The man can play. One of my favorite guitarists and bands. Very underrated Imo. It's a wonderful song. I could tell you both were enjoying that guitar playing. Great choice and reaction!
It is a nice way to look at it, but the skies are sunny, bees make honey part refers to the hippie movement of that time. Just as he refers to the conservatives, socialists and capitalists. As for the guitar work, the lead guitarist was seen as one of the best of his era, one of the guitar gods of the late 60s and early 70s.
I'm glad you finally got to Ten Years After. Alvin Lee is one of my favorite guitarist and the rest of the band is great as well. They did some solid albums in the late 60:s and early 70:s. There's lots of good songs in their discography. Off the top of my head I'd like to recommend "I Woke up This Morning" and "50.000 Miles Beneath My Brain".
Alvin Lee was known for his speedy playing, but he was underrated for his deep soulfulness. The comparison to Carlos Santana is something I'd never thought of but is right on the money. RIP Alvin Lee - you changed the world more than you know. Truly one of the classic rock guitar solos of all time in this song.
Agree, if you want to change the world, take care of yourself, your family, friends, neighbors and the people you encounter each day, rebuild from the grassroots up.
this song is excellent but i always questioned the lyrics. with the lyric "i don't know what to do" its obviously about frustration. but the line "so i leave it up to you" is a pass-the-buck sentiment i don't agree with. but the overall impact of the song has an epic feel to it; a timeless even emotional quality. its inspirational depite its rather "who cares" lyrics. the entire album this song appears on, "a space in time," is one of the best r&r albums ever. its a wonderful blend of "space" effects, hook filled ballads and great rock and roll. their appearence at woodstock is great too. "i'm going home (by helicopter)" just kicks major butt. thanks for the upload.
great song. guitar work is incredible. had not heard this song for some time, so happy to find it again. please do a reaction to "Get Together" by the Youngbloods. A song similar in vein to this one for messaging.
Since nobody else mentioned this, I feel I must: The first line is, "Everywhere is freaks and harries, dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity?" ... This line is written as if spoken by a presumably older, conservative, and crassly bigoted generation-- as the younger generation suffered under it in the 1960s. If you were gay or part of the hippie movement, or just had long hair, you were an automatic target for oppression from most older people, parents, employers, landlords, police, the government, even the president himself- Richard Nixon at that time. Unfortunately, we are moving back in a similar direction today in much of the world.
