I would spend a night in any tent. Rain or shine. Your content helps people get out and try on a budget. That’s the point!! You don’t need to spend a fortune. 🙌

Of course you would I spent 24hrs in torrential rain in a £30 Argos tent in scotland and got about 3 drops of water and not even close to collapsing!

It never ceases to amaze me that people assume that everyone is loaded with money when they first go camping and can afford a three figure tent, sleeping bag and all of the toys. My first tent was £29.99 from famous army stores, and I paid for that from my paper round over a few weeks, and bought a hexi stove, mess tins and a sleeping bag that cost me £40 from an army surplus store. You have got to start somewhere no matter what you are doing. Keep doing the videos mate, thanks for posting

I do not understand why anyone would complain about your videos of low-cost kit. I mean, if they don't like the video, stop watching, delete, and unsubscribe! Personally I find these videos very useful when I'm thinking about camping kit. Keep going, Dan!

This is just my opinion but this starter kit is just fine if you want to get out and enjoy yourself. The only thing I would add is a tarp to cover the tent as a rain fly as the door has no protection from rain. Carry on Dan ! Florida, USA

This tent is in the style we had years ago: ours were made of sturdier material and cost more. Wind, rain, and condensation were problems but some shelter was better than none. This one beats a tarp in that it has a bug screen. The butane stove is champion: that and your little lamp should be in the home for power outage backup. We have had the like of them for years.

Excellent video, it gave me a good laugh. For a mid range tent have a look at the Slumit cub 2, it’s a pull up exoskeleton tent. Easy to put up, weather proof, plenty of room, there are videos on my channel of when I was using one.

Nice to see these cheap tents being used, always have a look at them and wonder! Definitely a Kiddy one though. Getting mid range stuff would give a better experience for first timers and if they don’t like it sell on EBay. Great vid, had a laugh. Stay safe Dan atb 👍🦊

Good camp Dan. 👍 Nothing wrong with that tent, as long as it's used in the right circumstances (although it appeared a little short for you). It's just a cheap fair weather tent, and if it gets you out (even in the back garden) then it's done its job. I'd imagine some proofing, and going over all the seams etc, could improve the overall weatherproofing, although you wouldn't want to take it up a mountain, or stick it out in a storm. Your videos on budget camping are helpful, and demonstrate that you don't have to spend a fortune to get started. You survived and lived to tell the tale lol. 😉

Your a smashing fella, keep doing what your doing my friend. My wife and i have a caravan, but decided to break out the tent. We got a two person tent by decathlon for only £10 and unused. We also got two of those lanterns brand new and about £16. Sleeping bags are 3/4 seasons and the super slim sleeping mats with built in self inflation. Great video.

I have that tent. It is a youth tent. It was $30us...it is the silver and blue fabric which is thicker and blocks light. I live in the Appalachians and take it out for three nights. It is fine. I sleep diagonal....6' 4" It is OK at 8C. It somewhat holds your body heat in (don't know if the green transparent would). Hot in summer unless you line up the door with a breeze. I don't get much moisture due to that skylight mesh. 2lb 4oz or about 1kg. Pitch it anywhere. Easy carry. Super light. Fits in my motorcycle easily. I have a matching 5'x6' tarp (same material) $5 i pitch above the door if it rains. Oh it doesn't leak...except the door. That surprises me. I bought it for a one nighter from a hardware store when it was going to drop low and i wanted just a windbreak. I got to like it. It's probably seen a dozen nights over two years. No tears, no breaks. My pocket stove was $8. My cook kit was $10. A butane can was $5. I use a $3 used yoga pad and a used mummy bag $3 i laundered. $60ish total.

people with kit really enter competitions to possibly win starter kits? I found your channel because im trying to find a cheap way to spend some time with my 3 year old outdoors and not in front of a screen! Added bonus that his mother would never camp makes it even more a father and son adventure! Hope you keep these videos up, with everything that is happening at the moment trying to buy anything deemed not essential is difficult but knowing that when I do get the rare bit of spare cash the boy and I cant start looking at getting outdoors is encouraging, even if its only in his grandparents garden for the night. Its a start!

I think if you took the same money, you might get a better quality tent used, and the same budget stove and the like. I think your shelter is much more important-and sleep system. I’d spend the majority of my money there. I have a similar stove and I still use it all the time. Thank you for helping encourage folks to get outside.

I think one advantage of the home bargains haul though is that it's much easier for people who don't drive (and people who are really short of money are more likely not to have a car available than the general population). Heck, even if you do drive you've got to figure in fuel money, and if you can get people to post things to you you've got postage and packaging costs and PayPal fees. It can add up really quickly. I bought a rucksack for £5 a few days ago, but it cost me £12 in fuel. Didn't mind because I was planning a long walk anyway, so I just went to that area. But you could argue that "£5" rucksack cost me £17.

Great job Dan! I think if it were me, I would spend more on the tent and forego the sleeping bag and bring some blankets from home. I think that tent is super scary and in the end a waste. Even if you never camp again it will end up in the garbage. A little more money on a decent tent and you could sell it all as a package and make some money back if you don't like it.

Cracking video again Dan these videos are superb for showing what you can alright spend a bit more on the tent ⛺ but the rest of the gear would be fine to start off with .The stove is spot on to have if you have a kid with you low centre of gravity means it don't tip easily and big base for pot to sit on means more stability less chance of it tipping over .I don't have a tent or much of that end of the game but have stoves to use on days out got one of yours and a cracking stove it is but if I have the young ones out I use the same one as that as they are safer using it than the twig or sit on top gas ones just my two penny worth 😉 but if the time comes they want a tent I know who I will come to for advice cheers bud 👍

My first serious tent was a single skin swear box called an "ultimate U2". Came in at three pounds and managed to keep the worst of the weather off of me. Used it for a few years on long distance hikes, festivals and the like. Then the condensation got the better of me and I traded up for a tent with an inner. Have seen a tarp witha beak and an inner for under £100 so would make a good start.

I think Dan the risk with such a cheap tent is it could put first time campers off wild camping because it is too short to get a good night's sleep. Maybe set a limit that it must be say at least 2 metres long to determine a realistic budget for adults. The rest of the gear looked fine but the budget maybe should include a rucksack. I've found pop-up tents are easy to set up but difficult to get back into the bag! You didn't show this stage on your pop-up tent video which I would have loved to see. Re the food the chunky soups are very nourishing and cheap compared to some of the dehydrated meals and ideal on a limited budget. Well done for trying the very cheap set-ups and you've clearly set out the disadvantages. Regards Keith

We all have to start some where. I personally have cheap stuff and some high end gear. But I started with budget gear and have upgraded some of my gear since. But I still use cheap things too. Why buy expencive things if you are happy with cheap gear. My latest upgrade was my sleeping pad. Sea to summit self inflating and 7,5 cm thick 4 season pad I think. But that was also on sale. If you have a chance, borrow gear from friends first before buying. Maybe it is what you want to buy for your self later. I've done that. It works 😀

Another fun video, even if these setup get kids active and and outside in the back garden they are worth the money. As for the stove, yep not the most powerful and certainly bulky but camping with kids in tow, they are at least very stable and not likely to fall over. As for future videos what about trying the Trekking Dome Tent, 2 person version MT900 from Decathlon (the one with 2 doors & storage areas + ground sheet wings) (also made in a 1 person style), I don't think you have reviewed much Decathlon stuff before?
