! and through Ryan's lens too😃. As for the coins not positively sure but as a local, I think its suppose to be a small donation of some sort just like if you had a pond/fountain where you toss coins and make a wish. Here you pray, make a wish, and stick the coins with the candle wax. Bhuddist monks perhaps use coins to give to the poor or use it for good deeds in the temple.🤔
Thanks for your comments about the coins!!! That makes sense ☺️ We are really happy you enjoyed the video and it’s nice to hear from a local perspective. Cheers!! We can’t wait for this upcoming week btw... if you have any recommendations on what not to miss for the Loy Krathong festival let us know ☺️❤️
Really learned something new by seeing your Vlog. Very impressed with the detail you shared with us out here in RU-vid land. It is a peculiar rule that women are not allowed inside the temples but as you mentioned those who go to other countries are a guest in that country and need to respect the rules even if it seems too narrow by our culture standards. In the US we don't have temples like these in Thailand so again it was an educational experience for me to see these temples. And of course I can't end my post without saying that I felt bad that you hit your head Stacia on that low over hang. I hope the pain of that unfortunate moment for you quickly dissipated. I am just glad that it didn't scratch your beautiful face!
Wish these videos encourage others to travel and write not only their memories for life expand one’s horizon, depth to life, and understand to respect other cultures like yourselves ! Being a Buddhist myself hard to understand why women were not allowed as it is itself contradictory to Buddha’s philosophy but watching you respect that rule was very noble ! ( as foreign travelers take law to hand and seen get kicked out of these counties as respect is highly regarded )
This is such a kind comment, thank you ❤️ I agree with you in not understanding but we always respect the culture we visit. Seen a few of your comments now, where are you from? Happy to have you in the DBVfam 😊😊
Buddhism in Thailand is heavily influenced by hinduism and also traditional animism or folk religion (basically, spirits and black magic and stuff)... outside of Bangkok, you will get these rules and it's because they're more traditional and they believe in certain superstitions passed on through generations. Thais are not completely "Thai", a lot are mon decent, khmer decent and in Chiang Mai Lanna decent and they kept their own customs for the most part. So, you won't experience the same rules in different parts of Thailand. (So the world map is misleading but Thailand is bigger than Sweden and stretches from the canadian border to the mexican border of the us. So it's quite a big country with 60 ethnic groups)
Hi Team - another great release, enjoyed the vid and editing :) Hope you're enjoying Chiang Mai, it's such a city of contrasts from the historic temples, to the mega malls to the cafe culture. PS how is the new camera going? Are you used to it yet? Hope Stacia wasn't concussed from that loud bump at the end ! @khoistar
Hey there!! Great to hear from ya. Yeah, this is really our ideal city, plenty of culture but still a developed infrastructure for modern wants and needs. We LOVE Chiang Mai and can’t wait to get out and explore more into the hills and nature too. New camera is meh haha. I haven’t used it since that day, but we are filming another raw vlog soon so I’ll use it and see 😉 Stacia is feeling much better! Just a day of soreness really, thanks for asking!
DeathByVlog I like your channel so much. I am trying to figure out how you do your broll in pass two days. It is like a magic. If you share how with us we will be happy, please. I think it is because the focal length with a slow motion right?
New subscriber to your channel here! Quick question. Starting at 00:07, what camera are you using in these sequences and are you using a gimball? Thanks and more power to your channel!
Hi! I use three cameras for my broll. Sony A7iii, Sony A7Sii and Sony A5100. I don’t use a gimbal, all shots are handheld. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos. Welcome to the DBVfam! 😊❤️
The next week on November 22 have Loy Krathong festival Hope you enjoy this festival. If you have time, try to go Wat Rong Khun, “The White Temple” in Chiang Rai .The temple is very beautiful. Sorry my English isn’ that good (T-T)
Hi Sakura! Yes, we are actually going there after our Thanksgiving dinner 😉 And the day after we got VIP tickets to the Yi Peng festival too. Really excited for that! Next month we plan on visiting Chiang Rai for a few days and going to see the white temple. It looks amazing ❤️
Thank you for these suggestions!! We are so looking forward to experiencing Loy Krathong and Yi Peng... feeling thankful :) Have a nice weekend, Sakura
Love your productions, very professional, informative very entertaining, and your interaction with each other, My wife and I we loving it. Anyway we are planning to visit Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia etc. We are retire and love to take short trip from a local travel base. Love to use Bangkok or Chiang Mai as a travel base. can you recommend any rental agent or place we can rent for 3 to 6 months or so... Thanks you
Thanks! Glad you and your wife are enjoying all the videos 😊 Check out the Nimmana condominiums in Chiang Mai. Great spot for longer term rentals. Check on AirB&B first 👍🏻
Are you guys also going to be in Chiang Mai for the Loy Krathong and Yee Peng festival? My Wife and I would love to meet you guys, you've encouraged us to make the leap and come to Thailand 🇹🇭.
WONDERFUL. GREAT CINEMATOGRAPHIC SHOTS ESPECIALLY ON THE SILVER( IT LOOKED LIKE MORE ALUMINUM) TEMPLE. I LOVE YOUR EXCITEMENT AND ENTHUSIASM. I WONDER HOW THE PERIOD OF WOMEN THAT WOULD AFFECT THE ENERGY IN THE TEMPLE. WELL, BELIEF IS BELIEF.
