because it's unprofessional and looks awkward, as long as it doesn't hit you right in the face or crotch you're good, it's not a big deal

often you don't expect to be hit, that's the thing. I watched a friend get hit because at the last second the player on his end didn't return the serve so he had basically no time to move, just like the last ballkid. You're not allowed to move during a point as well so you gotta be careful to make sure you don't cause a hinderance call which as well as annoying the players, will get you told off by court officials and/or the ballkid supervisors

I do not think the ball kids do

The ball kids do at my home tournament (ASB Classic) but the line judges are volunteers I think. I'm sure it differs from place to place

I'm a ball kid for BNP Paribas and we don't get paid, at least not in slams or masters 1000s.

I wasn’t at Eastbourne but I got the kit and fancy trainers for free

you usually don't need protective equipment if you're paying attention. the reason some people don't move their hands to block it is simply because you don't have enough time to even try or you're expecting a player to return the ball and by the time they miss it's too late

@@thelonelyegg3025 You usually don't need protective equipment in baseball, too... but when you do you have it, you know: to protect you... ball boys just don't have it at all. By the way: there's no way to "pay attention" to a 200 km/h tennis ball.

@@Antawnyoo dude I was a ballkid for 6 years, ballkids are trained to react really quickly and it's not that often that you'll get a 200kmph ball heading straight at your face with absolutely no warning. In my entire time as a ballkid I was only hit twice by serves because they usually don't go that far out on the court or the returner at least gets enough racquet on the ball to make it bounce away. When ballkids get hit they're usually slow, dead balls. Kids in these videos are the exception and that's why they're in the video to begin with
