As much as I disagree with the system of government in China, if they build a basic auto (preferably a hatch back) or truck, I'd be interested. No 4g or 5g, blue tooth for music and, oh yes, published service manuals. The North American manufacturers are not providing inexpensive vehicles. Everything is hugely expensive and luxurious. A car like my 2004 Toyota Echo or 2013 Kia Rio Hatch would be fine.
Counter examples by North American brands: Ford Fiesta (like Rio) or Ford Fiesta Sedan (like Echo): inexpensive. Alternative: Ford EcoSport. Chevrolet Bolt: inexpensive hatchback. Chevrolet Spark, Spark EV, Sonic, Aveo, Trax: inexpensive hatchback Jeep Renegade, Jeep Avenger Can't really see, what you mean.

Thank you for another informative show. Interestingly this is the first show I've seen mentioning that the Union downvote in Alabama was a very close one.

Theres something wrong with the units of the 2nd-to-last story. 7.5MWh could reasonably be used by a single vehicle in a year. TWh seems a more plausible unit for both rail and road vehicle numbers.
I've had the miserable experience of trying to reuse a power cord that was made with copper plated AL wire, but that would be a option to reduce charger cable theft since it would annoy the recycling companies.
It would make the cable thicker, thus stiffer, which is something Tesla has worked hard to avoid, and the other cables can't stand to get any worse on.
EV charging stations are poorly designed by engineers without any street smarts. The charging cable should have always been behind locked panels except when electronically unlocked when needed for charging, The exact same problem will occur to the urban charging pole product, except there is a lot more copper to steal with the long cables,
Call me crazy if you like, but I prefer the “bring your own cable” way that Europe does it with L2. Yes, DCFC is a different beast; but a halfway decent engineer could likely make it work.
Electric railroads are great but they cost a lot to set up and it would mean a whole new fleet. Commuter railroads and the Northeast Corridor have proven that electric works as have railroads in Europe, Japan and China. Diesels are (relatively) inexpensive and already in use with an infrastructure set up to service them so the railroads will not give them up.
even decades ago when i lived in germany, most trains there were electric. some were diesel-powered, and i can't remember seeing a steam train in real life.
Electric trains are sooooo much cheaper in the long run. It is the upfront cost that has kept companies from investing. Today's profit is all that matters to the shareholders, they do not plan for long term profit or environmental sustainability. It should be a punishable crime.
Electric rail in the US is used pretty much exclusively for subway systems in the handful of large cities that have them; through 3rd rail. We used to have overhead powered trolleys in almost EVERY city, but GM, Michelan, and Standard Oil bought almost all of them, shut them down, scrapped the cars, and conspired to sell the municipalities diesel busses. Long distance rail is actually primarily for industrial use and shipping. There are a few communter lines, but the bulk of rail usage in the US is frieght. And the rail lines themselves are not public assets, but are owned by the rail companies, who lease out sections of their lines for commuter rail use. And there are ALOT of rail lines in the US. 160,000 miles of them. That means it needs 160,000 miles of overhead lines and supporting towers to electrify it all. Enough to go around the entire Earth four times. Who is paying for that?
@@patreekotime4578 it's not like it is one or the other. electrifying a line does not mean that diesel trains can't use that line. so electrify those lines bit by bit, then use the money you save to electrify more lines. that may take a couple of years but it has to be done. also, the earth's circumference is 40000 km, not 40000 miles.
Hertz is scummy. We rented a Tesla model Y when our tesla was rear-ended while at a stop sign. They gave us an option to get an I pass (Illinois toll device). we, of course, said, " No, we live in state and have multiple I passes." Over the course of 3 weeks, they charged us over $300 for tolls that we used our I pass on. They refunded, but it took a very long process. Thinking back we should have filed a complaint with the BBB. BY THE WAY, that $300 they charged us was to cover about $50 of actual tolls. (About $3 per day).
The BBB is toothless really. Making your story public is likely a bigger effect. Based on what I have heard over the last few years, I am not renting from Hertz.
