It always blows my mind how great a musician Page was/is. People who dismiss Page as sloppy are missing the big picture. Thanks again, Fran!

@@WH-nz7ke I'm gonna disagree with you along with Steve Vai and Joe Bonamassa who have spoken on this matter. What some call 'sloppy' are not listening below the surface or the rhythm. Page is bending, slurring, scraping, raking, and using 'splosives' constantly. It's all right there live on the Song Remains The Same. He's tighter than a drum on 95% of that performance, all... while playing some very complicated stuff and... dancing along. Watch Page's right hand using hybrid picking on The Song Remains The Same fluently riffing along and effortlessly playing the ideas of all 3 studio parts. Untouchable. And very clean.

When I first listened to Zeppelin as a kid, yeah those unforgettable riffs are like no other in rock. But damn... Page's chord choices and harmonies are freaking sublime. He never takes the obvious path. From The Rain Song, Since I've Been Lovin' You, to Ten Years Gone... all of it... it never gets tired because of those creative choices he made. Great video Fran!

This was a great video and demo. Definitely cool that you're first person to mention the electric sitar, as Ive noticed that so long ago, but never seen anyone who plays or instructs on this song mention it. I had the LA Forum bootleg cassette tapes from June 23, 1977 from the recording at the LA Forum in the early 1980s. Your story is not correct on the triple neck. This song was not being played at all when Manson made the uncommissioned triple neck. Manson saw Jones in a 1971 or 1972 concert and saw Jonesy being handed different instruements - mandolin, 6 string acoustic, so in 1973 and through part of 1974 - Manson built the triple necked acoustic instrument. Manson delivered the triple neck to Jones and Jonesy had no idea what was being brought to him. When Jonesy opened his door - he said "Wow, wait till Pagey sees this !" Jonesy gave him £400.00 for it. Jonesy used it early on Led Zeppelin's second leg of their US tour in 1977 and through the rest of the tour. I saw Jonesy play his triple necked acoustic instrument live in Dec 2001 - it ŵas incredible. About 5 to 6 years ago, Andy Manson built the same triple neck again, but with a better bracing set up. Jonesy's triple neck is having bracing issues last I knew. Those sea urchin and other creature inlays in the fret board and Jonesy's symbol on the back were added after Led Zeppelin broke up. There's one clear known pic of the back of Jimmy's 1953 Botswana brown Telecaster -- you can see a large "L" shaped plate of aluminum (or whatever the metal or alloy is) covering the large carved out back of the guitar.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think Page ruined Ten Years Gone by using the B-bender in concert. Think of the opening lines. On the album, there was something special about how each chord was picked out. Different each time. I memorized each of those as they were these tiny little musical statements, all building to the release of the louder part. I've always thought that using the bender smeared those careful opening lines into a blur. I mean, he wrote the song, he can do whatever he wants with it, but I miss the careful precision from the album version.
