Pokemon had DECADES to make an MMO. I have notebooks since 2001 with ideas for how they could have done it. Now someone else decided to give it to us and I hope its a massive hit.
Exactly what i already said to like 5 people. Pokemon is just lacking because there is literally ZERO competition. If temtem gets big, pokemon will have to step up their game.
@@SONIC1256 Keep in mind that this is an early access game that is still in the alpha stage (its explicitly said on the store page and in game). There will be issues until the game is finished, polished, and officially released.
I can't believe there haven't been more Pokemon style games by now. It should be a whole genre. The game formula just works, and sadly Gamefreak barely iterates on it. Glad to see someone else doing it.
Digimon still exists. It's not doing as well as Pokemon and may even fall behind TemTem, but it's survived. Most of the competitors had a habit of flying too far under the radar in spite of their own individual qualities.
@@mariofan1ish Digimon felt more like a copy of the anime. The toys and games came as secondary merch. I wonder why there's no AAA game developer working on their own take on the video game formula.
@@ERoBB1 Because it isn't a genre with mass appeal. Digimon is either a fairly generic JRPG with a great evolution system, or a Virtual Pet you can battle with depending on the title. And with the Tamagotchi craze well and truly behind us, the odds of seeing a AAA game with that formula as the focus is basically zero.
I agree it could be a genre, but this game is literally a copy of pokemon with a few slight changes in the battle mechanics. I do however have temtem, and I like it.
@@sddlol19 You're pretty uneducated on this huh? Digimon is a direct ripoff of Tamagotchi, literally just the "boy" version of it...educate yourself before making a dumb comment.
@@iPostPwnedU It is still a Pokemon rip-off. I know that you are salty because it is true. I never said that they are bad franchises or that being a rip-off is a bad thing, tho.
"Losing my patience with Pokemon" is a good way to describe it. I personally love "Knock-Offs", because you know... if the knock-Off does it better than the original than who's fault is it really? It's how genres evolve.
Carlos Glover it’s not only how genres evolve, it’s also how some come to existence. Pokemon isn’t even a genre, it’s just a game title under adventure and fantasy. It’s like how battle royale was under shooter till it blew up into its own genre, and not just a subclass. I hope this is what’s going on here where games like this and pokemon will hold their own genre
There is no shame into being a "knockoff" of a game that doesnt exists in the platform you are releasing your game. They are filling a niche in the PC market for Pokémon fans.
@@dariosanchez2557 What do you mean? People won't spend +300 bucks on a switch JUST to play a Pokemon game. You're the one that makes no sense here. This game is fantastic, filling as said before a potentially big hole in the market and imo it will do very well.
Absolutely isn't, I fucking died to random ass Jimmy trainer with his stupid looking floating ball of grass and unicorn with clouds I love this game so much, Highly raccomend it
Me: "Oh God I wonder what the comments are going to be like" *reads the massive support the game is getting from pokemon fans* Me: "I am so proud of this community"
well I saw this coming since pokemon sw/sh is just a disaster and scamming at its finest, 16 bucks for pkm home and then dlc to get 200+ pkm, not to mention 5 bucks for pkm bank and 20 for switchonline, that all adds up and is just gamefreak/nintendo samming their users by cutting things which were part of the old games to get more money honestly I hope there will be more games like this coming out or even a mmorpg, because that is something a lot of pkm fans wanted for decades
Why every game from my country has to be a copy of something? Seriously they get praise but they are just "indie version of a Japanese title" with a slightly different coat of paint and names of mechanics changed while still working the same
This would be so much cooler if it went for a darker art style though. Instead of tamers there would be witches and occultists. Instead of pokeballs or cards there would be summon circles. Instead of cute monsters there would be demons, angelic entities, lovecraftian beings, undead animals, etc . World would be gritty and apocalyptic, maybe something like Bloodborne or Dark Souls 3. Imagine how awesome would that be.
@@jaire4061 No joke, the reason that I could buy *1 game* and potentially get the same chance as everyone to get all the monsters was my largest selling point. It's also widely accessible through steam, got some really good mechanics, sounds and animations for indie and kinda fell in love with the creatures designs. Not all of them ofc. but for what it's worth, the art style is *very* congruent / strung together well in a way, some Pokémon Episodes would really fail me. I can see the set of starter and box art Pokémon and think "oh this game is probably not getting me attached too much". While Temtem has some I'd say aesthetically weaker looking starters, the game is not about that journey from the start with your starter but more about your team composition and strategy you can come up with. Your starter is not a one off either (at least in the near future) you can capture them at a later point!
