Sometimes when a top player is so superior to the person across the net from them, we as fans almost completely expect the top player to win. But sometimes, in those rare cases, the underdog ends up taking the tennis world by storm and defeats the higher ranked player. In these 10 matches, we are taking about how they are the greatest upsets of all time.

I still remember the match between Istomin and Djokovic. One of the best matches in the career of Denis

I remember that match, Chang was seriously cramping and did made some unusual shots that threw Lendl off his game. It's probably my most memorable match of all time. He later beat Stefan Edberg in the final and won his only Grand Slam tournament. Having said that, I think Soderling beating Nadal was probably a bigger upset. Most of the other upsets were on grass, and given grass takes some getting used to some of the upsets came from players that had to qualify.

Only Chang and kraijeck became ultimately champions of that year. And kraijeck is not an unknown player in 1996. He is 17th seeded player in 96 wimbledon and he reached Australian open semifnal in 92 & French open semifnal in 93.

Richard Krajicek was not and never was not and never was an unknown player. One of the best servers in modern history and definitely one of the most talented players to come out of The Netherlands. His career was unfortunately plagued by injury and he had already made it to the Australian Open semifinals in 1992 but had to withdraw due to a nasty shoulder injury. He had also made it to the Italian Open in 1996 losing to Muster so he was no slouch on the red clay.

I'm going back a long way because I'm old but for me, the biggest upset I can remember was Boris Becker losing in the 2nd round in 1987 at Wimbledon to Peter Doohan. Although this video has reminded me of hewitt's loss to karlovic in 2003 but I think Becker's loss was even bigger, cos at the time Boris was considered almost unbeatable on grass!

No 1 - Soderling vs Nadal, 2009 USO No 2 - Istomin vs Djokovic, 2017 AO No 3 - Karlovic vs Hewitt, 2003 WIM These are 3 biggest upsets by far. Some Honorouble mentions: Zverev vs Murray , 2017 AO Yzaga vs Sampras , 1994 USO Horna vs Federer , 2003 RG
@ErikCB912

Horna beating Federer at RG 03 was not an upset. Federer hadn’t even won his first major yet and he didn’t become competitive on clay until 2005.

The Krajicek win was a minor upset considering how he played throughout Wimbledon '96. European tv viewers could not watch the Söderling upset for Eurosport showed cycling and a recorded women hockey match instead. I am still angry about that.

@@texasfan58 yeah but all that with an injury. Sometimes it affected him more, sometimes less. Most players always play with some kind of an injury. We just don't know it everytime because they don't want to give it away to their opponents. Up until wimbledon he only had 2 losses and 1 retirment, after wimbledon... well random to mid players losses and another retirment. It only got worse from there and we all remember 2017...
@14DANESSJ
@14DANESSJ 11 месяцев назад
@@strangerinthedark5707 I don't think that loss in particular was caused by the elbow injury. Otherwise every loss can be excused due to some nagging issue. Just like you said, most players always play with some kind of an injury. Nadal has been inured since he was born (Mueller-Weiss syndrome), and Federer had back issues since 2013 and knee issues since 2016.

@@Nicky_Coolno, it’s fine right where it is. Federer was terrible in 2013. If he was going to lose early at Wimbledon one year, it was going to be that year. Sure it’s a little shocking to see him lose in the second round, but many other upsets have been much more shocking than that.

RG 2009, Soderling was top 20 and play unbelievable offensive tennis in this RG (by the way he reach the final the next year beating Federer as well). Also, he had nothing to lose against Nadal and always thought he could win. This is not a big shoke, everybody can lose against good player once. Fed lose to Tsonga at wimbledon, he was leading 2 sets 0 and still lose. This is more a shoke. Nadal lose in wimbledon to Dustin Brown. In this vidéo there are many "shoke" in wimbledon, just because this is a very fast court and anything can happen against big serveurs like Karlovic, Querray...

Soderling vs Nadal was the biggest upset in sports history, Federer couldn’t beat the man in Paris, Djokovic could when they were older and after so many tries, and no one else for 2 decades could accomplish that, Soderling was definitely not a player of this magnitude and yet achieved the impossible