Right, its not like Elon would have other companies who could take over from Tesla. Not-A-Single-One. He is a poor man without the Money Tesla pays him - oh wait, they did not pay since 2018. Why you ask? Because Geezer Joe did not want this corrupt Delaware judge to gibe Elon a single penny. He should move his company to Hungary instead. There they are at least honestly corrupt.
L2 yes. I know chargers are used to perform cell balance maintenance tasks and diagnostics. If DCFC is needed for maintenance work they can’t avoid it but it would also depend on how close a public charger is
When I brought my Eton it would have been nice had the dealership showed me how to charge it and I could never quite understand when I went into the navigation to show me where the nearest charger was it would send me to a BMW dealer. 😂 Had they showed me how to disconnect the charger from the car as I kept having to fight with it because it did not want to let go and all I have to do is press the button to the right but I found that out after 4 weeks after searching on RU-vid🙄 I think dealerships having charges could generate some revenue but also help us get more charging stations out there I'm in Seattle the charging network is not good even Tesla I don't think has a enough chargers and they certainly don't have enough people to implement them right now if Audi Porsche GM Kia Nissan Ford Hyundai BMW put four charges in at all their dealerships that would be way more that we would have at Walmarts
Tesla owner here. In order to drain my battery in 70% of the advertised EPA range, I must drive like a maniac, or the weather must be very cold (I don’t have a heat pump, yet). I aged that the EPA ranges are optimistic, but 70% is overly pessimistic. The truth is somewhere in-between.
I don't get it, You are supposed to be unbiased reporters, but your dislike of like Elon Musk always seems to get in the way. Did You actually even listen to what Elon said,? Suspect not, if you had you might understand why he would wish to maintain more influence over the companies he created. Open AI is a perfect example, a nonprofit company taken over and turned into a for-profit company without the safe guards Elon was hoping for. Yet you try to paint him as vindictive and petty. You act as if your these great crusaders for humanity, while you tear down someone who is actually doing something positive for humanity. What have you done? I am a Tesla share holder and have been since before we voted on his compensation package. I knowingly voted for it and can say Elon delivered on his promise's and it's Time Elon gets what was agreed on. How would you feel if some judge who has no moral right to step in decided you didn't deserve the money you've been paid and you have to pay it back even after you'd already provided all your work to all your patrons. Elon made an almost impossible business deal with Tesla about how he would get paid. It was all okd by everyone then. Elon made the almost impossible, possible. Now he wants Tesla to pay the agreed compensation for his amazing work at Tesla. An agreement is a contract and if that contract is broken. Maybe Elon will sue Tesla for not keeping to the contract.
Provided it has space for a spare tire it wouldn't be a trade down from what I have. Some people use cars for what they're actually good at, namely getting well out of urban areas. I have no interest in waiting hours for a support van that may not serve where I am at all over 10 minutes to swap a flat tyre/damaged wheel.
@@peglor I agree. My next car will be an EV and it will somehow have a full sized spare. Even if I have to get creative, I am going to have a real spare.

In the UK claims like that made by Tesla that the Cybertruck can beat a Porsche over a quarter mile even when pulling a Porsche on a trailer would likely fall foul of the Advertising Standards Authority. It seems anything goes in the US and that there is no downside to making false claims. It all seems so unnecessary as were Tesla to just make the point that the Cybertruck was quicker than a Porsche in a straight race, the point would have been made. As it is it just adds to Tesla's reputation for talking BS. Mind you how many people, offered one or the other, would go with the Cybertruck now that would be an interesting study.
Please keep discussion civil. Tesla hasn't been following its core promise for a long time, and there are some people who aren't enjoying the vehicles it offers
@archigoel if Elon had made that claim it would have been impressive. It still is. But he had to inflate it with claims of unbreakable windows (it's not), bullet proof body (low velocity pistol calibers only) and quicker to 1/4 mile than a 911 while towing a 911 (its not), then releasing a video to support that claim. Then it turns out that the only truth in the video was, there was a 911 and there was a cybertruck in the video. Btw, the stock Camaro zl1 is quicker and faster to the quarter mile than an empty Cybertruck and costs less.
