The adverts for the game referred to Temtem as a MMO. On Steam it's described as "a massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure." The foundations of the game are as an always online live-service so their intentions are clear. This letter just states that it's OUR fault for misunderstanding them. They are gaslighting us at this point.

I think making it like NoManSky might be ideal as well. Where everyone is launching on a single-player but can connect into online but... It's difficult to do so on offline because they really don't want people to cheat or hack the game. Which I certainly might do as well, just to get a perfect Shiny. For context for why : As I know, it takes a long time to get one of your own, on a perfect stats. I spent 1 year 6 months just to perfect one and I still haven't managed to do so and I played it everyday, for those years. They really don't want players to cheat but they also didn't provide good ways to get a perfect Shiny, by the time I quit.

The Kickstarter does NOT say the scope is not at the MMO scope. It mentions nothing about MMO Lite. It DOES say "Massively Multiplayer" and "Online" MULTIPLE times. Also the fact they decided maling new content for their live service game "wouldnt bring back players" despite that very thing being what players saying is what *would* bring them back and are telling potential new players that is the biggest con about starting TemTem all without actually trying or seemingly even polling their fanbase is ludicrous. Especially when the 2 biggest things that definmade me deice NOT to return and NOT to support anything crema does is 1). No new content on a live service game & no new mons on a monster taming game. and 2.). The absolute Crema had a meltdown, doubled down about it, did a "RU-vidr Quality" apology, lied, continously blame the players for the failures of Crema and TemTem, and findamentally not knowing how to make a sucessful MMO (or MMO-Lite or whatever), how to make a a successful monster tamer game, or how to make a game and game community that gives a rats ass about it's players. Congrats to Crema, not releasing content and alienating fans is definitely how you NOT bring back players. I hope Crema never releases a successful game again. Nobody should support them. 😤

My issues with this post, and Crema as a whole. 1: They claim that they called Temtem an "MMO-lite" from the get-go, but the screenshot they include literally says "Last Update june 25th". Now this could have been there from the start, could have not been. What we can say for sure is that it was at least there on June 25th... Minimum 1 month after the kickstarter went up which means A LOT of people already pledged. 2: They make A LOT of claims of how it's "impossible" for them to make certain changes, improvements, etc. Claims that we have no way of confirming. We have to take them at their words here, which is a privilege Crema has completely thrown away. Not to mention that if they are telling the truth about those claims, why do they also have to throw in the "we want Temtem to not be p2w" reason as to why they don't make DLC when people have already given them ways to work around that. I thought the reason was because it was structurally impossible? 3: They apologize A LOT in this post, but then they don't proceed to do anything the players are asking for. The only thing that they are doing is removing paid cosmetics, but they are also removing more or less all the reasons why they would need to have money coming in (new content). It feels weird to apologize but then don't change anything. 4: Shifting blame, excuses, shifting blame, excuses. They are shifting their blame on other platforms, companies, and people. It's not their fault it got advertised as an MMO, it's their partners. It's not their fault they put the MMO tag on, it's the platforms for not having the tag they would have liked. Crema can never just own up to a mistake, they have to shift blame on others. They have also made up this narrative in their head that "players are asking for infinite content forever" which is completely false. People are asking for a live-service game to keep getting updates, that is completely normal. The issue is that Crema makes updates that people are generally not that interested in. They allocate their resources to stuff that, again, people are not interested in. If after 1.0 Crema put their efforts into making a new island with new Tems instead of whatever the fuck they have been doing they would have seen A LOT more people come back and play, but according to them this is not possible. But then they also refuse to make the game offline. If the game is offline the community could make their own updates to the game and share between each other (you know like the Pokemon community does), but no this goes against what Crema wants as well. Imo this is just more Crema bullshit. They are trying to "clear their name" because they probably realized that they have made such an enemy of the community that it will haunt them for future games. Crema has used up all their goodwill of their players, and it's going to be hard to earn back.

You're spot on. They're trying to make it seem like a problem that was out of their control and not one of their own creating that they're unwilling to manage. Another thing to note is that custom tags can be added in Steam. They could have been marketing it as an MMO-lite this whole time They also have it written out as "Temtem is a massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure." under About This Game. So they're willfully using the wrong term even though they could have been clearer.

