The fact that you can sound so much like his alto on tenor is unbelievable. Not only do you sound a lot like an alto player on it but you sound like bartley so big props.
This is so completely true. It's got that sparkyness of the alto that allows it to pop, and @jomajorsax makes the tenor pop. Hope we can get a full transcription sometime!
Hi! Thanks for that compliment on intonation. Of course, Bartley is playing alto, and doing just amazing things with the pitch of notes - it feels great that you think I'm doing ok playing in tune with him!
Wow, really nice playing! Really impressed with how close you sound while being on tenor! Is there any chance you would be able to throw together some sheet music?
Hi! Thanks for the kind words. I'm just posting my progress as a player, and don't write down my transcriptions (just memorized, sometimes taken into all the keys). That said, Sharp Eleven does a great job with transcriptions, here is his transcription of After You've Gone. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sNuvPC8_XsI.html
Hi Xavier, thanks for your compliments. This transcription took a lot of work for sure. Bartley is a great player and able to play in very different styles- like his work with Jon Batiste.
@@JoMajorSaxI originally found him from his side passion project "J-Music Ensemble where him and a group do jazz covers of beloved video game music. Cool to see him getting recognition in the traditional Jazz world too! :) If you wanna see a different side of his playing try maybe like... "Simple and Clean" by then. So many are great, but that was a fun lively pop/jazz tune :).
@@JoMajorSax I only saw an old video of him playing on the Late Show with Colbert and Batiste once, didnt know he played outside of that, cool! They def seem like they'd gel well together socially, cool to see they also were compatible musically! :)
Hi Jamie! Thx for the compliments! Just love this solo, and was going to do this on alto, but thought …. Maybe try this on tenor? About five zillion practice hours later…. 😮
Hey man this sounds AMAZING! Is there anywhere I can get the transcription because I would looove to be able to play this. I’m not the best at transcribing myself , that’s fore sure.
Hi Joe, sorry I just learn them but never write them down. If you search, you will find sharp eleven has a very clean written transcription. Good luck and thanks for listening!
No, although I have done that for some of my transcription work. If the logic files are still intact I could certainly create a tenor only video, with no other instruments. Would this be of interest to you?
Hi Felix! I hope you are well. First, you don't suck at transcribing, it is just a hard thing that takes a long time. I'm sorry, but I don't personally write down transcriptions, really doing it more to develop the link between my ears and my fingers. A few thoughts - Chad LB has a nice video discussing a good set of solos to start the transcribing journey if you want to give your ear some practice. If you are looking for good fun with Mr. Bartley, Sharp Eleven has a nice written version. Finally, if you like Bartley sound, but would like to take a look at something a little easier to hear, I would suggest you look at Patrick's work on PRINCE with Jon Batiste. Here is me playing with Bartley on that one...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-taMRmmt3_Yg.html