🔌🔌If you want to see the CAT 793 EV mining truck take a trip down to CAT's off-grid proving grounds in Tucson (Green Valley AZ). I am surprised no independents have reported on this site. A couple of my Electrical consultants from Tucosn working on the designs of the South American mine site had the chance to tour and drive some equipment at the Green Valley site. 🔌🔌
Trains in the US and Canada are mostly towed by "engines" that run electric motors already. The electricity is provided by ICE diesel generators, however, and this is due to lack of power supply along many routes (particularly in the west). I agree that it would be a great thing to figure out a way to dispense with the diesel component, as well as upgrade at least the passenger parts of the rail network to high-speed electric - North America is way behind on that.
"this is due to lack of power supply along many routes"... this is not true at all. They engineered them to use eclectic motors because its the only powertrain that can get thousands of tons moving from a standstill. Imagine if it was diesel only.. how many gears would you need? hundreds lol.
@@Jojo-o6o6w my point was that the reason they haven't ditched the _diesel_ _generators_ is because of the "lack of power supply along many routes", and not that the electric motors (which they have long used for propulsion) are not perfect for the job.
I’m a Tesla shareholder with considerable shares in the company. If the no vote wins against Musk I’ll be withdrawing my shares. I support Musk in running Tesla fully.
That report on Tesla battery degradation was unhelpful. To compare 3 year real world range full of variables and ideal conditions manufacturer stated range is disingenuous at best. It was a Headline grabbing FUD hack piece. If they wanted to be actually helpful they needed to compare apples to apples. Determine the ranges of multiple cars on delivery and then again at 3 years under similar conditions. Who was this lazy thoughtless author?
We received our class action settlement for the Bolt EV software update some months ago. We felt that the $1400 was an reasonable settlement for us re: the reduced range and hassle of a couple of visits to the dealer where we had to wait a few hours for the update to be done. Frankly, it was an out of the blue event when GM notified us of the settlement with directions on how to redeem the settlement.
I’m generally supportive of the comp package for Elon. He met all the targets as agreed. I also support moving the company to Texas. Run the company from which ever state makes the most sense. But, I actually think AI / Robotics should be a separate company - developed independently of Tesla and the technology licensed back. Long term, AI will be as different from EVs as SpaceX is today.
thanks for this show. Hope you had a good 4 day weekend. Hope Tesla shareholders tell Musk he doesn't get his Re Mune Er A Tion package. That company deserves to fix their woes by dumping Elon.
A clarification from Italy: there is currently a row between the government and Stellantis. Stellantis is shutting down most of the factories in Italy, delocalizing in Serbia, Turkey and even France (this really hurts italian nationalists). Tavares on the other hand is asking for public money to expand electric production lines. Tavares even signed a deal to sell Chinese EVs, cars without a single italian switch, through Stellantis dealerships. Put on top the fact that the extreme-right transportation minister openly hates EVs. Oh, and the ministry of industry has ben renamed "ministero del made in Italy" english in the original, and they've already exchanged some punches on the Alfa Romeo Milano, made in Poland. So you have to read the story of the seized Topolino's in broader light. Italy is losing ground in mass car technology (yeah, Ferrari etc etc) and the politicians don't know what to do.
Do you even do any kind of fact/gut checking on what you report? Last year EVs only used 7.596 MWh of energy? That can't be correct. (I used 4.67 MWh all by myself, and I don't drive that much. How much energy did your EVs use last year?)
You should do a video on gas car recalls. Something to point the haters to when they claim EVs have more recalls or bugs or whatnot. Also more info on the Bolt lawsuit would be much appreciated, thanks.
I am not a fanboi, but… can anyone seriously argue that voting against Musk is even vaguely fair? His package was entirely predicated on him achieving insane levels of growth for Tesla… given that he made everyone a vast share value increase, some folk don’t want to pay him?!? Madness.