@@alexanderfletcher3375 Plus what even is an 'MMO-lite' game? That's a term I have never heard of before and I don't think is a term ANYONE has heard before. If they were trying to make it feel the same to how a rogue-lite is similar but different to a rogue-like in that it has permanent upgrades that stick run-to-run, then TemTem STILL doesn't fit as the only similarities between it and a real MMO is the 'always online' bit a well as seeing everyone that's playing. That's IT. That's the same similarities between an MMO and a MOBA, and that doesn't make MOBA games 'MMO-lites' either. Gonna stop on the "A LOT more people come back and play", they literally said it themselves and is 100% true: People just come back, play the new content then leave again. Not worth spending months or maybe years to create a whole island with new quests, story and Temtem just for SOME to pay for it and then leave again, the game had to be engaging enough to actually have people be interested in playing the thing and Temtem never really pulled off being engaging to most people in the Monster Taming community. Better than microtransactions for cosmetics? Maybe. Making the game actually bigger than it is today? Probably not. (See Wargroove 2, literally like a big content update for Wargroove except it´s a new game, you could count it as a DLC, How it went for them? Horrible, Temtem DLC wouldn´t be any different). Random fanbases these days really wanna believe they are big or important enough, just like F-Zero fans demanding a new game and (some) hating Nintendo actual ingenious attempt with F-Zero 99 because it´s not an actual AAA game when it´s not worth it for Nintendo to make a new one when no one is gonna buy it (2 words: Mario Kart), yes even probably a million is "no one" when speaking about sales, Temtem toxic fans (just like Gym Leader Ed himself said) are the same.

Their statement about tags on Steam is also bull. You can add a custom tag so they could have simply added their own tag saying MMO-lite. Instead, they went with the better marketing strategy: picking a popular genre they could get away with claiming their game was until players called them out for it.

It’s important to know that they are only doing this to salvage sales on their new game because they are staring down the barrel of financial disaster. And they keep saying that they won’t keep supporting the MMO so buy Swarm please. And yet they still don’t get no one wants that. I was one of the stress test players back on the discord when the game was still early access. I remember a moment when the Crema Team had to to take the server down because they had being testing and fixing the sever for 12 hours straight and had to eat take out in the office. You could really feel the excitement and joy in the team via their message's on discord to the community on how the test was going so far and how happy they where with the player base being here with them. I feel I need to bring this up to show how strong the community felt about the Crema Team as a whole and that, THIS LETTER IS NOT from the "Crema Team" but reads as if straight from the CEO's mouth and it comes of like he hates TemTem community just like he proved before. More then half this letter has a question about new content for the game that's followed with "we can't do this because it cost money." just read how many times "technical debt" comes up when asked about new content. It just reads like he HATES having to put more money into this game that he views as complete his "MMO Lite" to the point where you question if the game had made the cash would he be so mad at the fans? would the technical debt matter as much then? I think the part that piss me of personally are the parts where when ask why not add new islands and Tems to this "MMO Lite" game we get "We didn’t create Temtem with the idea of expanding its limits forever." and "Anything you add to a game that wasn’t included in its bases, and anything you change on the go, adds to the technical debt of said game." like it's our fault that we ask for new content in a online game "The Crema of the past, who designed Temtem to be a finite, yet endlessly enjoyable online world, and this prevents us from being able to expand its limits to the points where everyone would be satisfied." What is prevents you form expanding your limits? it's $ btw as that's all the CEO cares about in this letter proves.

