The Pontiac Tempest, Le Mans, and GTO were different trims on the same platform. The tempest was the base model. The LeMans was the luxury model and the GTO was the muscle car. Pontiac was a division of GM and were known as Ponchos not Mopars which were Chrysler products. Nice video. I like the content.

That is a 1962 Pontiac Tempest (possibly) Lemans manufactured by General Motors. Lemans was a trim package on a Tempest that year. It does not have a transmission, it has a transaxle. Engine to drive shaft and driveshaft to transaxle in the rear. I think my grandmothers had a small shifter lever on the dash.

SIGN. I can agree that you are not a Mopar guy since you appear to think that Chrysler Corp. had Pontiacs in their stable. LeMans was the top trim level of the Tempest model line in 1962. The 4-barrel four banger was not rare. That was the standard engine in the Tempest LeMans for ‘61 - ‘63. That engine was basically one bank of cylinders from the 389 cid engine. In 1964, the GTO came out with a 389 as the standard engine. GTO was the new top of the line of the Tempest model line. 10:36 The Tempest body of 1961 was completely changed in 1964, again in 1966, and still again and ‘68. The 1967 Tempest with the overhead cam straight six was the first new car I ever bought, at age 19. I still think the ‘66 and ‘67 were the best looking years for that model. And the high revving 0HC-6, which had a four barrel and dual exhaust, was a marvel.
@Americanrodshop
@Americanrodshop Год назад
LOL! Great info for a non- Mopar Guy! That 4 barrel carb info was from the seller's listing! Keep watching to keep me straight!!

Found my '70 El Camino on C-List back in 2013 for $8K. Named it "Non-Legit", came with crate 454 but is not an SS. Found local salvage cowl induction hood and rattle can painted it to match along with SS stripes. Added used SS wheels and lately brand new tires. Getting close to my 10K original budget but this has been an enjoyable useable driver project. Perfectionist whiners would get ulcers and belly aches but I don't care.

That Pontiac slant 4 would be a great project, and the 4 bbl option makes it a good starter. Essentially 1/2 of a 389 V8, it will accept a lot of the V8 performance parts (head, pistons, etc.). I've never seen one but I've heard of guys building these with a head from a 455 and high compression pistons and making decent horsepower. I'd buy the car if it wasn't so far away.

I don't know if Mopar people will be knowledgeable on Pontiacs ,, The LeMans was introduced as the top trim package of the compact-sized Pontiac Tempest toward the end of the 1961 model year on GM's new Y body platform. The Tempest LeMans featured sportier and more luxurious features and standard equipment than the Tempest, including different badging and bucket seats. The trim option was available only on the two-door sedan (pillared coupe) body style. For the 1962 model year, the LeMans remained a trim package that was now also available in the convertible body style, as well as with the 194.5 cu in (3.2 L) inline-four cylinder, 4-barrel carbureted engine. There was no pillarless hardtop body style available in either the Tempest or LeMans.
@thomasallen3818
@thomasallen3818 8 месяцев назад
The 3rd car, a Pontiac Tempest have the upgraded LaMans package. And it’s not a MOPAR! Only Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, DeSoto, Jeep, and Ram lines of vehicles are considered to be MOPARs. MOPAR is actually the after market parts group for the above mentioned brands of vehicles.

I always give my classics a nickname. I had a 66 Baracuda that was green so I named it "Kermit", I had a 77 Ford Fairmont 2 door That I named "Irene", they are viewed as granny cars and Irene Ryan played Granny Moses on the Beverly Hillbillies, My current classic is a 75 Pontiac Grand Prix which is named "Bullgod" after the Kid Rock Song. Pontiac isn't a Mopar btw... it's a GM and most of these cars aren't in "buy and drive" condition either..... The Wildcat needs new interior and a new convertible top, The 53 Chevy needs alot interior work. The 51 stude needs a new front seat, and the 50 ford needs a complete dash. a "buy and drive" car is a car that you can Buy then drive with little to no work while you work on it to make it better not that you have put a couple grand into to that isn't maintenance or wear out items like a Battery, new fluids, a new set of tires or windshield wipers blades. Sure you could buy that Stude and throw a set of buckets in it on the cheap but that still doesn't make a "buy and drive" car. I generally LOVE your videos but this one was a fail. What happened to the Mid-late 70's cars video btw?
@Americanrodshop
@Americanrodshop Год назад
Thanks Bryan! I appreciate the insight and I am always trying to improve the selection! With being only able to share 10 cars in the video's time frame and find cars that the average joe can afford to buy and enjoy in this economy is always a hard task, but I will try and do my best! Keep tuning in and I always will appreciate your feedback!
@TheREALOC1972
@TheREALOC1972 Год назад
@@Americanrodshop Oh I have no doubt that it's hard task, I think you may be boxing yourself in by your self defination of "Classic" though, By defination anything older than 25 years old is a classic car but that doesn't mean ALL cars 25 years old is a classic car, is a 1998 Honda Civic a classic car? no....But a 3rd gen Camaro is, so is a Fox Body Mustang, a 78 Plymouth Fury? yep... it is also. a classic car isn't just anything pre 73 or 69 or whatever. A 82 Camaro and 87 Foxbody Mustang is just as much a "classic car" as a 48 Mercury and 57 Belair is. Love your channel and will continue to watch your videos but this one was just a fail, Even Patrick Mahomes throws an Interception and fumbles the ball once in a while.