Elon Musk has already made more money from Tesla than most people’s entire family make in multiple lifetimes. The disconnect between firing staff and asking for $55 Billion is ludicrous - Nikki
@@transportevolved… I agree that his remuneration - and most CEOs compensation these days - is beyond the pale. I think it’s a seperate issue, though. An agreement was made. He delivered the ‘moonshot’. The egregiousness of the amount needs to be dealt with by society through taxation. If Musk had not grown Tesla at such an enormous rate, his remuneration was going to be exponentially less… which is what I think folks anticipated. Retrospectively going back on the agreement… thats deeply problematic. The firing of staff is… kinda normal for big business. The difference is how much attention Musk is getting for it. I agree that large scale layoffs suck… but I am unaware of what the separation package was for those laid off. Normally it is mentioned by the media… but with a Musk associated venture, he could offer ten weeks salary and continuation of healthcare… and the media wouldn’t mention it. The battery degradation on 3's and Y's is crazy, from Recurrent's article: "...the Model 3 Standard Range battery is guaranteed to stay at 70% original capacity for 100,000 miles or 8 years" Surely Tesla is replacing most of these batteries?

@@transportevolvedIt all depends on the wording. Yours is clearly PRO Government and CONTRA Elon. It is who you are. I had to learn to read between the lines your report.
Tesla does not replace batteries because Tesla batteries degrade far below that limit. Meaning. Tesla batteries are far better than the competition or th law demands. Mine lost 5% on the first 120.000km before i sold my first M3 Made in Fremont years ago. The newer batteries MIC - made in China - do not show a single percent of degradation, but they are not that old. The worst Tesla batteries are int the Model S 85. And only that model loses measurably inside those 8 years. And they are still above 80%. Independent how you measure them.

@@ahaveland You mean fixing Twitter and growing it into a much more powerful company with huge growth potential? Also Tesla's reputation has been damaged by the woke mob, not Elon. Attacks and hate started long before he bought Twitter. The main offensive started the moment he became the richest person in the world. Elon's more right-leaning communication is the consequence of that, he was pushed out of left-wing circles, so he didn't have much choice but getting associated with the right. I had wondered if he was trying to pander to the right wing in an attempt to get wider acceptance of EVs amongst that part of the population, which if it works, could be a net good to come out of his behaviour (for electrification overall). How can they be so well informed and so ignorant a the same time? 3. There were surveys, and according to them Tesla barely lost any sales due to "Elon's behavior". It's a loud minority that's creating fake drama on social media. 4. Elon haven't changed, the world gone far left since the pandemic. For example he showed the event where Elon announced the Optimus program, and only the part where someone in a robot costume danced, but completely ignored the real robots Tesla made since then.
When Tesla is so dependent on Elon Musk, I won't bet on Teslas long term success. Mr. Musk will be 53 soon and he doesn't look as if he lives a particularly healthy lifestyle.
As a Musk fan, I agree. He would be better of making AI robot outside of tesla -- whole team will follow him because they will get better equity. Musk can sell of his tesla shares and invest it in other companies. Tesla's mission is already achieved, why should Musk spend so much pain and time on tesla? Better for tesla to be valued as a car company at $100B.
Why are you sabotaging your own investment? And what blackmail tactic? Not wanting to work his ass off for free? Or expecting to keep the money he already got for the work he had done for Tesla? And it's not even about the money. He just afraid that Tesla can be taken from him, and this case just proved him right. Why did you share the false statement that Teslas only get 70% of EPA range? This isn't true. It's based upon not using most of the battery pack. Or that the planning software is usually wrong? Here’s something to ponder…EPA range ratings are based on 100% on down. However, most EVs are supposed to be charged to 80%.The EPA should base their ratings on 80 percent to zero. Therefore their ratings would be lower.
The rating maximum range, not typical daily range, you can always use 100% on occasions as it suits you, such as the start of a long trip where range counts
The EPA rated range is stupid but it’s the only one that can be reasonably applied to all items for sale. You can always come up with your own. OOS podcast does this regularly. Theirs is relatively repeatable

Shareholders got super high returns form 2019 to 2021. Tesla peaked over $1.2T, up from $50B in 2019. That was above what Elon promised, and what most bulls predicted. Then the macro environment changed drastically. It's not just Tesla that suffered, all tech companies did. A few recovered, most didn't. There's no abuse.
