I decided to head up into the mountains in search of colder water. This summer has been brutal already on the trout so I wanted to find a cold water haven. I hiked out into the gorge with my tenkara rod in hand in search of some native and wild brook trout. When I discovered the stream, it was tiny and low which presented even more of a challenge. I ended up catching a few beautiful brook trout and had a great morning out on the mountain. Thanks for watching, if you enjoyed this video please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for more videos!

Did the same thing last week in the mountains of East Tennessee. Water temperatures were around 62 in the stream I was fishing. Thanks for the video!

Awesome video buddy! I’ve never tried tenkara fishing but looks fun blue lining. Them mountain streams are so much fun to fish! I’m more of a big brown type of guy, but I always love once in awhile going after them native brookies! So aggressive and can put up massive numbers! Keep up the great work and tight lines as always!!💯🎣💦

This looks a little too low of elevation for this small of brookies (often called speckled in the South). While there's plenty of moss, there are not that many laurels, and the water is pretty discolored though it's been low. It looks about 1,500 feet elevation? While this is marginal for brookies, they usually get much larger in this type of water. More nutrients for forage. More pristine, colder water has less nutrients, and thus less food for brookies, so they become stunted. Brookies in mile high branches in the Smokies can average 4 inches. Overfishing may explain the smaller size fish here. If this is over 2,000 ft, then it must have sustained a lot of disturbance and foot traffic. Usually, the lower stream elevation, which is usually more productive, has usually been supplanted by rainbow and brown.

Do you feel that length of Tenkara rod is good for PA small blue lines like you fished today... or do you wish it was a little shorter. I’m looking at Tenkara rods for mounting brookies. This one is on my short list.. the Sierra.

Juan Veruete Fishing To be honest I used to wish it was shorter but now I like the length for stealth. Also since it is telescopic so I can always break it down when walking through brush. I would recommend a rod that can be fixed at multiple lengths for you to try first so you can see what you like.