@@meemo5779 There's a difference between being passionate and critical of something you love, and being naive. Some of us have played since gen 1, and it's easy to notice the drop in quality with each console jump for SOME cases (Diamond and Pearl was wonderful.). On that note, I disliked quite a bit about Sun/Moon, and Sw/Sh was VERY lacking outside of great ideas with the Wild Area and the core mechanics. However, I feel the content in the DLC is doing the game, and Game Freak justice. Seems like it's bringing in almost everything the current gen was lacking, and thus made the games (hopefully) feel like less a rushed knockoff. And no, I don't just mean the # of Pokemon, that's not really my concern. The Pokemon polish is there, but it's clear by this DLC the devs knew what the game needed, and thankfully gave it without requiring a $60 SHINING SWORD version. Temtem seems like it could be a fun time sink while waiting for the DLC. I'm hoping it works out well and has plenty of support in the future!

They waited so long that Pokemon fans already made their own, PokeMMO and Pokemon Revolution for example, but the difference is that if TemTem does well, it will force Pokemon to stop being complacent.

It’s true I bought it and it doesn’t run 80% of the time but when it did run it was blocky and laggy Af. So I got a refund. Maybe one day it’ll be worth it
Early access is generally a huge turn off for me, specifically for two reasons: one is because the last ea game I bought was Ark and that wouldn’t work for me at all; the second reason I look at a lot of these kinds of games and see that a large amount of them have been in ea for much longer than they really should have.
@@kodabeer7483 quality is irrelevant, whether you think is a good or a bad game takes no place in what genre a game belongs to, there are good RPGs bad RPGs, good first person shooters and bad first person shooters, pokémon is a turn based monster collecting RPG, just like Temtem, Persona (to an extent), Ni no Kuni and Yokai Watch, if you remove the subgenres and leave it as RPG, you are implying it is also the same as things like Chrono trigger, the Witcher games, Skyrim, Disgaea, DQ, Fire emblem and whatnot. TL;DR: the genre is there for clarity of mechanics not as a critic score.
I'm exclusively playing Temtem with my fiance (so co-op from the very first battle after the first battle with Max) and it plays pretty smooth. The only issue we ran into is going through NPC text too fast. It really feels like the game has been made to go through with a friend and it's really really fun!
@@return2monke420 the only thing I have an issue with is just not being able to follow him around and vice versa because the sync is so off. Like he could be right in front of me on my screen but be halfway across the map. But as far as connection, no no lag or nothing
I've finished all the content that's out for Temtem and I have to say this game is amazing. It is so much more tactical then Pokemon to the point that depending on the 2 types of Temtem you have out Will increase the power of some moves.
@@CeruleanStallion I wasn't much of a fan of doubles in Pokemon, but Temtem has managed to make it more interesting. Since the game is made like this, we have lots of techniques(moves) with team strategy in mind and even synergies (some moves can get more powerful and have different effects depending on which type the Temtem it's sided with has). In general, I'd say it has more depth and will result in better replayability than Pokemon.
I absolutely love this game, I personally was not expecting to enjoy the temtem designs but they have really impressed me. Just loving how refreshing the game feels, stamina system and everything
I alredy paid for the game to play it early acess cause i couldent wait another year for a completely New pokemon experience, i dont regret it cause the servers work execellentely now, it was only really bad during early acess Day
Its always horrible on the first day of mmo’s tho. Thats triple aaa titles included. Plus they were being ddosed as well. So the first day shouldnt even really be discussed because I haven’t had a single issue on the servers yet
This game took me back to when I was young and played pokemon for the first time. The joy I've lost over the years of playing pokemon has been found in the first 5 minutes I started this game.
Confirmed to be coming to Switch and other consoles after leaving Early Access next year, and judging by its ability to run well even on potato PCs it'll run great on even the Switch.
In the trailer there was a Animal Crossing style house being designed. I wonder what that was because I really like the idea of actually customizing your home in the world of temtem and making it a game like Animal Crossing and Pokemon combined. Also, it's an MMO! YES!
