My father did 38 trips up there over 30 years he never filtered the water. It scared the hell out of me every time I went with him. Never got sick one time.

38 Trips, oh man am I jealous! I'm onboard with you on that one, we hardly bother filtering water anymore if we don't have to. Good to have something in an emergency though.

Most people say a Silky Saw is better than the bucksaw if you get the correct model. You can search comparison videos. The people who know how to use it cut twice as fast as the bucksaw.

@mattwinthewoods

Hey Brandon. All I can say more about the mosquito net is you should get one. Just got out of the woods yesterday and we used that thing almost every night out of six. It really is a game changer. The saw too, used everyday and love it. Both things are so lightweight and useful, it really pays off to have them as a part of your gear kit.

Hatchets are the worst thing to bring to the BWCA. Using a hatchet increases chances for injury. I have seen too many people get hurt using hatchets! Watch alone and you will see people hurting themselves with hatchets.
@mattwinthewoods
@mattwinthewoods 2 года назад
I agree without the proper care a hatchet can be dangerous, but if you take precautions and use it responsibly it can be a valuable asset while camping. I really enjoy the show Alone too! What do you use in place of a hatchet?

@mattwinthewoods
@mattwinthewoods 2 года назад
It's called a DT Fat by Rapala. You'll want the top water one, not a deep diver. Just cast it towards shore and close the bail so that the lure kicks out and doesn't get tangled in the fishing line. Lots of fish over the years on this lure. Cheers!

@@arthurbrumagem3844bingo. A saw and a good sized knife to baton wood are all that’s need in the bwca, your not staying anywhere long enough to need to process that much wood.
@grahamrowe6278
@grahamrowe6278 Год назад
No, you don't need a multitool... you likely already have the bits and need not spend all that money. If you really need pliers and 5" Vice Grip will do. Yes, put your money into box saw, or quality folding puring saw. No, you don't need an axe... select your wood according to your needs and split with the 'quality and approprately size' bush knife. You can live without a hammock. Eye plugs, yes. Partition bag, handy, but whatever. There is no definitive fishing lure, just take a recommended share of reliable ones... and know how to fish them effectively. Bug net is already part of your tent ...you selected the right tent? (Don't go in bug season!). No, you don't any purification kit... you made a fire, you have pans! Save time? What are you doing carry there? Time is what you've got. Less you carry the easier and more enjoyable it gets. Some people got money burning a hole in their pocket though.

@@mattwinthewoods And at this point in the comments Matt there are some interesting points made. Having travelled lightweight in various formats, I have learned to shed trinketry. There are many 'nice things that could be helpful'... even essential during certain seasons. But for me in the BW, sooner rather that later you are going to have to pick it all up and cart it down a portage ...where the GAME CHANGER is not having to bear the weight of something only you might use. Good posting Matt, as it provokes focus. Different folk have different priorities for their BW experience, so..?
