It doesn’t sound like a good move by the government and I must admit being as farming is a long game so is looking after the environment. I think longer tenancies are a no brainer and they need to listen to the concerns put up in this video. How can the next generation and new entrants get a foot on the ladder without a longer term deal of at least ten years or more? Best wishes, Tony.
I'm not familiar with farming practices in the UK but I expect it's about the same as in the US. There is a huge investment in equipment and also a lot of acquired knowledge required to run a farm and be successful. It may take 2-3 generations for a farm to build up all that equipment and knowledge. It's a lot harder to find people willing to commit to that process if every generation they get hit with taxes that undo much of that progress. Instead you get people focused on the short term. Not ideal for the land or for maintaining good production rates.
