Native speaker here. We also use tener in these situations: * Tengo frío (I'm cold) *Tengo calor (I'm hot) * Tengo hambre (I'm hungry) We also use hacer in the following situations: * Hace frío (when the weather it's cold) * Hace calor (when the weather is hot) * Hace tiempo ( a long time ago) Felicitations por querer aprender Español.

Why do you say felicitations Spanish is one of the easiest language to learn much easier then French Italian and Portuguese so many none native know how to speak it and many more are learning it because it easy, before we know it alot of none native speaker will speak Spanish just like native. I think I becomes boring at some point because now native Spanish speaker won't be able to say something or say something bad behind people back because everyone will know Spanish at some point 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣

I heard there still is some Spanish places in the Philippines. Any truth to that? I know Philippines has like a hundred different languages so would make sense that there are Spanish people. Wonder where
@sgvs9655
@sgvs9655 2 года назад
@@thebelizeaneh yes, that is definitely true. We were colonized by the Spaniards for more than 300 years, they have influenced us heavily. You can see it through different places, establishments, people, dialects and languages here in our country. In Manila, which is the capital of the Philippines, there is this famous place called Intramuros, if you are planning to visit our country, it’s a must that you go there. :) There are too many places to mention, Davao, Cebu, Ilocos, etc. When it comes to the language, there’s a place in Mindanao where they actually speak Spanish. And there are people here whose last names were derived from Spanish, in fact, our lolo is half Spanish who came from the Basque region in Spain originally. :)

Well ..... if one is familiar with those 3 verbs then your explanation makes sense. It's good. If you are new to those verbs I think it will take a little more time and explanation to ' get' the usage of those verbs. Not that the doctor didn't explain the usage of the verbs correctly, but it will take more time than the 10 minutes of the video.

I am just learning Spanish, so most of what I am learning is present tense. I am starting to hear about all of the other tenses in Spanish now and they are confusing to me. As an English speaker, I am only used to using (Past, Present, Future). I'm sure there are more....or more names, but I must be unfamiliar with what we call them. Can you explain how the many Spanish tenses are used and recommend in what order we learn them…or should we just learn all of the tenses of each verb?
@johanna9333
@johanna9333 3 года назад
There a lot of tenses in spanish, I would recommend to look through basic verbs. It helps you to know basic words when hearning it but in another tense. Through context, you'll start to pick the tenses up. I also recommend learning the tenses after you know some basic verbs.
@eugenebrown4163
@eugenebrown4163 2 года назад
The present tense is what you learn at first. You have a long way to go in the language. Every tense that you speak in English you learn in Spanish. This is to far in advance for you at this moment.

Very insightful video, however I think your explaination about "hacer" is not what the person who got confused with these three words wanted to know. Your examples of "hacer" are more like the general usage of this word, however there is at least one situation that this word can become cofusing and got mixed up with "tener" and "haber", that is when you say "hace calor hoy". In this case, the word "hacer" really sounds like something related to "tener" and "haber", and I think that is definately one of the situations that perosn got confused and needed some explainations from you.

Hello, great lesson, but I have a question : for the example: "She had already arrived". You used the imperfect past tense, habia. But why wouldn't you use the preterite, hubo? When she arrived it seems like it would be a one time event, not a continuing thing in the past, hence, you would use the preterite form. If you could please clarify that would be great. BTW- Thank you so much for all the great lessons ( I purchased your Que Hora Es? season 1 and 2 and they are great)
@fabiana.4640
@fabiana.4640 9 месяцев назад
Native speaker here. This is a very good question because the explanation is not straightforward. When you say: Ella ya había llegado You don't know exactly the time she arrived, so even when arriving is a one time event, in this case you mean she had arrived at some moment in the past without knowing or specifying exactly when. Another examples: - Cuando llegamos ella ya había preparado la comida. - Me dijo que había visto una cucaracha. The antepretérito o pretérito anterior (e.g.: él hubo llegado) is a tense that we, Spanish speakers, avoid like the plague. It doesn't sound nice, it has almost fallen in disuse and it is not very common but in literary works. If you use it in normal speech it sounds strange and ostentatious. It actually sounds so weird that we sometimes use the wrong tense just to avoid it: - Sólo cuando apagó todas las luces, fue a acostarse. (The correct tense would be 'hubo apagado') So, we use it only when there is no other alternative, such as when the action is well defined in time and takes place immediately before the second action This happens, for example, when you say: Once she had arrived she did... (something) When she had closed the door, she... After she had done this.... Only when she had closed the windows..... Examples: -Sólo cuando hubo terminado de limpiar, se fue a dormir. -Una vez que hubo cerrado todas las puertas con llave, pudo tranquilizarse. -Cuando hubo terminado de comer pagó la cuenta y partió. -Luego (de) que hubo logrado entrar en la ciudad, comenzó la matanza.

Just the same as having 2 verbs for to be, there are also 2 verbs for to have. Haber & Tener. TENER has cognates in both English & French. consider the TENANCY of a person renting a house. A job being considered to be UNTENABLE before a resignation. If you think about it (which is supported by the French meaning of TENIR too), these English words imply POSSESSING or HOLDING. Indeed _Je tiens_ means "I hold" Also _las tiendas_ in Spanish means "the shops" (the place HOLDING the goods). So whenever you're thinking of translating into Spanish and which one to use, first think to yourself does my use of HAVE in English actually mean something I am holding or possess? If is does have that meaning then use TENER, but if it doesn't then use HABER (which is the cognate of HAVE when used as an auxiliary).
