When I replaced my XJ rear shocks....I ended up with a half a bucket of rust chunks that showered down on me while working under here with impacts. It was literally raining rust flakes on me. I've since descaled all the rust and painted everything to save the XJ from being ruined. You have a very nice condition XJ there.

Yes. Damn good upgrade. Never have to deal with those bolts breaking when you install new shocks.

Are those Bilstein shocks installed upside down? Isn’t the rubber boot sleeve supposed to be on the topside?

Mr Automatech that’s what I thought when I got mine but they are actually designed to be run that way by bilstein

I just did mine on my jeep. I couldn't get a new rubber bushing for my shock, and it was super hot out so the bushing was expanded. Super difficult to get the metal bushing/sleeve into the upper shock rubber bushing, even with a press and white lithium lube.

Did you have to remove the metal sleeve from Bilstein's bottom rubber bushing to get the shock to slide on the vehicle's lower mount bolt?

Nice upgrade, but you have to spin the shock 90 degrees and lose the pivot angle. Now you will try to bent the bracket instead of pivot on the bolt.

Yes. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed. That's an unacceptible angle change.

Yes, I also noticed the movement of the damper is wrong, it no longer has the same axis of rotation.

where did you get the metal insert for the middle of the bushings? My bushings have no metal inserts so its just the barpin and the bushing against each other
