Soil temperature is affected by surface cover (shade), water content, depth, surface configuration, and time of day. Surface soil temperature (when taken) was measured with in infrared thermometer since standard thermometers cannot measure the temperature at the soil-air interface. Analog soil thermometers were used to measure the temperature at 5, 10, 15, and 30 cm.
