I laughed so hard about this. He leans out the window, glances over and is like WTF??? What's funny is that I've seen it argued that he kept the case and threw it back because he knew the algorithm piece would eventually be back in the case. He was hoping that by following the case he would be able to visually see where it was and then go back to get it.

I could really appreciate how realistic it looked when the Protagonist started the car up. First, this was his first inversion ever from the POV and opening the car door in inverted time looked like it would’ve been slammed shut in forward time. When he got in, he started searching frantically for the fake plutonium, and then paused for a second, realizing that operating the car in the inversion is entirely inverted. You could see how he froze for a second in panic when he operated behind the steering wheel and trying to stay in reverse while the car was actually going forward. And getting to the point where he arrived and got the car flipped? Must’ve been a real few minutes in Hell not to screw the reality timeline up. Gotta hand it out to John David Washington for playing it out so well in the scenario where the character is inverted for the first time.

Every time I rewatch these scenes, I realize just how much of a genius Andrea Sator is. On multiple occasions he preforms a reverse interrogation He gets what he wants first, then threatens to shoot Kat by counting up, so it appears that he is counting down to the protagonist, finally he demands and threatens for what he wants and reverses the audio so the protagonist can understand; all while keeping on a strict timeline with no mistakes. He does this in the first temporal pincer scene too.
@alexman378

He’s clearly intelligent, there’s no way an idiot would manage to understand this concept and operate within it so well. But I think most of how he operates with it has to do with experience. He’s known about this since he was young, and he’s middle aged at this point. It’s like driving a car, I suppose. Initially, you’re panicking because there’s so much you need to keep in mind, both inside and outside of the car. Eventually, it all just becomes driving, if you get what I mean.

tbf, as smart as this is still, he was one of the first to get the technology of inversion, so he would've had the time to practice. Most others did it on the fly. It's all an excellent demonstration of how freaking *good* Sator is at inverting. Everything that happened? For him, it happened *backwards.* He goes to where his men say he abandoned the orange case, reaches out and it flies into his hands. Then he goes and switches cars - into one that the Protagonist "un-rescues" Kat from. Then he throws the case *back* into TP's hands, and then holds a gun on Kat to force the exchange he just participated in. And after all that, he drives back to the docks and escapes. He kept all that straight enough in his head to *force* the encounter to play out *exactly* how he wanted. No wonder he has a god complex; as far as he knows, he can bend the world to his whim whenever he wants...

@@hexagonproductions2019 There actually are some inconsistencies that I noticed... mainly the way fire and air works in reverse-time. Since reverse-fire freezes instead of burning, and since reverse-lungs can't breathe forward-time air, it doesn't make sense for gas cars to function in reverse-time. Either they would freeze up, or fire just couldn't happen since there's no inverted oxygen for it to burn.
@hexagonproductions2019
@hexagonproductions2019 2 года назад
@@Kragatar Considering that the only inverted car we see in the film is Sator’s Audi, it’s possible that it was a specialized car meant for that purpose, he was a multi billionaire after all. I suppose all they would need to do is rig the car to carry oxygen and deliver it to the fuel tank, providing enough for the engine to combust, then invert the vehicle. This would be a rather substantial amount since for every one gram of fuel you would need 14 grams of oxygen, but perhaps that’s why it’s a hybrid car rather than a more compact one.

Took me like 2,000 watches to understand why Sator kept driving after the countdown/countup. I always figured he got what he needed so why couldn't he just turn around right there? But he's basically being chased by Neil from his inverted perspective (the perspective of this video), so he has to drive until the beginning of the engagement before Neil was running away. Once he gets past that point, they immediately whip the car around and head back unharassed. Basically if Neil is running in forward time, he is chasing Sator in the inverted perspective. No run = no chase.
@magetaaaaaa
@magetaaaaaa 7 месяцев назад
LOL this is what had bothered me too. I was like, where the hell is he going? He knows where it is but goes way up the road. I think what can be super confusing about this is that you mix up intent with physical actions. Neil is not actually chasing Sator, but the fact that he drove like crazy to get away from him and mirrored his movements also means that in reverse he will be driving like crazy and Sator has to speed up and constantly stay ahead of him. No matter where he goes Neils car seems to follow because he was running away from him in the forward version of events. I think this is the right way to think about it?