It's funny how they are gaslighting people to shift the blame from themselves to the community and some people are already falling for that, this statement just proves two things: incompetence and mismanagement. They gave a lot of excuses which people suggested alternatives in the past two years and even some devs acknowledged but they still will never try to implement, people said since 1.0 that they would drop the game on the instant they finished the kickstarter goals, which they are doing, all of the "content" that they point out it was added into the game are minor content that were mostly released on 1.0, which should also have all the Kickstarter goals to begin with, the game was basically in a early access until the last Kickstarter goal drops. They are talking like if we should drop on our knees and be grateful that they did their jobs as a game studio that used the "massively multiplayer creature-collection adventure" marketing a lot to justify a lot of things but didn't fulfill anything related to a live-service game, in their own statement they contradict themselves and is just basically a huge excuse of "We are dropping the game because we want to make a sequel and we probably can make more money with the sequel". DLC is pay-to-win? People suggested ways around that. Expansion don't make sense with the lore? And what about the sequel them, how would this make sense with lore? And finally they made this narrative in their head that "players are asking for infinite content forever" or that "players would not come back with new Tems/Islands and would not be worth to develop them" which is completely false. Their own metrics don't make sense since while they are doing nothing there is less and less player retention, and the 1.0 showed that new content will bring a lot of new players.

I am sorry. As a person who was around during the kickstarter, various alphas, etc. The narrative for an MMO lite was largerly scoffed at by the devs. Before the alpha was done, there were pages of post from the team promising the moon. Doing so just to justify the high price point future non alpha/beta player would have to pay on launch. Many players felt if the game was considered just a solo game with few online features then a smaller price point would be fine. Everyone wins. They made it clear that new big island content would be a regular thing and would justify the higher initial price point and the battle pass. They listed feature after feature after feature that was coming. Most of which was never delivered. The player base largely, and rightfully, felt scammed and left. They saw few were playing and fewer were liking. So they hard pivoted away to different project. Make. No. Mistake. Crema is a small Spanish company that wants AAA prices and spending from its players. They, in return, are a small indie team and have no ability to produce the amount of content they are charging for. 20 Dollars worth of barely AA content for 60-70$ plus 10-15$ battle pass. No. I am done with Crema.

So just think about it this way what would have been added outside the kickstarter goals & demands from the community? an empty ass game with super long grinds. past 1.0 when everything was supposed to be dropped..... there would be nothing. you cannot say ohh we did all this stuff you required, its cause of these add ons that we are unable to make more content. they were literally ok with the game updates being delayed over & over cause it just let them string along players for longer allowing their mtx store to keep going.... they never planned to create content past the kickstarter goals in the first place, but kept the mmo tag & kept telling players the mtx funds were being put back into the game....well apparently not...cause the game is not getting any sort of new content & is being dropped lmfao they have 0 respect

Exactly what I always point out, the 1.0 was the biggest bait to new players, the game didn't had all the content, just the story was completed, at the maximum the kickstarter content should be delivered at 1.2 or 1.3. People also never asked for infinite content, just better endgame and some PvE content, even if it would take time to be released, they are trying to gaslight everyone and sadly they are getting some people.

0:35 part of the reason why I HAVEN'T considered coming back is because there are no large scale updates. 1:50 "Is Temtem an MMO", I'd say barely, they forced MMO grind, etc., onto a single player game given their unwillingness to do any real major updates be they paid expansions, or whatever, this has particularly harmed the breeding system, as you have both massive costs to gurantee the highest stats from each parent stay AND the fertility system, and that particular combination as someone who enjoys breeding and raising monsters in these types of games, hurts the system a ton, either the costs would need to be reduced or the fertility system would need to be reworked. 5:32 Unless the DLC Tems are wildly more powerful then the base game ones this would be a non-issue, TemTem is already pretty lethal for a Monster Tamer, I'd argue in some cases like when fighting General X it's harder then a SMT/Persona game, and that series could be said to be pretty infamous for it's highly lethal bosses, there are ways to keep the playing field even such as having an option to disable DLC Tems if one player doesn't have the DLC or simply just balancing them with the fact in mind that they'd also be facing base game Tems, it doesn't have to perfect it just has to be good enough to keep the playing field relatively even. 9:31 Making premnium content more accessable a well as previous battle passes accessable is a good change even if they didn't choose to remove MTX. Overall however their statement feels half hearted and like they are trying to shift a ton of the blame off themselves, with multiple narratives being spun, so I'm gonna take what they say with an entire quarry's worth of salt.

