My brother in law was born in Belfast, moved to the West Midlands of England when he was five years old and in August of 1966, he, his father, his four uncles and five brothers migrated from Wolverhampton to New Zealand settling In Hamilton as his father was a plumber and pipe fitter. He then moved to Australia in 1974 where he lived in Sydney for nearly a decade before he migrated to the United States where he has been living for 40 years (March 2023 will be 40 years) and his accent is a cross between an Irish brogue and a Brummie accent. BTW his wife is an American who was living in Sydney as she worked as an English teacher at a night school for migrants who spoke little to no English after arriving in Australia.

My auntie and uncle went to Australia and moved from tottenham to start a new life .never got to see them, but my parents did visit her sister on several occasions. Unfortunately, now my parents have passed away, and other relatives have lost all traces of my cousins in Australia. I'm sure they all made the right choices and have enjoyed their time living there bringing up their own families.

On the 22/03/2017 being this Wednesday, I will have been in Australia 50 years. Came over on the Fairsea, and from what I remember was a fun trip. Very different from the cruise ships today, especially in size. Anyway to all of you that now call Australia home, I send you best wishes.

You need to return to Europe.. They sent you there and imported a load of 3rd worlders to England to replace you. It was an ethnic replacement and its all part of the Kalergi Plan. We are in serious trouble, please wake up and see what's happened and return to Europe.

It took six weeks to come from Southampton to Sydney via Gibraltar and the Suez Canal. Stops that I remember we're Port Said, Aden, Melbourne.

I must confess, even in the early 80’s I still had to hear “Back in England..... x or y was always better”. But let’s face it, it must be a hard thing to do, leaving your entire life behind. Worse for the non english speaking people, but man, did they work hard, and did they do well.

At the interview our family had at Australia House the very first question was addressed to me, not my parents. 'You know Australia has the draft. If you are called upon to go to Vietnam would you go?' ... I gave the correct answer and we bacame ten pound poms... I didn't go to Vietnam... but I later did join the army.

The fact is the Federal Government Department of Immigration does not respect or honour the original Ten Pound Pom Nomination Agreement for PERMANENT Residency has permanently split families and prevented young children from having their parents in their lives in Australia. The 1984 Migration Act change prevented Australian Citizenship being claimed by those who had been issued Permanent Residence in the early 1960's. Yet Britain allowed Australians to stay permanently in similar circumstances. They have politicised immigration and citizenship rights to the highest bidder (China) and the criminals who flee justice to Australia and continue their billion dollar crime spree.

I’ve never understood why the £10 Poms were not liked. Australia needed more people to grow into the future and Brits were the nearest thing to the Aussies. The Aussies are now considering becoming a Republic. Great. Move on. You have our blessing. BUT remember this. You are a vast continent. If you were to be invaded, would you be able to defence yourself. If not would you hope for the UK to help. NB We would not be obliged. Food for thought.

Neat. I saw this a year ago. I have been trying to find a series of docos (Whickers World I think it was) made around 1988-9 where he goes back to see how the ten pound poms have fared - any info would be great as its what inspired me to leave Pommieland back in 1988...