Kinda reminds me of how Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire had customizable secret bases. Was always kinda bummed they never brought that back, so I'm looking forward to Temtem houses.
I'm looking forward to getting this for the switch. Pokemon's been making some very unpopular decisions, both lately and overall, and while they may not directly affect me as a casual player I don't feel good supporting them for those that these issues are important with. Pokemon's been in some dire need of competition for a while now and I love the graphics and design choices for this game. I also find level grinding fun which from the sound of it will help me just fine.
I've been following temtem since it's Kickstarter days. It's a game I've really been looking forward to. As it surpassed all of its backer goals, I knew it would be something special. I think this game pays a wonderful homage to the gamefreak franchise. That being said, Im really excited for some variety in this style of gameplay.
The stamina system reminds me of Nexomon, another pokemon-esque game which I appreciate. (The second nexomon is better than the first imo.) Also, it's RARE you give such a glowing review for a game! 2 years later now and it's probably even better!
I think it's solid. But I think the hype is....a bit unrealistic at the moment. It's a good game, I've been pretty hooked - but at present in this alpha stage it's not different enough from Pokémon at all to warrant people who are already jaded with that franchise drooling over it and being melodramatic mostly because of Pokémon's failures rather than temtems successes. In the future, when it actually becomes an MMO - because apart from seeing other players right now it isn't particularly one, it has a lot of promise though for sure. The stamina mechanic is refreshingly tactical, and I like how all the bosses in the game are feeling tough enough to deserve their reputations. The designs don't have the same charm as Pokémon admittedly, but some of them have grown on me - like new pokemon generations I just need time to get acquainted with them. I just hate how most evolutions are just "get bigger". Pokémon showed a lot more nuance and imagination with its evolutions. Setting aside any Pokémon comparisons, it's a fine addition to the monster catcher genre, but unless you're a huge fan of those games to start with it might be worth waiting a few months
Its way better than Pokemon. If you ever tried Temtem, and really did try... You are a nut if you go back to Pokemon, seriously. Pokemon is easy and annoying. Temtem's solutions are simply more modern and better, easy life compared to Pokemon, but still more difficult. Pokemon isn't even really worth a mention in the genre of pocket monster catchers..
TemTem doesn’t really solve the main problems of Pokémon, which is outdated 90s turn based gaming and “take turn” battle animations. Everyone criticized SwSh for “obviously being a 3DS game on Switch,” but somehow no one says TemTem is “just a 3DS game on PC.” Ppl say “TemTem is harder,” but for these types of games, harder = grindier = not fun. And yes - I know GameFreak has millions of dollars compared to TemTem developers and in most ways they have no excuses.
This is more of a Beta. They already had an Alpha for Backers and an open stress test before Early Access. All the base features and functionality are implemented, and now it's basically just adding content and fixing bugs.
@@japzone early access means alpha to me on steam just due to the majority of the early access games feeling like alphas rather than betas. But yeah this game already has the polish of a half finished server beta.
I think that this is the first time I've heard my name pronounced right, on the first try, by a non-Greek speaker :D So shout-outs for that, thank you :)
It isnt that I'm tired of Pokemon. It is that they decided to do what many other big companies are doing. Cashing in on loyal fans by giving us an unfinished game, then making us pay even more for content they purposely left out as downloadable "additions". So I'm more than willing to give this game a shot. To me, it looks quite beautiful and the art style is simple enough to make my kids want to play it also. The mechanics are a good mix of difficulty for hardened grinders while being just forgiving enough that a younger player need not stress over constantly being stuck. While this is an early access title, I look forward to a complete game, and at 35 dollars, well it's the same price if I just went and bought the dlcs for the new pokemon game anyway.
@@BowmansWorld mmmmm i sure do love dry af battles and shitty battle mechanics.... the onlything challenging about a jrpg shouldnt be its multiplayer.........
Belias in what way is it a ripoff? It’s kind of annoying how a game that has a similar capturing concept because of inspiration, but entirely different graphics and gameplay is called a ripoff
@@eshryo its the same capture mechanic, the same random encounter type in wild gras areas, the same 2 vs 2 concept, the same 4 moves to choose from, the evolutions by leveling up (unlike other monster collecting games like digimon). on top of that, they use fakemon designs made by pokemon fan artists who clearly had pokemon in mind. its even the same ''super effective'' and element/type kind of thing, where most games usually only have 3-6 elements.
