Teo Repel (1916-2007) taught choral music at John Oliver High School for 25 years (195-1980). During these years his choirs were among the most prominent in Vancouver and Canada. In 1961 the John Oliver Senior Mixed Choir was awarded the George Matheson Trophy for the best amateur choir in Canada. In 1971, the choir was presented the BC Centennial Award by Queen Elizabeth II for the best amateur choir in British Columbia. In 1970 the John Oliver Brahms (girls') choir finished second in the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod in Wales. Teo Repel died on June 22, 2007, having inspired hundreds of John Oliver music students to develop their choral and singing skills.
