Kevin Costner's "Wyatt Earp" was a better movie than "Tombstone".

@@williewhite1161 Even though "Wyatt Earp" had more of a historically accurate portrayal of the events in the city of Tombstone, Kevin Costner acts like a complete _doofus_ in the movie. *"Tombstone"* is an infinitely better movie with much better characters and acting throughout.

I agree. Kilmer's portrayal was awesome and was enjoyable to watch. But since I found out more about Doc Holliday over the past several years or so, I began picturing him the way Quaid portrayed him.

Quaid became, if I'm remembering correctly, bulimic so that he would look sick, like someone who had Consumption.

I think this was his best movie, hard to believe how he looks now, age really makes you expand in all directions. Other than this and batman I think he was over rated. But in tomb stone as Doc Holliday, he was perfect

Interesting ..was stationed there ft huachuca..stones thro from tombstone.they had country western jamboree there every year circa 1969 lasted few days..not many residents back then i could see.stayed on in sierra vista and later tucson for some time after my ETS.did a bunch of online reading about the clantons and earps politics which was interesting.support docs and earps politics and other stories ive read about billy the kid and his pistoleros all motivated by political corruption.same with the james boys..here in 2022 the corruption has evolved into near perfection where they cant be touched..i long for the old ways,the old ways when we stood a chance.whack a bad guy then go sheriff someplace else..ft huachuca shoulda got involved when clantons were rustlin cattle from mexico..thats federal shit

Actually, they both have a lot of historical accuracies & inaccuracies; however, the best (and authentic event, according to eyewitness accounts) was Wyatt's confrontation in the river (Noo. Nooo! NOOOO! *NOOOO!*) in which he was shot at from multiple angles by multiple persons and escape unscathed, save for a hole in his dusters just below his (big brass) balls!

Kevin Costner was originally tied to the Tombstone movie but left to make his own bc he wanted it to be more about Wyatt and his complete life. If I'm not mistaken, it actually did better than Tombstone in theaters

Costner's movie I felt was a better made, higher quality movie, but KR/Val K flic was so very entertaining, the humorous writing in Tombstone was top notch funny & Kilmer's delivery can not be topped, IMO of course 😉

Those were my thoughts as well. Knowing and being familiar with Bar owners was a common thing for gamblers. Trusting Wyatt with his life is another. The reason Doc and Wyatt were so familiar and friendly was because Doc saved Wyatt's life long before Tombstone. Moving around where the silver, gold, and jobs were was common during the Wild West times. So for Doc Holliday to be traveling where Wyatt was and Wyatt traveling where Doc was; makes them closer than others. If we take the newest movie, "The Magnificent Seven" into account, you can see references of the "time-lapse" of traveling from place to place. You are nearly obligated to stay where you are for long stints. Also, Doc most likely went to where Wyatt was due to his connection with law enforcement. Just because you had a badge DID NOT mean you were NOT corrupt. So Doc most likely went due to trusting Wyatt.

The script writer lifted that phrase from a 1920's book "Tombstone: An Iliad of the Southwest" in which Doc tells Ringo "I'm your huckleberry. That's JUST my game", just like he does in the movie. "I'm your huckleberry" is a well-documented old saying that exists in many books. Unlike "huckle bearer" which only exists on the internet, starting in about 1997. As described, it's grammatically incorrect anyway. Allegedly, the casket handle was a huckle. (never was) So if you carried the casket, you were a huckle bearer. That's stupid. That would literally mean "handle bearer". You don't bear the handle of anything, you bear the LOAD, which would be the casket in this case.
