I don't know why the disappearance of Jay hit me from the very beginning. Probably because I remember when my teenage sons went on their very first holiday without the rest of the family, to Greece. I knew the experience would be good for them from a development point of view, and I trusted them, but their safety was a constant concern. I was overjoyed when they returned suntanned, broke and full of exaggerated stories. My heart aches for Jay's parents and other family and I that this awful event will strengthen rather than diminish their bonds. The discovery of a body in the hills is devastating news, but possibly easier to accept than some of the other scenarios that might have been. May this young man now rest in peace, and may his Mum be able, over time, to rejoice in the precious gift was to her for 19 years.

That's a really good piece of reportage. It's interesting that the police said they were closing the investigation in order that it could proceed more quietly - who can blame them, given the media and online furore that surrounded the case. Publicity is necessary to encourage witnesses to come forward, but beyond that it can do more harm than good, as we have seen. I find it entirely plausible that Mr Slater got lost in unfamiliar and often hostile terrain and climate, and fell - those mountains are fierce beyond anything we have in the UK. For those determined to seek an alternative explanation, they will be looking for evidence of something that probably didn't happen - trying to prove a negative, in other words, which is notoriously difficult to do, and take a long time. They might be better off searching within themselves for some compassion.

Regardless of a past (we’ve all done things we’re not proud of) nobody deserves to be found 4 weeks later in the middle of nowhere.

A true gentleman who has shown greatest respect.

Thanks, Andrew. I think the police is doing the right thing disclosing information about the disappearance to the public . In the UK the news tells u too much sometimes . And I don't think they should tell the public too much on how the boy died as it's sensitive information that should only be told to the family
