Nice one, Lenny, and beautifully executed. This technique is ideal for attackers who come at you at speed like a bull at a gate. I can see it requires perfect timing to get it right, though, and you have to be deliberate in your action from beginning to end. Thank you for being so generous with your teaching - I learned a lot.

Great video Lenny Sensei. Coming from a traditional Ju Jutsu/Karate background i can testify that this techniques work very well on the street. Most of the dudes who pick fights downtown on a saturday night are most likely untrained duchebags and not MMA Pros. Professional fighters are way to composed and chill to engage in useless pub brawls. And if they do chances are pretty good that they are just as drunk as you are, so the odds would be even.

Another EXCELLENT, WELL DEMONSTRATED, INFORMATIVE, AND PRACTICAL VIDEO. My "grand sensei" is Sheehan RUSS ROGG, founder of the SHENDO GOJU RYU SYSTEM. Many of our techniques clearly have there roots in Aikido/Jiu jitsu. As a disabled person I can't do more of the "athletic/power techniques that I was once able so it's all about viable, practical technique. This is all about leverage, body position and as it has been described as "being like air" and requiring minimal strength, that being said I have already begun to show my daughter some of the basic techniques for grabs, pushes, holds, and typical mugging scenarios that she can grasp and apply effectively on a much larger and stronger opponent. We also share in philosophy of basically "kill or be killed" in that we END the combat engagement as quickly and as PERMANENTLY as possible. As you mentioned you don't train to courteously throw your attacker out and give them another chance to attack you. You really give an awesome breakdown that can be successfully followed and applied. Much respect and appreciation for your instruction...Arigatou Sensei...OSS!!

Good presentation N.B. Within traditional aikido techniques are practiced similar to the ones showed plus others, That depends on the school, And yes you learn how to throw away in iriminage and kotegaechi etc… as basic techniques (how to rotate well your hips plus other reasons) Within henka waza the variations of applying the techniques includes throwing right in front of you where the uke most of the times don’t have the time to initiate his yoko ukemi, similar to the techniques showed in the video but with more aggressiveness Keep up the good work

Segal was the ultimate TenShin Aikido machine in his prime. That shit works. I'm not an Aikido practitioner. I just watched Segal demonstrate a few moves and rehearsed them in my mind. I used the technique once in an attack situation and watched the attacker do a cartwheel in midair and land on his back. That ended the attack. I don't know if the guy ever figured out what had happened. He laid on his back for a few minutes because the wind was knocked out of him.

Long time fan here. I see you're still on that this isn't MMA stuff. Tell people this is just like any other art. It's like a dance. MMA is like two different people trying to dance two different styles of art. Most don't realize this art is intended for when someone is committed to hurt you in one shot. MMA is mostly jabs that are intended to feel a person up and then break him down. That's two different people with very high skills in each art of fighting. In this case the most conditioned and skilled fighter wins. Thanks again for the lessons. These kinds of seminars have saved my life murmurs times. Keep up the good work. And please stop responding to hate mail. It's not good for you

Excellent Video. Reversals on hand control and locks would be interesting to see how you would implement that into your Combat Offensive Tactics. Plus In Real World situations and altercations, sometimes even the martial artist has poor form or position at the start of the altercation. Ways and fundamental understandings that in the real world martial artist do things just like everybody else such as drink at a bar, and they also become complacent at times in their lives. Understanding the art of war in todays society is instrumental in mindset as well as development and actions. Just food for thought mate. Love your Instruction and I can tell you care about your students.

I can see this being effective at intercepting a haymaker or shove. Like the cutting arm neutralizes the attacker's punch while you slip in with Nodotsukiage or a palm strike to the chin. Plow him over and make the pavement his new best friend. As for the MMA fanboys, even trained fighters are subject to physics and don't always attack intelligently. In fact, most don't at all because they're not in the zone. There's a fair bit of mental preparation to going into the ring, and you don't have that luxury on the street when someone surprises you. Not to mention there's no ref to break it up, so you're in REAL danger. It's a whole different ballgame.

The audio on this video is kind of rattly and scratchy and you need to slow down your explanation of this technique. Did you ever study with Arikawa Sensei? He was quite fond of this type of technique. Sometimes you want to throw the bad guys out and into their buddies and out of your way. Sometimes you want to “plant” them straight down, which will scare their buddies off. But don’t trip over the bad guy you’ve just “planted.”