That is what really messed with my head. He gets in the car, checks the back seat, sees it there, but still drives out anyways and ends up losing it. Why not take it out and quickly run it inside to Neil and team? Because if he had, the events further up the freeway never would have happened. It HAS to be in the back seat in order for it to wind up back in forward moving TP's hands and to eventually go back into the case and then the armored truck. What's happened has happened.

It took me a while to realize the way this film is meant to be watched. @magetaaaaaa
@magetaaaaaa 7 месяцев назад
This is what tripped me up originally. I did not like the movie the first time I saw it. There was very little character development or backstory, they just seemed to rush from one thing to the next, it felt shallow. However... with a concept like this how could they even try to tell a backstory? Everyone is part of a much larger temporal pincer movement. What would they say? Spoil it up front and tell the audience that TP and Neil have been in on this thing for like ten years? Impossible. The more you watch it the more the concepts and decisions make sense. It will certainly not appeal to everyone but for those willing to engage with the material it just keeps paying dividends over time.

I'm going to be nitpicky because I love this movie, but the accident at 2:39 is impossible, but I guess it was done like that for artistic reasons. First the direction of the rubble doesn't match the state of the car, and the backwards movement doesn't match a collision from the back. What I guess is that that crash was filmed with the Saab moving forward and pulleys were used to move the crashed car to a lateral position once the crash happens, then the film was rewinded and then the rubble was added digitally to appear as if the rubble flies backwards. What should've been done is that the Saab should've been filmed going in reverse full speed and the rear end of the Saab should've collided with the rear end of the car. The end state should've been a collided car that returns back to normal once the Saab passes by...BUT THIS ON NORMAL TIME!!! From the perspective of the Protagonist(reverse time), the car should've been crashed from the start, and then he should've felt a bump from the back that would have given him forward momentum as he passed with the Saab near the car... And then both cars would've get fixed... So what TP should have seen in front of him should've been a damaged car that bumps him forward and then gets fixed.

Apparently the silver Saab, and Satos car are inverted cars. Sators men brought a couple of cars through the machine. This means inverted people can drive them “normally” from their reversed perspective. I guess that means if an inverted person were to hop in a NON-inverted vehicle and hit the gas, it would fly in reverse from his perspective.

Hitting the gas would cause it to suddenly stop moving backwards from their perspective. The brake would start it moving in whichever direction is opposite its current gearing.

So if the silver Saab wasn't inverted when Protagonist jumped in after going through the turnstile, putting it into 1st and hitting the accelerator pedal would have made it smash into that sturdy-looking black metal fence behind him. how did the Protagonist know Sator was going to throw the orange case out of his car after realizing it was empty? Its never made clear how he knew that detail. And people keep saying the algorithm was already in the Saab, but it wasn't. The protagonist threw it to himself about a second after he gives the case to Sator.

Yes. At 4:45 Sator is turning around to go blow up the protagonists car. The algorithm, however, is retrieved back at Freeport, but this happens offscreen before the protagonist inverts himself.
@leachblah6313

For inverted sator, the algorithm is in the straight protagonist. Inverted sator needs to use the turnstile again to get the algorith. But he didn't. So how? There's a scene where the protagonist heard a voice and asked Neil if it is the Estonian language. That voice is sator saying to his man to follow inverted protagonist because the algorithm is in the silver saab car. For inverted sator, he's going back to blow up the inverted protagonist and leave Kat back to straight sator. Then keep going to reach the day in vietnam. His men follow him to that day and complete the algorithm.

