This physics video tutorial explains how to solve tension force problems. It explains how to calculate the tension force in a rope for a object descending with a downward acceleration using newton's laws of motion. it also discusses how to use free body diagrams and the weight force to calculate the tension force in two ropes at different angles. There's another tension force physics problem that asks you to calculate the tension in two cables / ropes where one rope is in the horizontal direction and the second rope is at an angle.

At least for me, it's all in being able to replay the video and go back if you didn't understand the first time.

I Know EXACTLY why. The reason why online learning seems more effective than traditional classes is because, in school or college, we often find ourselves goofing around with our peers, being too shy or scared to ask back questions or any of our doubts, the lack of revisions after classes, and lacking the necessary attention span. If you start disliking a teacher, your brain just automatically shuts itself up and doesn't bother listening to him/her which creates an endless cycle where you struggle to grasp even basic concepts, despite the teacher's decent lecture. On the other hand, online learning fosters a greater willingness to learn. When you come home and realize there's an upcoming exam, the urgency kicks in. A quick RU-vid search leads you to reliable channels teaching the same concepts taught in school. The key difference lies in the pre-planned and organized nature of online lectures. They are shorter, concise, and to the point. Moreover, your attentiveness is heightened because you know this is your last resort. Your brain becomes more capable of comprehending topics that seemed challenging during in-person classes due to a lack of concentration or fatigue. I am pretty sure, people may find "Organic Chemistry Tutor's" teachings to be more challenging to learn and comprehend at a live-irl-class than on RU-vid. So, the moral of the story is that you should always rely on yourself, in this case, through self-study with a guide, rather than depending solely on others. Actively participating in your own learning allows you to grasp more information. In school, there's often a lack of interest, making it challenging to absorb the material effectively.

In my school they just taught me the formula of tension force which is T = M(g+a) but they never taught me how it was interacting with y axis.. and like Sum-of-F(y) or those. Actually formula just enables us to do maths tht are capable of solving with just that formula. If u know one formula then you can do just one type of math. But we need to learn the root of it. The basis of it. Thanks to your teaching I can understand formulas better and I dont have waste my energy in memorizing them. I can just create my own favourable formula if I have to. Thanks a lot. You deserve a lot more recognition.

at 2:24 , shouldn't we use -9.8 as acceleration because gravity acts downwards and we are taking the upwards direction as positive?
@wkmars
@wkmars 7 месяцев назад
Late answer, but here's the explanation: It's because on 0:57 he set the sum of the forces to be ΣF = T - W, so he already put the minus sign here on the weight force where gravity is. You could set it to be ΣF = T + W, so it would be ΣF = T + (50 * (-9.8))N, as adding a negative number is the same as subtracting, the result would be the same.
@Areejfz
@Areejfz 2 года назад
9.8 is a downward acceleration so it must be -9.8 and because of this we calculate 2.3 - 9.8 which is equal to 5.5 and then multiply it by 50 and that is equal to 275
@sambamdalamb9770
@sambamdalamb9770 Год назад
yes i was thinking that too. It confused me to get 275 for the tension because then the box would not be lifted. I don't understand why he added the accelerations together for 1a and then subtracted the accelerations for 1b if both the accelerations in b are going in the same direction ?
@DavisSoloAlungi
@DavisSoloAlungi 2 месяца назад
The acceleration is 9.8 due to gravity. Upward acceleration will be -9.8 because it is going against the gravity.

Hello sir, thank you for your videos, it's enlightening ! I have a problem rolling in my mind and I'd love to bounce it off to someone like you. Let's say I have 500kg suspended to a rope at 3m high. I'd like to know what resistance, force or tension (i'm not sure) it would take to slow its fall to a crawl like 3m/10 hour. If you have the time to answer this little problem i have, i'd be very happy ! Thank you again sir !
@NZC_Meow

Assuming the block starts from rest (u=0), there's no air resistance. m = 500 kg s = 3m v = 3m/10hr s = vt t = s/v = 3 × 10/3 = 36000 s s= ut + at² a = s/t² = 3/36000² m/s² F = ma = 500 × 3/36000² (Downward force needs to be 500 × 3/36000² N) W = mg = 500 × 10 = 500 × 3/36000² -Fnet = T - W T = -Fnet + W = -500 × 3/36000² + 5000 N If you pull the block with this force, you'll get your desired result.
