Geezer here.... Tossed out time for combat rounds. Not x seconds. The time it takes for one simple action, like making an attack. Yep magic requires conversion. Beyond that. I track in game time as I have for decades. Hours pass, I note and let the players know. Days pass and I use a calendar. Created for my setting. It really has always been a great opportunity for great games, time. Gaming on.

Crafting magic items and scribing spells seem to take way too long.

Not nearly as bad as the limits for making some spell effects permanent. Casting a spell every day for a year? Ouch.

@@RulesandRulings yeah, not to mention that a lot of those spells also have consumable material costs So if you want to make your own permanent teleportation circle, not only do you have to cast the spell every day for a year, but each casting costs you 50 gold, for a total of 18,250 (assuming a 365 day year) But it’s not just that you need over 18,000 gold, you need over 18,000 gold worth of _materials_ So you have to find places that sell those materials, if your DM is nice, they might let you get them all at once at some kind of magic superstore, but realistically, no place is going to have that much ink and chalk lying around at at one time
