I love how Sonny stays up front while the trombone is playing still encouraging and animated instead of slinking off to the back of the stage and ignoring the other soloists.
It has been a major stroke of good fortune for me that I was able to hear Sonny Rollins play. If ever someone found the right career for himself, it was Mr Rollins.
I used to go with Peter Mokonotela to his band practice in Jhb and Ray Phiri used to practice in the next room......late 80s early 90s wow those were the days of music, love, no cell phones just love and live bands the taxis in Soweto those days used to play oh heavenly music!!!!
Fantastico SONNY lunga vita a SONNY, che energia, che umanità che AMORE e che saggezza, grazie SONNY. Grazie papa okina for post this amazing document, Dōmo arigatōgozaimashita
The slide trombonist is a much better musician than I will ever be, but what happened to him? He seemed to find his own key. Timing was great, tonality was askew. When you play outside you have to find your boundaries. My opinion-- he had a different map than the rest of the band.
@@Dang... Dan, just my opinion. You might have a better ear than I do. S. Trombonist nails the head. Everything else is a matter of opinion. Listen to the keys. He gets it. Not too many "can't find my way" accidental accidents and trills. He uses them only after building the base/tonal center. Upper extensions are like butter. As for Sonny, he is the man. I would aspire to carry his luggage.