I was trying to explain this scene to some people. They didn't understand me when I said: "So from Sator's perspective, it's like the Normal Protagonist and Neil were chasing after him. 3:58 " Now that I think about it, it's like Sator wanted to turn around at 4:26 to go confront the Inverted Protagonist, but the Normal Neil was blocking his way for a moment. Therefore, he had to gain some space between them at 4:37 so he could turn around and get by them in order to see the Inverted Protagonist off....., so to speak.

Time travel is when is this happening. Is it the past? present? future? and can we change the outcome of past which would change the present/future The simulation/dream world. What is real, what is fake and can you tell the difference. After seeing Bill and Ted Face the Music last year, the theater manager came in during end credits and asked if I wanted to see a sneak preview of Tenet for free. They had a 7pm later but I saw it at 5pm with theater all to myself. I even had time to run to my car to smoke first. I was excited for the movie after the trailers since it's Christopher Nolan, but like with Dunkirk I was sort of bored most of the time. I know Christopher Nolan is an amazing director, I was also happy to see Denzel Washington's son John get a bigger role like this, and it was fun seeing Robert Pattinson since it was announced he was playing Batman and knowing he's in a movie directed by the guy who made a great Batman trilogy. I kept thinking of 3 things though. Dunkirk, Bill and Ted, and The Terminator. I saw The Terminator at that theater twice the week before, both time with the theater to myself since nobody was going last year. I love that movie and even though it's about time travel, I care about the characters, it looks awesome, it sounds awesome, great score, sfx, and it's smart without making you have to pause the movie in your head to think about if that's how everything would work in reverse every few minutes. The reason I said all of that rather than saying I didn't like the movie is because I know people who love his films will say "You just don't get it". I understood a lot of it, and the stuff that confused me didn't bother me. What bothers me is The Protagonist, I didn't care about him or any character. I only remember Kenneth Branagh's name is Sator because the comment below says "Sators facial expression". Another reason I don't like it is look at this action scene 3:17 are they tossing around a cube from Portal? Then tossing around 'The Orange Box'? Is that how time works backwards? Or at 1:50, the action just isn't suspenseful, and never feels like much is really happening. It's also PG-13 and it always feels that way.

At what point does Sator turn around and come back to tell TP he saw the hand off? During the forward event he comes through traffic backwards, turns around, starts going the other way, eventually pulls up alongside them and does the fake threat to Kat to force the exchange, the car unflips, the exchange happens, they get out of the SUV and get into the other car and drive off. At this point shouldn't the chase continue in reverse with Sator essentially cutting off Neil as they go backwards towards the site of the heist? At what point does he turn around and come back to tell him he saw the hand off?

It makes sense now, that part where the bmws side mirror shatters was where Sator had turned around to go light the Saab on fire. It’s crazy to know there had to have been atleast two non inverted Sators waiting at the port turnstile the one we see during the interrogation and an unseen one that retrieved the missing piece of the algorithm once everyone had cleared out.

So what I don't understand is if he is able to move freely when inverted or if he forced to just go along with what has already happened and in that sense he's kinda only experiencing it and not actually moving on his own. Since everything happens simultaneously, hence, even if you go back inverted you can't really change events bcoz you'd have already experienced them that way while u were not inverted. That's why movie says "What's happened happened"
@amulbham6928
@amulbham6928 3 года назад
It happens at the same time, so your not really "moving freely" so much as you are just doing what already happened lol if that makes sense. No matter what you do when inverted, already happened, so it doesn't matter what you do. Call it free will, call it something else, but you are just living out what already occurred. So if you decide to shout out to the world "Mary had a little lamb!!!" 3 times fast, as loud as you can while inverted - well, that is exactly what happened in the timeline that you lived through.

@@baronang2249 but if it happened in the future that means his past self got him there alive, and so the future happened, and the deep future events are like the past for the protagonist who is traveling back in time, so what’s happened happened in the past present and future, and he only goes through a turnstile if he sees himself come out the other side, which means the future isn’t set (no matter what POV he’s looking at it from).