Big time agree to all of what you said. You could also even have some matchmaking option to filter what kind of content you wanna allow in fights. Don't want any Tems, Items or moves from DLC? Check a box or two about content to filter out and exclude for the fight and your good. And the fact they're so concerned about that balance and meta, which only matters in PvP, shows they still don't understand which areas of the game the fanbase wants more love and attention. Their PvP just isn't that popular, no matter wh!t TemTem wants it to be, and the biggest reason the PvP content got much attention was because it was the only new content they were feeding us and they were force-feeding.

I really wanted to try TemTem when it was new and never got around to it. If the drama can subside and cease I may still give it a try though I'm not sure if there would even be many players. As long as the game doesn't require other players to finish whatever story there may be (effectively being single-player story) I would probably still play it. I never managed to get into the game. The level design was pretty bad with the routes feeling barren and long for no real reason. The grind was horrid, and the combat got stale fast. This being said, it sucks to see that the devs don't really care about this game- or that's at least the impression I got from this statement. They basically seem as if they were chasing a trend, marketing the game as an MMO until they decided that an MMO was too much money and work to actually make. They effectively admit in the statement that TemTem was basically a way for them to get money for their next ventures, and nothing more. That it was them making money in order to help fund a bullet heaven game that no one wanted, or the next game that's being worked on at the moment. This is probably the last time I'll purchase a Crema developed game. The devs really aren't honest with the community, and its been this way since the start. Especially given how they handled the discord and the bans of some of their members.

Idk for me on the one hand I'd really like to give Crema the benefit of the doubt and trust that they really have learned and regret their previous interaction with the community. I think Temtem did truly have a lot of squandered potential and there were a lot of good ideas involved in the making of Temtem. I'd like to believe that Crema has what it takes to create a wonderful gaming experience. But I just don't like what I'm seeing from Crema and I don't think that I can give them the benefit of the doubt. Pokemon had earned it's status before it started burning me, but Temtem hasn't. What I see was a company cashing in on a golden opportunity when Pokemon was struggling and making bold promises then backpedaling on promises and after overreacting and lashing out at its own community. Not only that but they've made it very clear that the only thing that matters in the end for Temtem is what their vision was for the game which is just...a weird vision with weird endgoals. As far as they're concerned Temtem is done and they never intended to really support it beyond this point, but added paid features to make the illusion that actual future support could be possible. I don't know anything about the costs accrued versus the work they have to do when providing new content or what kind of profits they are making, but I know that the model they have is just not a good model. They come out the gate with an MMO that they can't afford to run and then reclassify it as an MMO-lite after they had already received a good chunk of funding. It's a bad look. Maybe they should have started with the smaller games first and worked up to an actual MMO or this grand vision that they apparently have for Temtem 2. But we all know they would not have made the money we know they made had they not cashed in with big promises while Pokemon was really struggling and people were not as aware of alternative options and less really good options existed. There's literally no reason for me to play Temtem when I can just play Cassette Beasts for half the price and not feel like I'm being annoying to a developer because I have no complaints about Cassette Beasts other than where has it been all my life and why isn't there more of it? Crema REALLY screwed themselves with those passive aggressive (mostly aggressive) remarks from the CEO. Backpedaling is never a good look. Again, I fully believe the community can be toxic as all get out, but you don't see Disc Creatures, Cassette Beasts, Monster Sanctuary, etc get flak because they're actually good well made games that understand what they're trying to accomplish and who they're trying to appeal to. Crema doesn't understand the community and can't concisely convey what they want to accomplish. Communication is just really off. The thing that really gets me is that Temtem would be pretty good as an offline story experience with the postgame content if they cut down the grind. They could add online co-op if they want as that would help it stand out. 100 hrs of content is nothing to scoff at. It's unfortunate that 50 of those hours are spent doing boring grindy activities that don't feel rewarding enough. If Crema would just listen to what people are saying they could have made a good game. Instead they've just made a big confused mess out of something that had a lot of potential. Why should I continue to support them if they have no intention of providing an experience that I am interested in?

