I always thought it was pronounced Ten-Jen. You wouldnt pronounce Gen as 'genne' it would be as in 'Generations' Did the original Atari guys confirm it is pronounced wrong?

Tengen was a subsidiary of Atari Games, which was folded into Time Warner Interactive in the early 90's. I would imagine they were able to use the name Tengen because they went with Tengen Games and not Tengen. Actually pretty genius. Too bad the cartridge isn't in the form of the classic unlicensed black carts, but cool game.

We actually own the name outright! The "Tengen" name had been legally abandoned for almost thirty years, so we applied for the trademark with the USPTO and began using it. We can use it with or without "Games," it just allows us to differentiate ourselves slightly from the original Tengen Inc.

Tengen, that does go back a ways. I watched the documentary about the Tengen story. Specifically the battle between Tengen and Nintendo and the NES lockout chip, wild story.
