I love Japanese.myth. When I lived in Japan, there was a story of an old tree located on Atsugi Air base which was said to be protected by some supernatural force. Everyone who had tried to chop it down died in the act.
Where is my autistic son, Dimebag Drake? I am Little Good Daddy to another a little Dr.Stephen Hawkins(artistic), and then, there is their big brother, my Sid Viscious.
Tengu are my favorite yokai as they are associated with pride and arrogance but also with wisdom and spirituality. As they are also revered as small deities or gods.
You are the only other person I've heard with the same exact accent as George Takei! I got nostalgic for the Star Trek reruns I watched as a kid. Great video. Cheers!
It's not just that in fact the ninjas in Naruto more closely ressemble the mythical Tengu than real life ninjas powerscale wise. Real life ninjas try to draw into one of the tengu's abilities of bejng stealthy but the Ninjas of Naruto are more closely emulate all their abilities. It's also no coincidence that the place where the Tengu live is called Konohagakure.
Hi, this is the narrator. For Chinese, I've studied Mandarin two years (and am continuing studying). For Japanese, it really just comes from mimicking what I hear from anime and my Japanese friends. Appreciate the comment!
start it then, years ago I wrote a book of myth and ritual based on the celestial bodies in the sirius star system. then lost it moving to another house. good luck
Brooo!! I’m actually drawing a portrait of King Sojobo! And had no clue there were different types of tengu!! 👺 Truly Fascinating!! Thank you for this😊😁🤌🏽👍🏽
9th year, Spring, and month, 23rd day. A great star floated from East to West, and there was a noise like that of thunder. The people of that day said that it was the sound of the falling star. Others said that it was earth-thunder. Hereupon the Buddhist Priest Bin said:-"It is not the falling star, but the Celestial Dog, the sound of whose barking is like thunder." - 720 AD
Interesting video! Recently I've been to Kurama Mount near Kyoto. This place is linked to Tengu and it is actually a very nice place to visit if you are interested in Tengu 👺
I remeber in the mighty morphin power rangers movie they had Tengu/Tenga warriors. I wonder if they drew inspiration from Japanese Mythology. They worked for Ivan Ooze and looked like Crow/bird people
They also carried around a 'tora' scroll. They were fierce warriors, and they often tried to rescue others from idolatry. Sounds like master kabbalists to me.
Sojobo. I remember back in the day it was said that the Uchihas from Naruto series were descendants of Sojobo the Tengu king. That was before we knew about Indra Otsutsuki.
What about the tengu in 44 Rohan or whatever that movie was named. They took orphan children and trained them in their abilities and also made them monks. Is there something true in that depictation in the movie?
I think you meant 47 Ronin. (笑) That movie was INSPIRED by a historical incident, but there was NO Tengu involved. They just put one into the story for fun, that's all. (If you are interested in the incident, you can check Akou-Jiken 赤穂事件 or Chuushin-gura 忠臣蔵. But, remind you, both that movie and the original story are fantasized or glorified heavily.)
Given their origin in the Chinese “Tiangou/Heavenly Dog,” It seems that these Youkai, along with the more controversial Inu no Gami, helped inspire Rumiko Takahashi’s character Inuyasha.
Today, I went to bed and started to have vision like Im flying above a river.."Im a Tengu" this was on my mind. And somehow I know it has something to do with japanese culture. So I google Tengu. Didnt even know this term actually exists
I have read that the origin of the Tengu myth is debated. It is not established as coming from China. Some scholars believe it is purely Japanese while others believe the myth of the Tengu may be an amalgamation of Japanese mythology and Chinese mythology, but no serious scholar has established the they come from China exclusively.
So who gave japanese the knowledge of swordsmanship, which they used to found the first ryuha, it is said by Musashi Sensei that its taught by the gods ? if I understand it correctly a tengu is not a god, but a descendant of the god Izanagi .