If they do remove all microtransactions, that removes all my expectations for them. The game could be left as it is, and it would just be a bad game. It's ok to make a bad game, but if you charge insane prices for cosmetics and have a battlepass, I expect you to constantly add and improve the game. Without those, I have no expectations. However, I believe the only reason they are removing them now is because the backlash was too much, and the whales were already dwindling. They admit the servers are cheap. This feedback on the fomos shop isn't new, but they decided its important enough now to act on it.... curious. Additional note: they claim Swarm was not originally meant to be an arcade game, and I believed them. But now that they claim they will have a lighter version in the arcade bar because "they started to believe the accusations themselves" and it will like be out in a patch or two... curious.

What we got was an always online/micro-transaction filled/currency starved creature collector with an surprising amount of focus on pvp and not much else once you got to end game. But remember. Its the communities fault for consuming content too quick and not sticking around for pvp “lazy excuses for content” that takes insane grind just to get started and so few ways to make pansuns that it’s STILL an extremely sore spot amongst fans. Embarrassed doesn’t even begin to describe how this CEO deserves to feel.

Crema is only doing this because if they don't, they're toast. Their new games will sell poorly and the studio will shut down. Aside from that, I have to say that Crema never wanted feedback to begin with. The devs constantly talked about how their vision of the game was set in stone and once everything was in place it would be great. This obviously didn't go as they planned. They never wanted any critical discussion at all really, as evidenced by countless social bans on multiple platforms (myself included). If you weren't a yes-man you were banned. You couldn't use their forums, steam discussions, discord, or in-game chat. You literally couldn't do anything but leave a review, move on, or both. The community became toxic and exclusionary by design and led players away in droves. Remember, this was a kickstarter game funded by the players, released as EA (used for feedback from the community before full release), and even then the devs were way up on their high horse telling everyone that they don't know shit about shit in PR speak. ALSO Them saying that adding new content to their game is too much, but making two totally new games is not??? What? And good on your for spotting that their dlc excuse doesn't fly when the pvp mode could easily allow anyone to use the tems without actually owning them in the game. Something must be seriously wrong with their code to not be able to add onto it at all. I think they saw TemTem as a sinking ship and decided to just let it slowly die while they worked on other things, stringing their playerbase along. Please don't get it twisted, this statement isn't them taking accountability. Crema had the MMO tag for four years despite, even back before full release, a metric ton of players saying they should change the tags. I was one of those people. It literally took their community fizzling out entirely for them to do anything because if they want to sell their new game(s) then this statement had to happen. It's a pitiful last-ditch effort to rake up sympathy and praise for doing what they should have done from the very beginning.

The story of this game is tragic. I admit I am not a big fan of MMO’s but I also would have loved an MMO in the vein of pokemon. I was ready to buy this game last year only for several people to tell me not to buy it in spite of the positive reviews I was seeing. Keeping up with the news about this game really hits it home that it’s been a massive disappointment for so many. What a shame…..

The game is fine. The problem is that the devs expected too much from the playerbase, offered too little to the playerbase, and then got huffy when the playerbase called them out on it.

As someone who plans to make their own Pokémon style game, this really upsets me. I feel like the fans are going to have so much trouble trusting my game’s kickstarter.

I will not buy any of their future games let alone other possible products or even consider if they were a selective handfuld of studios/devs left in the world because this is just disgusting and outrageously disappointing behavior

Lost my support for life. No Mans Sky has provided free support for 5+ years, no cost. The “cost” excuse is BS.

I really really wanted to love Temtem. It's just such a slog to get through, every battle is hard and there are random trainers every five feet. That wouldn't be so bad but paired with all the backtracking and how expensive items are just getting through the story is not a fun time. The battle system itself is fun and the monsters are cute and interesting, I just wish it didn't have this grindy slog attached to it. Playing Temtem just makes me want to play Pokemon instead, at least with Pokemon I know I'll have fun. Which is frustrating, I know there's a good game here, but I don't have the patience to beat my head against this wall when I can play something consistently fun instead.

The battle pass was 100% the reason I’ve never even looked at the game excited to finally check it out. Full price games don’t need battle passes.

Their definition of an MMO is way different than mine. Their way makes it sound like most games would be an mmo