@@BeliasLP dude you're trying to hard to convince yourself that this game is not good. It does so much shit better then Pokémon that at this point we could call the next Pokémon temtem ripoff
Belias 1. Capturing enemies/monsters isn’t an idea that Pokemon came up with. 2. Random encounters have been a thing way way way before Pokemon and it’s extremely common in games. 3. Pokemon doesn’t use 2v2 combat and they weren’t the first to have 2v2 battles, it’s actually pretty rare that you’ll even do a 2v2 battle besides the game forcing you to do it maybe once in the story. 4. Once again choosing 4 moves in a rpg isn’t a Pokemon thing and has existed way before Pokemon, not to mention being in multiple other games not even in the same genre as Pokemon. 5. Evolution by leveling up is literally in EVERY rpg that exists and AGAIN was something that existed before Pokemon. It’s an RPG so of course leveling up through battles is s thing. 6. The you’re taking these “fakemons” out of context because it was a fan who bought the rights to the design then payed their gofundme to get it put into the game. This wasn’t there decision and they were basically obligated to add it at that point and it was only one as far as I’m aware. 7. The concept of being super effective and type advantages once again wasn’t something that Pokemon created and its *very* common in videos. It’s actually insanely common. The only type that’s even remotely close to Pokemon is fighting. They don’t have nearly as many types as Pokemon and it seems like its fully fleshed out for balance unlike Pokemon. Type effectiveness doesn’t even work in the same way as Pokemon. The game is inspired by Pokemon and has the same collectable monster concept but that’s not something unique to Pokemon and they didn’t even do it first. The rest are extremely common in games, especially RPGs and the stuff that isn’t common is meant for differentiation and balancing.
As somebody who has practically zero experience with pokemon this game is a cool intro into the monster catching genre. It's almost daunting trying to get into pokemon considering how many games and pokemon there are now. This is a nice way to get a fresh start into a genre with a game that hasn't been around forever. The fact it's an mmo is a plus to me. I havent owned many Nintendo consoles so it's cool to see it on pc as well. So far I've enjoyed it and hopefully once its fully released it really takes off.
I really hate how people think of Pokémon as the only monster catching game there can be. If there’s another game that’s of the same genre like temtem, then it’s a rip off. That’s stupid, Pokémon’s such a powerhouse and has been around for so long, that that’s all people associate the monster collection genre with. These games aren’t just a fan game rip off, they’re legitimate games. Pokémon needs some competition.
As a Pokemon devotee, seeing Temtem is like seeing someone make the same cake as you but doing it according to what 'others' want You are proud of your cake, after all 'you' made it, you followed the recipe and it looks nice, but at the same time it looks nice because that's how it's supposed to look according to what someone told you to do it that way. It's not for you, its for someone else, and you got no say in how it was done, only told to do it and do it this way so that the customer can be content with what they got. It looks how its supposed to look, it tastes how its supposed to taste, and that's the end of it. Then you see the guy next to you making a gorgeous cake with twists and zings on it, it looks 'beautiful' in a weird way and the guy who made it simply hands it off to a group of kids who are excited to see it. They are chowing down on it and loving it despite how it looks because its what they all love and wanted in the cake. It wasn't how they expected it to taste, it doesn't look like how they each envisioned it, but they still love it because its everything they all wanted and more. you look at your own cake, and suddenly it looks less impressive because its 'plain' and 'standard', and wish you could have done more for it to make it stand out, but you can't because this is not what 'you' want its what someone else wants. Pokemon has become that, its a standard formula, its a boring story, there's little innovation and 'evolution', we get the same boring story, the same boring characters, the same old cake. This generation's biggest hype is 'a new camera feature', whooopiedoo. Here at Temtem, we have a big MASSIVE open world environment, its a BRAND NEW WORLD that begs to be explored, it looks like i can get lost and have my own grand adventure, make my own story, in just 'one tiny spot'. the distance between each 'location' or town looks huge, and the creatures are 'okay' but they have their own charm, and because the team is talking to its community they may even take fanmade ideas and turn them into real creatures. They have features we've been begging GF to keep, like Pokemon following us, imagine if temtem lets us 'ride' bigger Temtems as mounts because they like/trust us? On the one hand, a standard chocolate cake, on the other a chocolate cake with strawberry frosting mixed with lemon and sprinkled with rainbow sprinkles and for some reason a carrot standing up and the cake is in the shape of a dinosaur
TemTem looks interesting. The art style is a bit off-putting for me. I hope it manages to have the characters not look like youtube children’s animations.
