I mean, Andy won Wimbledon twice and got Olympic gold twice, some of those happening in the same season. I think he's the only one outside the Big 3 to be seeded in 1st year end between 2004 and 2021. He was in with a real shout of making it Big 4
@smarthkaul3981
@smarthkaul3981 3 месяца назад
laughable is you trying to make it a "UK" thing, from 2008-2016 there was a big 4 and it referred to the 4 people who always made it the last 4 and finals
@dylanwyatt-brown3624
@dylanwyatt-brown3624 3 месяца назад
@@smarthkaul3981don't try to explain to stupid Andy was no 1 for 41 weeks during that era no one else came close to consistently challenging the other 3 and btw the big 4 was a term because those 4 were always at the business end of tournaments for a decade so that's why that term was created in the first place.

What could have been of Djokovic without ATP/ITF, Media and crowds against him all of his career, without the covid idiocy (discounting weeks at N ° 1 from him while freezing the rankings with him at the top spot in 2020, banning him of multiple majors and masters between 2020 and 2022) or without his gluten intolerance and asthma, both conditions which caused injuries, lack of breath, unhealthy fitness and, hence, retirements from some matches in his younger years... what kind of freaking BEAST would we all be talking about if he treated those conditions earlier in his career, or better, if he never had those hurdles...
@jwt-nu3ei
@jwt-nu3ei 4 месяца назад
You could do the 'ifs' for all 3. Federer - "what if he was 5 years younger", Nadal - "what if his body had held up for another 5 years", Djokovic - "what if covid hadn't happened". You could even ask "what IF a player the calibre of a 24 y/o Djokovic / Federer / Nadal joined the tour in 2018" or "what if Murray didn't fuck up his off season when he finally became world number 1" (does Federer still have his resurgence in 2018?). etc. All hypotheticals. I would say, on your point, there'd be a question of motivation.

@tennisfordummies
@tennisfordummies 4 месяца назад
Hi, thanks for your feedback. I have never felt Andy was disrespected- at least not by his pairs or journalists, nor specifically in public opinion, but maybe your experience is different. They called a "Big 4" because Andy, in spite of only having 3 slams, reached lots of finals. However ultimately his achievements are objectively quite far from what the Big 3 achieved. Still this doesn't cease to make him an absolute legend of the game and a model of abnegation and passion for the sport. Along with a great advocate of women tennis and amazing punch liner :D

Great video, but to a tennis newbie it may seem that Nadal is an animal even though he is one of the most humble and kind tennis player off court. Let's also not forget that the Big 3 have done a lot of philanthropic work. They have contributed to the sport both on and off court. Hence, why they are loved so much. They are also very down to earth and just plain likeable.
@jadr3123
@jadr3123 4 месяца назад
You are so true about Nadal, the video praise his achievements on court, but not mention his fabulous sportmanship, in the same way as Roger. On the other hand, the fabulous player Novak is not exactly as likeable and has more haters than the others members of this select group.
@tennisfordummies
@tennisfordummies 4 месяца назад
Thanks, absolutely, Nadal is indeed a very different player on and off the court, and an absolute role model in many ways, sportsmanship being on top of the list- this video is of course is an ironic simplification. Loved that next gen bit lol...first it was Dimitrov's generation, then there were Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev...and now there's Alcaraz and Sinner. Before 2023 Nadal and Djokovic were still killing their competition. Djokovic still won the 2 slams in 2023 and if we're being completely honest if not for injuries...Rafa would still be there besides Djokovic. Even Federer...he went through a really serious knee injury. Before that he had a superb 2019 season. He was still reaching finals and sfs. Back in 2021 Rafa was asked if the tennis scene has changed and he said "you know...Novak who is from my generation still won 3 out of 4 slams and reached the final of the other slam. So...not really" 😂. Nadal himself won 2 in 2022 and Novak won 2. It's not that their skills have faded...but its the injuries they cant avoid. That being said, Alacaraz and Sinner truly show hope...hope their careers won't be cut short by injuries tho. But as mentioned, Djoker is still there like the T1000. More power to him and I hope he gets that Olympic gold. As for Rafa, hope he goes out fighting in his final season.
