Teradek VidiU Firmware Update Brings Better YouTube Live Integration

The Teradek VidiU is an excellent streaming device but RU-vid Live integration was a little more complicated than other services.
Teradek recently issued a firmware update that dramatically improves the way the device interacts with RU-vid.
Now you just need to set up the RU-vid Live event, and the VidiU will allow you to choose the event from its OLED display or web interface. There's no computer intervention necessary beyond the initial event setup.

I would be interested in seeing you pick up a Livestream Broadcaster, and compare the two units. I see the Livestream is in the $470 zone, but I'm guessing there is a reason for that (it's been out for a few years). On paper, the two systems look similar.

I just bought the BlackMagicProductions UltraStudio Express and have been very impressed by it. It only needs a Thunderbolt connection and takes almost any video input - SDI, HDMI, component, and composite.

Scott Anderson The UltraStudio is a great device. I was considering it, but I think I'm looking for something a little more flexible (not that the BM UltraStudio Express isn't flexible) upstream from the HDMI/SDI to web conversion. Specifically, I'm looking to build a "mobile live production studio" of sorts so that I can switch between 2-3 cameras, a computer input (most likely PPT), and ~4 mics to RU-vid live (google hangouts, etc.). Oh, and it needs to basically be a one man band kind of configuration. If I could offload the web streaming to this device, that frees up my computer to manage the video/audio mixer (I have my eye on a BlackMagic ATEM 1 M/E Production Studio 4K switcher) but it's starting to get more expensive as the pipeline grows.

Lon, I have the same suspicion regarding the devices. And yes, the longer the workflow, the higher the price :-D

Hey Lon, Tnks for the info... I have the VidiU, i was streaming perfect in RU-vid, making new events from the youtube site and from the Vidiu Interface (is better from the web) But Suddenly make an reconnect issue, launch API RU-vid Error No connect, etc... I update the Firmware, and have the same problems. you know some issues about the RU-vid authentication, DNS, etc... I make a factory reset, delete the app integration from youtube and make a new and the problem still... (sorry for my english, i am from Mexico) Tnks a lot

Don't worry. i don't know what happen, but, Conect my wireless direct from provider (without the switch and speed of 200MB) dedicated, and is working... God Bless You!!!

***** Thanks Lon! We were thinking about a multi-cam + powerpoint for a small work presentation. Were thinking the Atem Me 1 for switching/mixing. We can also stream from the Atem correct? Or would we still want to get a Vidiu and run the outpout of the switcher to that? Thx

***** thanks lon, i just want to test it out before i dive into a big expense of verison wifi....i am setting up a cemera in my van to do mobile broad casting..... like a live shot from a business to promote their store

You just sold me on the VidiU. This is exactly what I have been looking for. BTW do you know of anyway that I can power this unit from a power station like a mophie unit? An hour can be a bit of a hard pill to swallow.

This is what I've been waiting for... Your previous video made this device, via RU-vid Live, look reasonably easy, but when you are a one man band (cameraman, audio, overflow, live stream) you need simplicity, and the firmware upgrade seems to address that. I'd love to see you create a "How to Host an Interactive RU-vid Live Event" where you go over the technical pre event, and the software of how to manage comments. Perhaps throw in some best practices as well. Keep up the great work!