Then you obviously don’t like the Pokémon games, a shame. Behind those childish animations and characters there’s a good story. Maybe you’ll give temtemna chance despite your taste, might surprise you.
I've played this game for about 100 hours now. I love it. There are some bugs where it's early release, but they are doing well at fixing them. I can hardly wait for the rest of the game to release. 💕
He said bird types but the only bird type I encountered that has a duck noise was Saipat. Now SAI PAT is funny because SAI is the dagger it holds and PAT is a shortened version for the spanish word for Duck. So its name is literally SAIDUCK. Best game ever made.
Looks promising, not a fan of early access myself though because I tend to go through content very quickly. Personally I'm waiting for the full release!
also as a side note, it seems the games equivalent to IV's from pokemon are not hidden and shown, letting you see them for each temtem at any time even right after you catch them
I’ve been loyal to Pokémon for most of my life but this game looks amazing and if playing online on steam for this game is free unlike Nintendo games at the moment, and if the developers can fix the crashing issues before release than I’m 100% getting the game and, in time, I truly believe it could give Pokémon a run for its money!
Pokemon : Design , size of a roster , nostagia Digimon : Freedom in Evolution system and Fusion Persona : Engaging high risk high reward gameplay and compelling storyline Temtem Story : pokemonly generic but more interesting npc dialogue Roster : still not much Design : .....it's ok Combat : -no RNG (no accuracy, no random hit move type , no chance of special effect) some move have a special effect IF the condition are met Example : Smazee Use move > Show off > effect : increase own attack 1 stage > Synegy effect with fighter type allie get Vigor status effect for 3 turn(Half stamina use in skill) > Trait triggered when Smazee get status effect > Fever rush increase own attack 1 stage this is 1 move that do 3 things in 1 turn and I'm impressed
I really hope nintendo see this and start thinking new. Wish they would make a pokemon game that are for adults/youth and not kids. I am 29 now and would REALLY like a game that arnt holding your hand.
I mean it’s a game for kids so I don’t see them doing that especially since they’re getting more go players they have to teach them how to play a real Pokémon game
Idc if it's a pokemon knock off. Hell, I aspire it to be one! The brand name Pokemon is Shite lately. For games to innovate, they need competition. TEMTEM can be that reason!
I will say one super important thing which wasnt mentioned is that while coop is possible, it also means that you only get exp on one of your temtems at a time, which seems like quite a big punishment just for wanting to play coop, they also seem to encourage various temtem uses but makes getting exp quite a pain, so i really hope that is gonna be fixed later, but regardless if you plan on playing COOP just be aware that you will have less higher level temtems which doesnt matter if you keep cooping, but if you only plan on playing it every so often its a major detriment.
Friend mentioned it and honestly... I'm very pleasantly surprised. It's a combination of Digimon and Pokemon for me with potential for a lot of growth IF they don't fall into the company trap so many find. Worth the support in my opinion though.
So excited for the Switch release. So far the only (good) MMO on Switch is DC Universe and that one just isn’t for me, DQ10 isn’t localized and Onigiri and Elemental Knights R are both trash. So excited for this, looks very promising
One thing I don't hear too many people mention is that this game has pretty much no RNG when it comes to battles; no critical hits, no missing hits, no moves that have an effect that only procs sometimes like flinching or status conditions (there are moves that inflict status conditions with certainty though), so every move will do exactly the same thing every time. Personally I think this makes the competitive side a lot less tedious and I'm looking forward to seeing some of the strategies that people way smarter than I am can come up with
I’m incredibly excited and optimistic for TemTem and have been following it for about a year now. Still I feel like I’m going to wait a couple months before picking it up so that they can smooth out some of the rough edges and add more interesting TemTem.
chat was removed for the early access while they work on other stuff cloths prices are bugged a guild system will come at some point this will come to all consoles after EA
